  1. The amp is a Pioneer VSX-919-AH-K rated at 120W per channel. I have read that at full load of 7.1 it can drop the power per channel considerably. My fronts are set as large and my crossover at 50Hz. I did this so that I could have more bass comming from the front speakers while getting a tad more bang from the sub. I am also biamping the fronts as well. Am I asking too much from my amp? BTW Rudy, thank you very much for your very helpful information. I am very new at this and have much to learn still
  2. Good point. I sure hope it isn't one of the drivers, but could it be? I mean it isn't like rattling or the distinctive sound of a blown speaker but more like some sort of harshness at high volumes. I bought my wire at walmart and did not solder the bannana plugs, just used the included screws in it. That is why I suspected the cable. I will try running all the speakers one by one at high volume and trying to figure out which is the culprit or all. I don't think the sub is having issues though. It has no problems shaking the house and for reference it is an SVS PB12-NSD. Would perhaps unplugging all the speakers and plugging them one by one to hear which distorts/gets harsh a good way to figure it out? And lastly, so it isn't me who is crazy for thinking the Pionner should have enough juicy to drive my speakers to reference without breaking a sweat or sounding harsh?
  3. I have the same pioneer receiver and I find that my speakers also tend to clip or distort at high volumes. Some movies do at -15db while some of the newer ones like ironman 2 can do it at -22db reference. I find this odd since I am sure that my rc62, rf82 and rs42 should be able to handle reference volume without breaking sweat yet I am nowhere near there. I am no expert by any means but I have read the pioneer drops power like crazy when pushing high volumes and speakers like the klipsch capable of variable impedance just make matters worse. So is it the speakers? The cable (14gauge)? Or the receiver? Thanks!
  4. How about those Icon VS-14 surround speakers? would those be a good match? Would I be missing anything by going with those instead of say, the RS-42/52s? Considering the price difference is quite significant... How about BOSE 201 series V. They sounded OK at the store... sorry if I am such noob, I am still learning Thanks!
  5. Hi there, the silly guys from BestBuy here in Canada do not carry the reference series... Also, my wife just told me she doesn't want another set of "big ugly" speakers around, so it seems like I have to go the bookshelf route... What would be best? RS-52s, 42s, or RB-51s, 61s? Thanks!
  6. Best buy is having a super deal for 350 for the two. So I thought I would ****** a pair and run them as my surround speakers. I also have a 200 gift card that is itching to be spent! Thanks for you reply!
  7. I have 50" panasonic, a TC-P50G10, and I am very happy with it, and if you are going to get another one, I would strongly suggest that you stick with the G series at the very least. The V series is suppossed to be better, but for the price the G series gives you all you need. What you need to concern yourself is with the panel type and so long as you choose something with a NeoPDP panel (S series and up) you should be ok). Hope this helps.
  8. Hi there, I have an RC-62 as my center and RF-82s as my front speakers. I just found these JBL es80s, and I am wondering if they would be a good match to my Klisch as rear/surround speakers. The subwoofer will most likely be a Velodyne DLS4000R/5000R. I am not completely set on the receiver, but it is likely to be a Pioneer VSX-9040. I watch movies and will listen to music on a regular basis with this set up. Thanks a lot for your help, I am still getting my head around all these goodies.
  9. I am very new at this, so I wasn't too sure about subs, etc. My friend has a Velodyne CT-12 I believe, and I didn't know this until I asked him this weekend. What I did know is that back when he got it, I couldn't believe the power that sub had, I was floored. I did go to my local futureshop to listen to some subs, and both the DLS4000R/5000R were fantastic sounding. I couldn't compare them to the Klipsch since it was not hooked up and at the time I was looking to get the center channel speaker (RC-62). But I am starting to think that the DLS4000R might be enough for my purposes, though that 5000R made the whole room shake! he he Would that DLS5000R be too much for my setup? RF-82/RC-62 and the rears still to be determined... Thank you guys for your good responses and suggestions. I have so much to learn!
  10. That is a terrible story, I am sorry that your experience with Velodyne subs is not what you would expect. I started looking at Klipsch speakers after buying the Promedia 2.1 THX for my computer. These little speakes rock so much, and surprisingly, they can keep up well with my 100W tube guitar amp at home practice volume very well. I heard the Veoldynes at futureshop and was very impressed with all of them. As is often the case, they didn't have the RW12D, but they did at a london drugs, but I didn't get to listen to it properly. I just want that rumble/kick on the chest that I am sure the Velodyne will deliver. That 15" sub was, well, powerful. I would prefer to stay with Klipsch, but what alternatives do I have? Thanks!
  11. Sorry to revibe an old thread here, but I am interested in either the RW10D, or RW12D, or one of the Veoldyne DLS4000R/DLS5000R. I am very new at this stuff so I just want some suggestions. I have the RF-82 for front speakers, and the RC-62 for center. I don't have rear speakers yet, but they are comming Thanks!
