  1. Ok, just an update, since Bryston is in repair, just put a dynaco St-70, wow nice amp, first time i hear that good job, beautiful center image, no need to change the Emo regards and thanks to you all!
  2. Well, my bryston is going back to factory, i play with the gain, and find when i put maximum gain on both side with mono pink, brown and white noise, one side is much louder than the others. So i have a trouble with the amp. i will send it back to bryston to refurbishing. Also received today, my crite type A, crossover, so it will give me an idea if i have also a crossover problem or a tired tweeter? it is playing but not as refine as the other and when i switch cable, it shows. i will put my dynaco st70 on my Belle, never had the chance to hear it? i hack my own post, but is it true if my speaker cable hit the dynaco case, it will fry my transfos? thanks for your great help all! it is appreciated
  3. I'm not sure what you're suggesting is snake oil. Emo is a solid budget brand, and Benchmark is a solid brand that charges a bit more. The Benchmark probably touts superior specs, but both of those pre-amps should be audibly transparent, and neither should alter the sound stage. Whichever one can push the most volts will have a potentially audible S/N advantage, and greater flexibility with amp pairing and gain staging. If it were me, I would go with the Benchmark. my center stage, is a bit left side, and i plug my Emotiva, directly my power amp on my Belle, recently i had the chance to listen other power amp, and still my sound is a bit left, not center and soundstage a bit poor... So, i was wondering with better dac, better soundstage? or is it just snake oil that will help sound stage, because i will be changing 4 quarter for a dollar?
  4. XDA-2 And current version for Benchmark, but i saw some mk1 benchmark for low as 300$ to 500$ CAD?
  5. Good Day, i have a emotiva DAC 2, and i am thinking to upgrade to benchmark dac/preamp, should i'll hear improvement for the stage and sound, or it is just snake oil? regards
  6. is it really good sounding dac/preamp? but i am upper 48,more 49 parallel?
  7. Good Day, My Dac emotiva SDA 2, accept AES/PSU XLR for numéric, instead of using a standard usb cable, i want to make one that goes in the XLR AES/PSU. I need help, to figure what cable from the USB goes to the XLR? Any help is welcome i do this, because my computer, has little RFI and i suspect my USB cable is near his maximum length so with the XLR version, thing should improve and have better noise floor Regards
  8. I thought Belles had a maximum peak of 400 wts, 100 wts more or less continuous with normal program material (although I wouldn't push it). No matter, though, they will produce 115 dB @ 63 watts in a 3,000 cu. ft. room, according to Don Keele (Dope from Hope, Vol 16, #1). Keele probably had reference to about a 16 foot listening distance, because PWK characterized that as "normal listening position." Tapajeurs, how big is your listening room? How far away do you sit? One stereo Bryston 4B is plenty. The Belle, La Scala, and Klipschorn are among the worlds most efficient home speakers. You may want a subwoofer, though, below about 60 Hz, perhaps a horn loaded one. Put your Belles near a wall, or in a corner for maximum room gain. If they are in a corner, you may want to put some absorbing material on the walls from where a line parallel with the front of the box, and pressed up against it, at midrange/tweeter height, will hit the side walls. Two feet out from there ought to be enough, Also put some at the first reflection points (mirror test), and a carpet where the tweeter sound will bounce off the floor. Area rugs should be enough. Don't over-damp. If you get a lot of hiss, turn the gain down until it is tolerable. A little hiss from near the speakers is normal, but it should all but disappear when you get far enough away. In the old tube days, everyone tolerated a little hiss -- it demonstrated you had a tweeter. Now, some young people think it is an indicator of an alien invasion. Room is 15 to 18 feets deep and Belles put are up one feet on a mini wall of brick and volcanic rock with a back wall of brick back (8 high x 16 large). A lot of concrete there, not me the old owner of my house like it that way. As the mirror test good idea. And What is a horn load sub? Also i have decrease the gain, for a 1/4 and sound blooms, will experiment with it, since no danger for my Belles playing with that. And i am a old, so the hiss, is already in my ear, from working in bad condition , but hum noise, not for me. But i take note for the hiss, because i do not want to put to much emphasis on the hiss thing (Waf won't appreciate it!) Thanks all!
  9. i don't have preamp exactly, i have an Emotiva DAC XDA-2, that have XLR and a numeric preamp sort of in there and have multiple entry for all my numeric needs. For the record, Soon, i will go with xlr aes digital in the weekend if amazon is quick to deliver the XDA-2 accept this pro digital connection. And by then, i will be all XLR in my hifi For the noise: As for a little noise, i hear one, but not much i put some "graphite"(no sure if it is spell correctly) to get rid of some RFI i have here. Work ok, but i use for interconnect and speaker cable the canary microphone cable and do my own interconnect, this cable is for pro, and extra scheilded. Also with the Bryston, i had to change my USB cable, not enough scheild, to a better one, with the RFI noise parasite cancelling. All this seems to help or maybe it is snake oil?
  10. Good Day, Just bought a Bryston 4B 198? to put on my Belles. Question n1, what would be the correct gain adjustment for the amps? Question n2, is it to powerful for the Belles? Question b3, I have ordered a type A crossover, will it improved the "finesse" of the sound? Question n4, is preferable to have one stereo 4B or a pair of 4B in mono, one for each Belle? I have search the forum, but didn't found info on gain adjust and Bryston Belles? thanks for anyhelp Best regards all!
  11. This the time of the years, i have to ask myself, iMatch, does it worth it? so i am asking you guys, are you using match? And the benefit are? it didn't protect my collection this spring, i have to rip everything again (1000 cd's), so what other benefit imatch would gave you? is it worth it? and what are your appreciation? is it just a synchro gimicks, or there's a real value added? Since every one turn to streaming, is there any benefit left? regards
  12. Ok i have found it, in Canada, for sale. So with my blue tooth mouse and kboard, my DD on airport and using JRiver, should be in business, for all my hdmi screen. i install netflix, and voilà
  13. ok thanks so it is futur, but it is only ok for now
  14. http://shop.lenovo.com/il/en/desktops/ideacentre/stick-300/ i am looking foward to buy this to replace all my music server, but here in canada, still not available? Anyone try it, or see it or test it, please provide infos, thanks regards
  15. Ok thanks, this is what i have done, but on airport, i have put my hardrive on airport and it mess it up, by doubling my files... regards Also utility disk, changed on captain, more friendly user, less usable...
  16. Good Day, Help needed i am trying to put an hardrive on airport and than pointing itunes to the airport so i could centralise everything. But, itune start and then stop and there's only few song that are transfered to the central drive. Any clues or trick to transfer everything in one shot? a software or something else? regards
  17. Ayre arrived last week, resolve all problem and it is only first eddition, with no upgraded! Fantastic DAC and simple to use
  18. Ok done, with bitperfect, put everything at 44/16 (Red Book) and let the dac to the homework! thanks!
  19. http://bitperfectsound.blogspot.ca/p/manual.html this being said, this help me, but still, i have question about this? http://www.ayre.com/usb-dac-apple.htm in the section, going beyong 96?
  20. So to my original Question, why i don't see the 16 depth, and see only the 24 and the 32 in midi set up, is irrelevant, because itunes don't care and will play music 44/16 anyhow. Second question, using the midi set-up and adjusting to 384/32 is also irrelevant, even if the dac show 384 bitrates, in fac it will be 44/16. And midi set up or pure music, it is the same thing, except puremusic bypass itunes digital volume to play direct data to the dac. My goal was to sent best data to dac and the dac do the job, for now, i can't tell what set play best, but only the one that produce listening fatigue, after 2 hours. So far, no fatigue 44.1, 384, 88.2 in 24 depth. the rest well, still experimenting. Two software to test -Bitperfect -Pure music Still if midi, don't do nothing about the original source, why dac read and show 384 when midi setup 384? Does the macmini is oversampling or doing the math to produce those data? regards
  21. Well, it is because of them, i have started to questionning my set up. I have upload the trial version and read on there website and now i am questionning if i go with purchasing the software or not? Since i want to use my macmini headless, i am not sure of the result, since my mac doesn't show 16 depth... For now, still investigate and will contact them, thanks for pointing that out
  22. Ok, since i install the dac, the only depth i see is 24 and 32, no more 16 depth, and i don't know if i should use 24 or 32? or what to do to get the 16depth again(macmini)? Also, i could place the midi to 384, that done, will have the macmini convert all file before sending them to the dac? is it good or bad? not bit perfect, am i right? I have read(Ayre and puremusic) on bit perfect, set up, and dedicated my usb in macmini(as described by Ayre) to be stand alone with the dac high speed USB and did so for the hardrive and it improved the sound a lot (more softness and less harsch). Now i am trying to find the best sample rate and depth for the dac. I have try to set up to the original red book 16 depth and 44khz sample rate (as prescribed by Ayre, but no 16depth anymore). I have read that 88.2khz or 352khz sample rate is best (puremusic) set up for red book, but since it is the macmini who do the math, not the dac, is it a good thing, and also i have to chose between 24 or 32 depth, no more 16 depth (that part, i don't understand). I have try puremusic, who pretend to upgraded the sound to 384 but recommanded for redbook CD ripping, to be in 88khz or 352 for better sound. Also enhanced software: bitperfect or puremusic and what is your best recommanded setup for those software? and macmini setup using those software? Thanks for anyhelp you could provide! I know i should stay with my lp's but i didn't so now new gear, new problem to be solved!
  23. Good Evening, i need your help guys, i have purchased a Teac DAC the ud501 and when i go to the midi interface, all i see is 44 to 384 rate and 24 bit or 32. Since i have mostly red book stuf in my librairie, what will be the proper set-up. i usualy, use 44/16, but 16 is not available anymore with the teac. So should i go to the roof with 384 or stay at 44/24 or 44/32? Also i am plannig to go Ayre QB-9, will it be a good choice or a mistake? if i listen mostly redbook or itunes purchases? Any help/infos is welcome Regards PS, if i'm in the wrong section, please indicate, where should i post my question?
  24. Ben ben la la, fa valoir qu'on m'explique...
