Keep the crossover as simple as possible!! Besides it would be a difficult task to do this. ---------------- On 7/18/2003 7:15:18 AM DeanG wrote: I would hardly characterize the speakers in the Reference line as sounding "woody", "tubby", "bloated", or any of the other sounds one usually associates with "weak" or improper construction. ---------------- I didnt break down the reference line like that. I only point out that there can be done some improvements. Hey, I bought 2 pairs of the RF-3s. There is just some room left for tweaking to bring them to the real thing. ---------------- On 7/18/2003 7:15:18 AM DeanG wrote: Wrapping on a cabinet doesn't tell you anything about how a speaker is going to sound these days -- not with all of the computer modeling and listening that's done by the good ol boys at Klipsch. ---------------- Yes, indeed. But the modelling is done with a certain price tag in mind. The strategy of klipsch is imho : very good drivers and nice crossovers. The enclosure is somewhat left out and indeed modelled the best way they could to prevent enclosure coloration by using large ports to reduce the stress on the cabinet. Hey, you attached another xover. Did you change something now or used better components??
  2. Very nice setup. Bet it looks even much beter in reality than on this picture.
  3. Congrats with your purchase. Nice system. From the pic I could see you have the sony dvp-ns755v. How do you like it. And what do u use as surrounds???
  4. Dougdrake, I live in Belgium. You maybe know that small country. I checked the USA web of sony and the model DVP-NS755V that jzoz01 mentioned is there. It looks just like the DVP-NS705V the model in Europe. I didnt find any counterpart for the DVP-NS905V in the US. They jump directly to the DVP-NS999ES which is the same in Europe!!! Seems sony made a serious gap in the US for SACD/DVD players??? They leave out a component of the QS range. You have to jump from a $250 to a $1200 model for some quality. Damn, with all there different strategies in different locations... .
  5. Look below. That is it, nothing more. Previous I owned tannoy speakers. That was for my first "real" 2 channel system.
  6. Nice work DeanG. From your picture I draw the electrical schematic. It is the same as in my RF-3s. 4th order for the horn driver and a 2nd order for the woofs. Off course the values would be different because of the crossover frequency. The horn driver of the RF-7 seems to have a notch filter. Im still puzzled why 4th order for horn and 2nd order for the woofs. This means that the woofs are rolling off 12db/octave and the horn 24db/octave. So the woofs continue to work in the range of the tweeter more then the other way around. Any thoughts? Im just in to the crossover thing for now. Im thinking to do the same for my RF-3s. ( Although klipsch used very good components of MER and MET type for capacitors. Dont know about the inductors) I would definitely separate the crossover of the horn and woofs to avoid interference from the inductors. Happy tweaking.

Aren't you the guy that totally wiped out the relationship between your drivers and cabinet by adding about 3 tons of internal bracing to the inside of your RF-3's? ---------------- Open your RF-7's and check out for yourself!!! I didn't wiped out anything. The loss in internal volume is well compensated with decend damping material. Try it yourself, it will make a difference!! It is well know that an enclosure must be as rigid as possible!! Tap on the enclosure of your RF-7's and you will hear it.

It would be a big dog. Besides when there is a chance that the speaker would tip over feets will break instantly. I did broke a foot when tipping over the speaker when replacing the spikes for the pads.

Also not the metion I have a twin size bed in my room. Don't worry, I have a plan on how to set it all up. Thank you for your help. Later I may ask, Ok, got my RF-7s, whats next? O by the way, is 3200 for a Pioneer Elite 53 inch HDTV a good price? Love that finish. CD ---------------- I think you would say: Ok, got my RF-7s, My room is to small.

Anyway, I've been sadly disapointed, like I said before, my old dvd player i bought in '99 looks much nicer than this one. so sad. ---------------- That would be the dvp-ns705v. The one below the dvp-ns905v. I didn't check the 705. It is not even of the QS range. Like said before: Not all sony products are good but the good ones are really good. I did an extended review of the players (testing at home) before I bought one.
  11. Just did my rear RF-3's. Took me again about 2 days. But the result is there. sacd multichannel: bring them on !!
  12. No Bass management for me!! Pure discrete full range channels.
  13. Yep, your room is to tiny for reference floorstanding speakers. Certainly for RF-7. Did you ever seen those. My room is 13 by 22. When I placed my first pair of RF-3's in the room I was marvelled at how big they where. In the store they looked a lot smaller
  14. I recently bought a sony dvp-ns905v and also thought never buy a sony again when I was returning a sony receiver a few years back. What is the model you talking about?? Anyway I am impressed with my sony. IMHO one of the best allround players out there. Check out my post http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=36769&sessionID={93F06C1C-66B3-41E7-82E2-2530943569B1}
  15. Probably the position of the speakers. Certainly the toe in of the speakers. Maybe you held the SPL meter differently. There is little change needed to alter your readings. Did you move your sofa????

Mains as RF-7s, RF-3II Center and Surrounds, or Mains as RF-7s, RC-3II as a Center, and RF-3IIs as Sorrounds. ---------------- That would be a nice setup. But if you go to 7's it is maybe better to find an RC-7. It is almost an RF-3 but there are differences in the horn. Just for matching. What is your room size???

You have the denon 2900. So It would make sense to have 5 RF-3 for music. Isn't it. ---------------- On 7/17/2003 4:18:17 AM marksdad wrote: but i do still play multichannel output on 2 channel jusy to hear the cornerhorns wail ---------------- Oh, If you do this then your denon 2900 have to do some management to multiplex the discrete channels in 2 channels. This would result in less quality!! From my latest experiment I found also that there is a subwoofer discrete channel effective used in sacd. So you definitly need a subwoofer to prevent to do bass management to multiplex this channel to the large speakers!! I have my sony set all speakers to large and subwoofer to yes. So no management on any channel.
  18. Yepie, rf3iicrazy points out what the RF3 is missing. Internal bracing!! And for that matter all the reference line including the RF-7. Dont know about the heritage. The enclosure absorbs or spread out sounds that will interfere with the sound from the drivers. That is why rf3iicrazy (and others) find the RF-3s to bright or to boomy when place near a whall to get more (boomy) bass. In this way the mids are lacking and the bass missing or to boomy.
  19. Open the subwoofer by yourself and check what is wrong. You can open it via the woofer or the connection panel. I would unscrew first the connection panel to see if all electronics are OK. Maybe before unscrewing anything you can play with the level control and the power switches. They are maybe dusty ... .

Hard to find that much material in most TV's built today ---------------- My thomson has also a 1" MDF panel at the top. It would probably also support the 125 lbs speaker but it would not be happy with the vibrations. Yours seems to be built in a wooden cabinet decoupled from the TV itself. It is indeed true that recent RPTV´s use some kind of polyester as housings. No chance these would support (or even have the room) a 125lbs speaker!!
  21. ---------------- On 7/15/2003 7:38:32 PM marksdad wrote: listen to gary, plus unless you are listening to dvd-a, or dvd-v, you dont have use for 5 speaks in music, matrixing downgrades the overall quality ---------------- marksdad, Never heard of sacd multichannel. Once you heard this you wont go back to 2 channels. Would go for the RF-3s. Spend the rest to a decent dvd/sacd player. Movies and Multichannel sacd would be very nice on 5 RF-3´s!! But if 2 channel is more important the RF-7´s would do better. I paid even more for one of mine RF-3´s than you will have to for an RF-7!!!! Pfff 300 for an RF-3 ???????? What about 5 RF-7´s at that price . .(If you have the place)
  22. Well, I did some measurements with the Radios Shack SPL meter. The RF-3 reloaded -3db point is 28Hz (in my room) where as the original RF-3 has a -3db point at about 33Hz. The response off the RF-3 reloaded is smoother. I noticed that the panel vibration can do a lot of harm bringing unwanted sound in to the picture altering the frequency response. If it is not only the room that alters the sound but also the speaker then what is left of the original sound reproduction!!! I have to do my rears very soon because I noticed some coloration when playing the sacd Gloria Estefan Rhythm is gonna get you. The rears are now with sacd multichannel as important as the fronts!! Someone in the mean time did this tweak and also marvelled at the result??? Tweak on .
  23. Yes, klipsch and build quality. It could definitely be better, certainly when you go to the RF-7. I didnt mind when I broke a foot of one of my RF-3´s because I was removing them to place the pads directly in the speaker. But grills that break? You certainly dont want to lift the speaker with the grill!!! I think the grills are very nice. I began to worry about speaker quality when I first checked the speaker wires through the bass reflex. Finally I ended opening the RF-3´s to find that it was far from perfect: speaker wire (probably better in RF3II) , dampening material, enclosure bracing. But ok, for the price of the RF-3 I think no speaker will be able to do better or not ? I checked the RF-7 to discover the same internal qualities except for the speaker wire but at a bigger price tag. So I ended up tweaking my RF-3´s: speaker wire, dampening material and very important bracing structure. The result is astounding. Still the crossover is something to think about also. But I have still to do my rear RF-3´s. Nothing lost, The RF-7 can be unleashed as my RF-3´s. They would be great speakers if you have the room size. Hey, how does the B&W sub compare to your klipsch sub??? Why not a second KSW15??
  24. Yep, indeed nice looking on the picture. I would have to see and certainly hear it before thinking of buying it. It is a huge center speaker weighing almost 40kg. I'm always chocked to see such a large speaker supported by a RPTV. Not to speak when it is playing and produces serious vibrations onto the RPTV.
  25. Very nice player. Before buying this one I checked out the pioneer dv-656SA and the Philips 963SA. I was looking for a very good all in one player -> cd/dvd(-audio)/sacd The pioneer is nice but in CD and certainly SACD less than the Sony and Philips. The Philips has trouble with the software which is upgradeable (That is a positive thing because there are some bugs in it). I prefer a player that is good from the start. The Sony proofs this. It never fails (during review and up till now) and the interface is flawless. The build quality is very solid. It makes no noise at all when operational. This is certainly an issue with my older pioneer dv-525. The dv-656SA is also very quiet. Never thought I would go Sony again??!! But it was imho obvious to do so. Stepping back from the pioneer I am missing now dvd-audio which is a minor thing because I m in the SACD camp (certainly the multichannel one) . Enjoy the picture. Yep it is the silver one. Never thought I would go silver either??!! But it has something .??? Any thoughts ???
