  1. Thanks TCH came as described... it works great, and thanks for the great deal. It has made some recordings, much much better and more importantly for me removes the box sound with my speakers, with bad recordings... Thanks again!!!!
  2. This sounds great in theory, but it's not that simple, sometimes the artists get involved who cant hear very well due to age, or too much loud music or may I say taste, and they control the recording, or part of the art of their music, involves many harsh transients and distortion... which rarely work well in most dynamic playback systems that I have heard. I watched george harrison once with his son on the tele, he was trying to help his son with a recording. He went to the eq and did a reverse smiley with it, and thought it sounded great...he was so happy with himself and he certainly had the right, but to some peoples ears it might not sound that good. Then there are the engineers who put this stuff together, I was once in a recording studio where the band beck had recorded. it was a small studio, they didnt even know their "control monitors" were blown.
  3. Wuzzer you are right this is strange weather.... Golf season might end up starting 2.5 to 3 months later than last year... The deer in my neighborhood dont look happy, they have done almost 10gs worth of damage to my sisters trees, even hopped over her pool fence to eat some evergreen trees....the good thing is it may help control those nasty little ticks that are all over this part of the country...
  4. My wife brought home a cd, and she looked up the "numbers", she knows I'am a little off, when it comes to recordings. It came out that they were 8-7-11-, I knew I was in trouble before she put it in, it was so bad that it was unbearable, sounded like pa speakers stuffed with cotton balls and then someone hit the distortion button. She also picked up some mid 80's ADRM disks that werent very good either but, I never expect much when the brits record some types of music...
  5. Cask05 what an awesome site thanks for posting!!! Confirms a weird notion I have had... I always look for older cd's, most of the new ones I have bought, I cant listen to..I have up to four copies of some cd's, just looking for good sound, and when I see remastered it isn't worth the chance..
  6. When I worked on my raw birch cornwalls, the wood was so old and dry some of the screws in places came out with a very gentle twist. I took all the speakers out, the crossovers, and back panels, and did the toothpick and glue trick but added slivers of hardwood, worked wonders.
  7. Glad you are wearing ear plugs! I have had 2 pairs of Cornwalls and I would recommend Altec Model 19's if you really want to hear drums crack. I havent heard cornscalas but I bet they would sound great too.
  8. Twistedcrankhammer, if it is fully functional and looks good I will take it. I need one for the garage and that might be the coolest looking eq ever..
  9. Get your user name was always curious. I have ridden a few big 2 strokes they are insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I put one in a tree the first time I rode one on a small track. I rode a tricked out 750 crotch rocket it was tame in comparison to a kx500 although I am sure it was faster. Smart man buying 2 of those, the one in the crate is probably worth 15,000... Not a bad little return, probably cost around 4600 to 5000 new. I have yz 250 with almost 50hp and at a little over 200 pounds its pretty quick... Be awesome if you could post some picks....
  10. Welcome Pochago, lots of great info and people on this board.... I must say I do find your poll as a first post a little disconcerting, can be an easy way to data mine info. As far as the price if they are cornwall 1.5's in good condition in all regards it would be a fine price. I have never heard C2's but I heard a big difference between the 1's and what some call 1.5's
  11. It certainly is!!!! I am an Altec guy, and all of these gentlemen still answer my questions and tolerate me, tolerance is a great thing, we need more of it on this small planet of our's. I have met 2 forum members and they were awesome!!!!
  12. I would assume when you sign a service contract, the provider has to provide a service, I also think as a federal regulated service, you should have some protection..ISP's are a little different. Tell them you are calling the AG in your state and are willing to make a complaint, and then to the FTC for fraud.... talk to someone in all areas, get names, make notes, all along the chain.. demand dates of service termination in your area, and a refund. Good luck Bob thanks for those caps, they worked great!!!
  13. You and your wife are on point DeanG... Tell you all a funny story, I was at a restaurant about 4 yrs ago, couldn't help eavesdroppping the table next to me. It was a "company meeting over lunch" they were trying to manufacture a stew for trader joes, their concern was cross contamination from gmo crops, around their prospective suppliers. At this point, it appeared, for the organic listing at trader joes,it had to be tested by TJ's and be completely clean. These guys were scared. It might have changed? I have tasted their organic honey nut cheerios, they are not that bad Dean...to everyone remember everytime you put a unnatural preservative in your body and even some natural ones I assume, you are being preserved.....
  14. I was wondering if people had some favorite fast foods, and also if they were from where they grew up, or other places. I have eaten all over the country and most of my favorites are from where I grew up, western n.y. I was thinking it has to be some form of conditioning, because the odds are to grea,t they would all be from the same general area. All these foods I have tried in dozens and dozens of cities, but to me, it is never as good. My favorite pizza is Bocce pizza, best wings are Rooties,... which has moved to Kentucky "Duffs" are ok, favorite hot dogs are Teds charbroilled sahlens hot dogs, but I dont eat hot dogs anymore, best nasty Taco is mighty taco.. If anyone is familiar with these or wants recipes for their sauces I can make them all almost exactly, the people I know who have tried them say they taste exactly the same... Please share some of your favorite fast nasty food favorite's and if you have recipes and are availiable for PM's that would be great too.
  15. Thanks tubefanatic, I always thought it was something in the milk, was watching a movie from the early 80's the other day, it is amazing how womens bodies have changed
  16. I have not heard, but have heard of them. they have a get together every year that looks like a very nice time. I saw something a few years ago and there was a link to a gentlemen who was making some very interesting tube amps that looked like something out of a frakenstein movie or very early tube based, medical devices. Interesting that in "the mill" his main system design is very similar to Romy's the chat..
  17. Bose people can be a little fanatical, he would have been in for a big suprise.... You have to admit, for such a small speaker they do create a lot of sound in a little package. I just sold some series vi's that I bought with stands for 29$. I do miss working outside with them on full blast and never worrying about blowing them up or caring. The funny thing is my 5 yr didnt say a word when they disappeared from his play room, when I parted with my cornwalls about a 1yr and a half ago, to this day he says " I miss the speakers with the tweeter and the midrange and the woofer"
  18. Don't know if it needs dampening and was curious if anyone had done it? right now I have them sitting on the floor in my basement, on a 1" pieces of foam rubber, and when I you tap the horn on top in the center, there is a very high pitched ring..
  19. Coytee that sounds very cool. Has anyone ever tried dampening the k-402's?
  20. Thanks Dean, thinking of starting with the k-69's and then maybe the Tads or the ones Bob Crites recommends.
  21. 4 altec 416 8 b's, should sound pretty good? It seems that this box, with these drivers, can keep up with some very large horns, some that are much bigger than the 402..
  22. What an amazing pianist, such a big loss, even the russians appreciated him.
  23. "they sound like a couple of fart cans" that is F....... Funny. You sir have defined the sound of these to a T, in two words.. that is the best reveiw, and the best description and should be the only phrase ever used about these speakers ever again...
  24. Hey Cut-throat when I find an active crossover we can try them with your K-horns. I am hoping one of these days for some Jub cabinets to pop up. Right now I'am thinking of doing a Onken w build which is a Japanese designed, simple br cabinet, but bumping up the cubic feet to around 24'. The design calls for sand filled walls which I will pass on because that bumps the weight up to around 600lbs per cab.
