  1. ok, got it. sorry its been a long day. Sure who wouldn't love bigger speakers. I already finished an extensive house addition. So not adding any more rooms for speakers, unless I want to be a bachelor again..... Waiting for speaker cable to be delivered ( ordered SVS sound path ultra). using some cheap short ones for now. Just wanted something decent without spending a fortune ( another rabbit hole for sure...) Thinking that spreading out the Forte's a bit will improve the imaging. I can only go so far ( room is not that big). will experiment too on how close to the wall to place them. looking forward to testing out some more discs.
  2. Well I did end up with the Forte III's ( thanks Cory). Hooked up to Yamaha A-S801. no subwoofer. Using Oppo 103 for SACD and CD playback. I was contemplating a turntable since I recently acquired a few hundred Albums ( mostly 1970s to mid 80's in excellent condition). Although not sure I want to go down that rabbit hole just yet. Not sure if there is any break in period for these speakers but out of the box they sound great. very nice imaging and balance in the soundstage. Some discs are compressed a bit more than others and found the loudness control of the yamaha can tweak this comfortably to back it off. still moving them around a bit in my small room ( home office). so haven't decided on a permanent placement yet for the speakers. But so far I am very happy with what I am hearing. very life-like vocally. I do not plan in using these with a subwoofer and it seems from what I have heard so far I may not need too. But it depends on the source. Noticed some discs are more bass heavy than others. Played the new 50th ANNV. white album and it was just perfect. I know some mentioned the cornwalls but I think they might be a bit too much for my room, I'm sure they sound great but I think the forte III's are plenty for my needs. Besides not sure I want to lug the cornwall's up two flights of stairs!. Haven't had to turn the volume up barely over a quarter the way. doesn't take much with these speakers, thats for sure. I wanted a nice simple good sounding two channel set up and I think I found it. Still a big fan of multichannel music but now I have the best of both I think.
  3. the rc-62II for $130 wouldn't be in MA by any chance? if so then its mine posted on craigslist. probably no more than 20 hours on it.
  4. I will. there was a bit of a mix up on the speaker order so they are a bit delayed. Hopefully on their way soon. As soon as they get in and hook them up I will. I've been staring at my yamaha for two weeks now doing nothing. patience is a virtue.....
  5. I've got some forte III's on the way too. Bought a Yamaha A-S801 integrated amp in silver to pair them with. Hopefully they play well with each other. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_022AS801S/Yamaha-A-S801-Silver.html
  6. I would think so- I mean they rock for movies and have handled everything I throw at them movie watching. Of course I am running them small in a 7.2.4 set up, with dual subs. but still they are not a small speaker and with dual 8" woofers would think they should provide enough bass in two channel. Of course it would be cool to have some forte III's too. Like i said, never an easy decision in this expensive hobby we have.
  7. no love for RP280's? Interesting. I think they sound fine in the home theater setup for movies and concert videos. I have a smaller multi channel set up I use for music only with rp250's all around and they sound great I think with blu-ray audio and sacds. I have played the RP250f's in two channel also with sub. although it sounded good it was not quite at the level I wanted. looking for more impact in two channel and without using a sub. I used to own chorus and klf30's and used them in two channel so somewhere along those lines I am used to. I would think the rp280s would be close the klf30s, though not as bright. of course heard good things with forte III musically.
  8. yes I may be leaning that way. I was thinking of saving a few bucks and replacing the RP280F set up in the home theater with RF7III set up and putting the RP280 in the two channel setup. So basically it really comes down to the forte vs RP280. If not then will have to sell off the RP280 and center and pick up the forte's. decisions, decisions......
  9. I actually have an older 970 OPPO I may use for this. I also have the 103 I have been using for multichannel music. the room is not that big, thinking the RF's or the RP280's might have the advantage since they are at ear level-higher than the forte's.
  10. Basically looking to set up a good moderate two channel system ( already have a multichannel set up). Mostly cd/sacd playing. haven't picked out a cd player yet. but was looking to run the speakers with a Yamaha A-S801. For speakers I was thinking Forte III or maybe RF7 III. If not I also have a pair of RP-280F in my movie room I was thinking of using instead. any thoughts? thanks
  11. yeah it sounds pretty good. need to break them in a bit- but was playing "Beatles Love" DVDA-no complaints. Was going to go for the newer line, but I think either way I would be happy. looking forward to hearing the White album in 5.1 soon.
  12. Got a smaller setup for my home office. simple 5.1 system. mainly listening to music, blu-ray audio, SACD, DVD-Audio and CDs. Rp-250F x4 piano black and RP250C center to go along with my HSU 10" sub. I was a bit hesitant getting the piano finish- but should be fine, I'm the only one going into the room. I think they look great and the sound should be more than enough for the room. Was going to go for bookshelf but then I would have had to buy stands too. Simpler solution for me.
  13. weird. quality control issue I would think from factory. you are right to return it. I would think drilling any holes would void warranty.

    Ht seating

If the room is treated acoustically well, like the walls, carpet etc. the leather chairs shouldn't be a big issue acoustically I think. I never had any issues with this. I've seen many high end home theaters that have leather seating. But to each his own. One thing to consider is not having the back-head rest area too high. It will contribute considerably in blocking surround speakers- especially rear surrounds. Again depends on your budget and tastes. You can easily spend a fortune on seating.

    Ht seating

I don't have any experience with salamander seating. they do have some nice seating but don't think most could justify the cost compared to other options. I know there is a whole thread at AVS forum on seating. https://www.avsforum.com/forum/32-theater-room-items-accessories/ many buy from http://www.rtheaters.com. the owner roman is active on the forum there. Also https://www.htmarket.com is another site used often. I Know Costco has some nice deals certain times of the year too. I bought my fronts from them fairly cheap on sale, high quality and real leather ( bonded leather won't hold up as well). I bought my back chairs ( fusion Jives) from rtheaters. Roman is easy to deal with. guess it depends on your taste and budget. good luck.
  16. maybe check over at AVS forum. personally I don't know much about Elite but see the name a lot over there. would think you would want a tab- tensioned motorized to keep the screen tight and without wrinkles and stuff. Personally I own a fixed stewart screen. I've been very happy with it.
  17. sq.ft? or cubic ft. 10,000 sq. ft is like one massive house! if cubic ft. its still a big room. could easily go dual 15.s- even 18's. PSA, JTR I believe both make 18" subs. Now your talking much more money though.
  18. HSU makes great subs no doubt. always gets good reviews. If you are going with dual 15's you should be more than satisfied I would think. Of course the price jumps up some. really depends on your room size, location and personal preference. are you a huge bass head? some guys love it when everything in the neighborhood rattles, regardless.. Me I like a smooth, accurate, punchy, slam bass. One of the reasons I moved the subs to the side walls and went with duals. I'm sure you would be happy with either or. here is some reading material. https://www.avsforum.com/forum/113-subwoofers-bass-transducers/2973756-hsu-vtf-3-mk5-hp-vs-monoprice-monolith-12-a.html https://www.avsforum.com/forum/113-subwoofers-bass-transducers/2961040-800-900-diy-18-vs-hsu-vtf-3-mk5-vs-monolith-12-a.html
  19. true- I guess thats why the 10 and 12's have been sold out and won't be back in stock until September. They must have underestimated their popularity and didn't make enough of them. the 15's are still available though. Of course their performance speaks for itself. Takes everything you throw at them with ease. https://www.soundandvision.com/content/monoprice-monolith-12-and-15-thx-ultra-subwoofers-review
  20. Ha, it is for me ( for now-might have to tweak again if I end up getting the RF7III's).
  21. well I didn't have a lot of options for placement. had the room set up for either front left and right corner or left and right side walls. the sides give me a smoother bass response overall without sacrificing the slam. Keeps the bass punchy and accurate without any boominess. I also like having the options of plugging both ports if needed, gives me a bit more flexibility in how it sounds and performs. It is quite a task getting subwoofers to behave like we want them in our own rooms. So much tweaking. but once its done, its done!
  22. they are pretty beefy, especially for 12 inch subs. I almost went with the 15's but I'm very content with these. I was originally going to go with the SVS PB-2000s- but my curiosity got the better of me and after reading some great reviews on the Monoliths and I just had to see for myself. They didn't let me down.
  23. SUB crossover : off 80hz level : 3 o'clock phase: 0 extended mode one port plugged SVS sound path feet installed sub cables: blue jean RECEIVER YAMHA 3060: sub level at: -5 AVR settings (Options) Tone control] {bass} 3.5 (Options) Tone control] {Sub trim} 3.5 EXTRA BASS TURNED OFF monoral x 2 ROOM 3220 CFT. carpet floor base: wood framed ( room on main level of house) location: one subwoofer on each side wall about a third of the way towards front of room VERDICT: Excellent! These subs are built with HDF and weigh 98.5lbs each. Impressed with the construction and feel of these things. Packaging was very good and double boxed. Adjustment on the back of sub are pretty much straightforward. Making adjustments on my AVR was necessary to get them where I wanted them. tweaking the levels on the AVR options and sub gain made a big difference in subwoofer output. . Bass is super tight, clean and very punchy. exactly what I was looking for. Not sure how much the sound path feet contributed to this. I would not call my self a bass-head. I don't need or want everything in the room to shake and move ( it shouldn't the way I had it built). The subs performed as i was hoping they would. No chuffing no after rumble, bass starts and stops exactly when it should. These things really slam when needed with zero effort. I am sure I will still be tweaking here and there. but I can live with the results I have now for sure. curious to see after a break in period how they perform. THE BAD The sub feet that come with subwoofer are just crazy small. they seem to overbuild everything else but not the feet. not a deal breaker for sure front grill: doesn't seem to go in very easily. just be careful and line up holes and gently push into each section. again, not a deal breaker.
