  1. I did a side by side test of the Cornwall I and the Chorus II to decide which pair I should sell. It's amazing how close in sound these two speakers are. The Cornwall may have a little more bass and the Chrorus II a little more on the high end, but all and all they are very close. Now it's just down to size and look. One is tall and skinny and the other is short and fat. Heck, this is harder than picking a bride. Would you rather have one that is short and fat, but cooks well or one that's tall, skinny, but can't do a darn thing?

  2. Dang guys, here I thought I was going to learn about some new gizzmo for my speakers and I get a freaking shut-off valve for my toilet instead!

Fini, I'm going to unwind all the other advice you been giving me including using mayonnaise as lube for my pots and cramming a wet sponge into my horns to disperse the sound in different directions. I'm begining to think you're just pulling my leg.

And what am I supposed to do with all this 8 gauge wire I bought!

  3. I've heard that solid copper wire is the best conductor for speakers (along with a million other options). So why can't I save a few bucks and just buy some 12/2 Romex house wire from Home Depot and roll with that? I've never seen it done so there must be a simple reason not too. I'm just too dumb to figure it out. What's the scoop?

  4. What you have to do now is stop looking and comparing, it will drive you nuts!

No question about, Bos. Once you pull the trigger you start really looking around. People are wierd that way, I guess. We spend a lot less time picking a doctor than we do a TV, but picking a TV is a lot more fun!

  5. News flash - the Plasma went on sale so I did a return on the LED and repurchased the Plasma. For some reason I am sleeping better at night. Plasma seems to be the way for us to go for now. Everyone I talked to at the store (5 different people) was sold on the Plasma. In the end, I'm sure they are both great sets.

  6. I purchased a Sumsung Plasma TV, but went back to the store and swapped it out for a new model LED. I am going to hang it on a wall and the LED is 30 lbs lighter. I was also told that the Plasmas run hot and hanging them on a wall is not a good idea. The guy at the store said I could do what I wanted, but he thought the Plasma was a better TV. They are both high end models. Did I screw up?

  7. The fellow that restored it for me works in the "Hill Country" of Texas, outside of Austin. He is a wizard at what he does.

Hey Boxx, would you be kind enough to share his name with me? I have an SX-1980 too and it's starting to act up a little bit. I only run Klipsch with it and you really can't turn it up more than about 1/3 of the way without blowing your ears off. Running a CD player through it is unbelievable, but the phono pre-outs are a little weak. I wouldn't give mine up for anything. Your is very nice - the only one that I've seen with rack handles and I've seen quite a few.

  8. this is a no go these unit have components in them that prevent cold starts

So what do I need to do - leave the surge protector on all the time and just switch the unit on and off from power switch? I got in the habit of turning the surge protector off to shut down my sub-woofer which is behind some other stuff. When you say "cold starts" is that why the problem seems to go away after the system warms up or I pull the plug between the amp and pre-amp? In essence clearing the the capacitor of the excess power or spikes?

Sorry if I seem novice, but this is true. I don't understand the interworkings of electronics too well, but if leaving the surge protector on solves my problem you've made my day.

  9. As others have said, I think the Belle is the best looking speaker Klipsch has ever made. I know the new Palladium are zebra grained linia and all that, but there is something mystical about these speakers. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder though.

  10. No manual reset, but if you pull the connectors between the amp and pre-amp sections in the back the watt meters stop bouncing around and the problem subsides. I have the unit plugged into a surge protector ($50 model) and first I turn the surge protector on and then the receiver. I reverse the process when I'm done listening. It did cross my mind that maybe I wasn't getting good clean power from the surge protector. The only thing I haven't tried is by passing it.

This thing is a relic from the late seventies (Pioneer SX-1980). It's a great intrgrated package, but a bit fickle in it's old age. Intermittent problems come and go, but the tripping seems to keep flashing back[:)]

  11. Here's one for you - my Pioneer reciever keeps tripping its protection circuit, so I disconnected everything and it still trips even at zero volumn. The watt meters bounce up and down a few times and then she goes. Once it warms up things get a lot better, but it still trips from time to time. Any idea what's going on from the techies out there?

    Thanks

  12. They are too simple in design to take to a shop. First, see if it's the amp. Did you hook up another speaker and see if it buzzes too? If so, it's not the Belles. Next, disconnect one driver at a time to see which one might be buzzing. If that doesn't solve the problem then it might be in the crossover (doubt it though). You can buy new crossovers, or a new driver from Crites for a couple hundered bucks (less than the shop fee) and your set.
