  1. Coytee, complete leap of faith, with lots of positive input I have read on this board and in other places. I have read many a time it is a great horn. We do all have different ears and different listening styles and different experiences as far as listening. I have been looking for a horn that can play classical music for a bit, hopefully this is the one!!!!
  2. You are more than welcome anytime, for hearing this system or my current ones, as are other forum members. I have a bunch of eq to acquire before these start to play. If anyone in the mpls/st.paul area wants to have a listen and has la scalas or khorns or another type of acceptable speaker, and an active crossover let me know. I will bring them by.
  3. Dtel they certainly are large, they dwarf my 612 cabinets and are almost as big as my M19's... should be fun!!!! Now to find the rest of the puzzle.....
  4. Couldn't click the link, what is the listings heading?
  5. I most certainly will, still up in the air about the design. Strongly leaning towards dual 15's in about 24 cubic foot boxes. I was very happy to see that the 402's arrived unscathed. The boxes did have some damage so I WAS VERY CONCERNED, I opened them up at the freight depot to make sure they were unharmed. Luckily the shipping company packed them suspended in the middle of huge boxes, with 6" of space around all sides except the horn mouth which was sat on a pallet with some type of rubber like material. What was really interesting was that there was hardly any packing materials, mainly cardboard straps that held the horns in the center of the box.
  6. Thanks Preston Tom, your endorsement is reassuring. When I first started playing with audio again, you were the first to respond to a question I had, it was sage advice. To this day it comes to mind when I evaluate a new piece of gear.
  7. Thanks Kevin for all your help getting these to me! Thanks forum members for all of your shipping advice! Future purchasers for shipping, make sure there are some reputable shippers close to where you are buying. In this case there wasn't and it was a PITA!!!
  8. Rivernuggets, that is awesome!!! what is up with the dashboard cams???
  9. Bump! for a great guy who taught many, on these types of amps on many forums, he even came out and installed my first one. I bought it from him and then bought a second unit from another source. If you want lots of clarity, and a tube like sound, in a hassle free unit with ALOT of power for next to nothing, this might be your unit. In a 2 channel configuration, with my speakers and room, one of these units, bested alot of seperates and receivers, costing much more.. I will give you a partial list, Onkyo m 504 p 304, yamaha mx 1000, c-80, carver c-2 yamaha b-2. I could elaborate more... Good luck Wuzzer with your sale and new sub!!!
  10. Thanks, Bhendrix for the suggestion, I tried but they dont sell boxes...
  11. Thank you all, I recently received a phone call from MrTie, the seller of these fine units. He most graciously with his father, I might add, in two cars, took the "butt uglies" or the snout of the "hog" to fed ex... they rejected the horns... not at one location but at two... This is after, I had a confirmation on price, and packing, from both their corporate, and a local affliate..... They looked at them and said no way....... I need another shipping option, and I am fervently looking...... any suggestions for shipping and packing places, in the saginaw michigan area, would be great... there just seems to be very few in this area..
  12. Thanks Davis419b, I think I will have fed ex pack them face side down, with a lot of padding and stepped padding from the driver to the wood base in compression with the top of the box... Thanks again....
  13. I was wondering if someone could tell me the depth of the k-402/ 69 combo. From what i have read, and correct me if I am wrong, the width is just under 40" the height is 25 1/2. I need the depth from the front horn lip to the back of the K-69 for shipping purposes. Also, would it be best to ship with the sleds on or off ? Thanks for any advice.
  14. Thanks CECAA850, Great packing job, and Thanks for the info! seeing your build threads, I wonder what you were shipping???
  15. I just sent 455 lbs of speakers that way yesterday. Craters and Freighters (YRC freight in this instance). CECAA850, did craters and freighters pack the items after drop off, or did you pack them first? trying to get some 402's shipped and at a hundred pounds a pair.. the quotes I have received are a little high...
  16. Sorry to hear about your loss, it is truly awful to lose a loved one, good luck.....
  17. Pat, You moved to Michigan ?..... Hey Cut Throat!!! Lets talk soon.... Didnt move to michigan, bought a pair of 402, K 69's for a project.. And figured if C1 was close by he could pick them up and try them out?
  18. Colterphoto1, That is disheartening to say the least, I have read so many rave reveiws, that this suprises me. You may want to post some pictures of your space. If you can get up to michigan? You can borrow my 402's, and use them for awhile, to see if the work better...
  19. That stuff looks great! I will have to try some, I truly appreciate a good spice. Thanks for posting. If you are into spices, try your local Indian, chinese, or korean markets... you can buy large amounts of your favorites for very reasonable prices... I find that, if you make rubs, or indian, thai, sri lankian or any type of curry or spice mixture, if you put it in a coffee grinder, the oils that are left in the spices release, and combine, to make the flavors a little more intense.... Just dont ever use it for espresso, again !
  20. O.T. just curious, we all have different ears, speakers, listening spaces, tastes in music, and even different cuts of the same albums etc... I always read, that many amps sound the same, I haven't experienced this. I havent heard the systems that you have, how would you characterize tube amps as being different? Of course only ones that have coloration? The reason I say this, I am sure someone could make a tube amp sound like s.s. Thanks...
  21. I am sure Craig will chime in, and my experience with tube amps is very limited, so take this with a grain, I have been through a lot of S.S. gear some that supposedly have "tube like" sound, others were just considered very solid performers. Tubes present music very differently to my ears, with my horn speakers, it is definetly a deeper, more pleasant sound stage, with my speakers, as if the music is around you, and is in layers. S.S. seems to present the music on a more direct uniform plane, with my tube amps, it is like the speakers are breathing on you... The detail in certain recordings seems holographic and over your shoulders and with some instruments, it is like you can pick them out of the air, instead of them hitting you in the face. I am sure some S.S. amps can do this, and it may be a form of coloration, but it is wonderful....
  22. Thanks guys for all your help, Coytee is going to send me a bunch of info on the K-402, K-69... I just hope this horn will work with an Onken W cabinet....This will just be a test cab with dual 15"s, in an approximately a 22 cubic foot box, heavely braced , in a three way configuration. Hoping to make it an "all American build" with Klipsch, Altec, and JBL parts. If any of you have an interest, a French build of this cabinet can be found at , Melaudia remontage caissons onken W. Thanks again!!!
  23. I was wondering if someone could post the specs of these? I was lucky enough, to purchase a pair from forum member Mrtie. It was a hard decision, especially after some of the comments, that Craig NOS made, but the church of Coytee, may have One The BATTLE.. the fight isn't over I hear Maron hornsak in the back of my head whispering, there is some unfinished business here... Looking to use these in a Onken cabinets.... with dual woofers....
  24. I'am sure I will!!!! should be a fun project.. I will call you in a bit and put a check in the mail today... Thanks!!!!!!
