  1. sure, no problem.... funny how when you tell some people what you are doing you get a rather puzzled look on their face like "yeah, okay, a home theater..?" Then when they see and hear the final product it's like "hey this is so cool"
  2. I did not do an official build thread. maybe I should have. This room was only one small part of a rather extensive addiction/renovstion so I was dealing with a lot of other aspects of the build. i suppose I could put something together. just don't want to repeat a lot of what I already discussed here. any questions let me know. hopefully I can help.
  3. thanks everyone.appreciate it. Lots of work to get this point-but finally got the picture dialed in a bit to my liking ( my first projector- so steep learning curve). But I see now what all the fuss is about having a big screen setup. just need to get back row seating now. people already wanting to come over to watch movie.
  4. so after all that I decided to go with the RP280/450C set up. I think getting them black was the right choice too. I was buying so much other gear I needed to shave off a few bucks where I could. thinking down the road I could get the RF7III's. if I wanted. Have to say I am very satisfied with these speakers. Not really the Klipsch sound I am accustomed too- but they definitely rock for Movies & music. The RS62II's work great with them and the 5800's in the ceiling. Paired them with a Yamaha A3060 and and external amp for 7.1.4. Atmos sound awesome. finally got the JVC projector and Stewart screen up. so far so good. looking forward to some movie watching now.
  5. here are a few. I also had some special order ones made for the left and right of the screen in black. hard to tell from the picture.
  6. my setup is pretty close to yours, except I am using RS-62II's for surrounds. Also using the 5800's for ceiling duty. can't speak for the Anthem, but currently using the YamahaA3060 and love it. Great for movies and music. I have an external amp hooked up for 7.1.4 setup. It sounds awesome when upmixing non-atoms material too. My room is treat too which definitely makes the room more dead quiet and the yamaha has no problem filling out the room.
  7. nice room. well done. I know the acoustic panels made a big difference in my room.
  8. I know the acoustic panels i bought from http://www.acoustimac.com. they made a huge difference. I got the DMD series in 2" ROXUL. couldn't be happier. Had a few custom ones made for the front wall too. I used Mega Sawtooth Hangers instead of the hardware they provided to hang them. highly recommended
  9. sweet set up- really like the shelves for the 61's. very well done.

    rf 7II

I was initially going to pickup the RFII's but decided to get the RP280f's along with matching center for now. I needed to cut some costs since I was buying all new stuff for my room. I figured I could always wait and hear how the reviews RF7iii's are when they come out and could upgrade down the road. But so far I really like the 280's. They sound great for movies and music. But will be keeping an eye on the III's for sure.

    Need new AVR

always had good luck with Yamaha-never had any issues. Just bought the Advantage RXA-3060 a few weeks back for home theater and the thing rocks. Great for movies & music. Also picked up a TSR-510 from costco about a month back for the living room.
  12. I did the same thing. even though I haven't really had a chance to use the room much yet . I bought a pair of Rb-61s for back surrounds but instead after listening preferred the RS62II's for back and sides. I think when I get the rear seats in place it will be better too for people sitting closer to the back. Seems to envelope the area much more.
  13. wow. outstanding room. love the bar area- plenty of room everywhere. first class job. congrats. my only critique is you need to post bigger pictures....HA
  14. I know I need to take some better pictures- but for now these might help explain a few things that were discussed. Very early framing view of front wall - you can see what surrounds the room. and also the area that was built to house a motorized screen with outlets and curtains behind the trim if so desired. wall outside room with white tyvek was the back of the existing house- this has been removed and is now the kitchen. sorry I know this thread is about speaker colors and not a build but figured a few pics might clear up some of the conversations in this thread.
  15. I hear ya...would save me a lot of heartache..except trying to figure out the whole long cable run issues of late with UHD. But I didn't mention that to her...
  16. that looks awesome. very nice setup. well I think I was out voted on the fixed screen. thats exactly what I told my wife. fixed screen is so much cheaper and much easier to hang on the wall. I think I am losing that battle. Besides picking out TVs suck IMHO. My head is spinning from reading al the reviews and problems with just about every set. Usually go with Costco just because I am so paranoid about about this huge tv and going through all the trouble of hanging it and then something happens and have to take it all down again and box it up. no thanks...at least with a projector it seems it would be much easier. One benefit I think having a tv is playing surround music. seems a lot of times you have to go into the menu for Blu-ray audio to select modes etc. don't really want to boot up the projector for that every time ( I know being lazy). thanks for the pics-appreciated
  17. haven't decided on a screen yet. But I do want a 2.35 scope screen. Much more common in a fixed screen than a motorized. much cheaper too. most likely a JVC projector. but the HDMI run is 35ft. to it. And all I have been reading lately is the trouble people are having getting HDR,UHD, 4k etc with such long cable runs. So its on the back burner for a bit. right now trying to pick out a TV. not an easy task nowadays. was leaning towards the Sony XBR75 X940D. I know new models are coming out soon too. seems all the gear is in transition now. I am new to all this 4k stuff. infact I don't have it yet. still rocking a 2006 plasma. The sound treatments are awesome. I ordered them from Acoustimac. They make a huge difference in taming down the room. used to be very echo-like before. I want to listen to music too in the room so it will help with that too.
  18. so nice- not making my decision any easier. yours seem a bit darker than Youthmans mock up picture. maybe there is hope after all.......
  19. yes , did n't want to box myself in with just one type of screen. don't think the wife wanted to use the room just for movies and wouldn't want to watch everything on a massive screen all the time. as for the speakers- yes, I would definitely leave the grills on, no matter what color I choose. thats what I thought originally. might add a bit of variation with the room with cherry. I know most home theaters the goal is to have the screen wall virtually disappear when watching a movie in the dark, which is why I though maybe the black would be better.
  20. well unlike most people- my room is not in the basement. its part of a new addition/remodel and is off the kitchen area on the main floor. behind the screen wall partial is a bathroom, most is just the back of the house. Originally it was just to be a mix-media-living/hangout room. but it kinda evolved to what you see. I know ideally home theaters are designed differently with AT screen and equipment in its own area etc. But too late to worry about that now. I was leaning towards the RF line only because I already had the surrounds. I also owned the first series RF line and liked them. Honestly never heard the 396s. I'm sure they are stellar. Have to consider the wife factor too. Also a more conventional center center would work better height wise not to obstruct any type of projection screen fixed or motorized that I install. Trust me there are many things after the fact you say to yourself that you would do differently. If this was the only room that was in the plans probably more thought could have been invested. But kitchens, bathrooms etc were also in the plans so there was a lot going on all at once.
  21. I have a 3060 on order. I have a two channel NAD I was going to use for the mains. I think down the road I would get at least a 3 channel for the fronts. I'm sure the 3060 should be able to handle the rest.
  22. yeah- I was debating if I should wait for the new line ( love new stuff- who doesn't). But would have to pay more for sure. Also curious as to how much better ( if any?) they would be from the current line. Impatience is tough to fight sometimes.
  23. thanks-I've been following yours- its awesome. love all the detail put into it. Mine was never intended to be a full fledge movie room- but things just kept changing. still might go with a tv on wall and motorized screen. kind of best of both worlds. hard to tell from the pic, but I had a recessed area above the cabinet in the ceiling installed for this purpose. I should take some more pictures I guess.
  24. wow-great job. really puts things in perspective. outstanding effort- really appreciate your time on this. Leaning towards black as well ( but still love the cherry).
