  1. Hey guys thanks for your responses. I thought this was a little deeper than what I figured out. It seems whomever hooked it up probably my father ran short on cables and did a mono out and then split one cord with a "V" connector to try to recreate stereo. Otherwise I figured it out a while ago when this topic wasn't being replied on. So thanks for you input, by the way Band Of Brothers sounded fantastic on the Harman Kardon in Logic 7 mode. HAHA Thanks again guys, Jason
  2. Hey I was wondering if you guys could check this site out and see if its ligit. They seem pretty cheap than other dishes, and I was searching to see if it was first time customers or not. http://www.thesatelliteguy.com/ They seem very low... i mean $50 for RCA w/ optical out. You guys would know more than me. Lemme know what you find. Jason
  3. Hey Well, reading mostly in the Baord and not much posting I hear great things with the Denon/Klipsch or Yamaha/Klipsch setups. Although I don't see much reconition to Harman Kardon on the board at all. I don't know if many people are byest towards the yamies and denons, or that people just haven't taken a look at the Harman Kardon receivers. I owned the cheapest model, the AVR-110. Don't be fooled by the low bandwith ratings that Harman Kardon gives to the amp. Harman Kardon has some nice features but they also lack some too. No DSP modes, just a few standard ones like 5ch audio, but the DSP modes provided on receivers are still very questionable. One of the nice features is 192kHz/24-Bit Crystal chip, which most receivers don't feature but HK does. Hopefully this chip will have its advantages in future audio. Other than that you can't go wrong with Denon or Yamaha. Have fun searching... Jason
  4. DD, I have stereo out from the dish and using the left and right analog channels directly into the Harman Kardon receiver. I personally cannot think of anything that could be limitling me from only hearing the center channel. I have a cheapo Aiwa that has 5 crumy speakers and Dolby Prologic and it plays all the speakers from the Sat. Dish and from the PS2 all from highbandwith analog cables. I really ran out of solutions and I am hoping you guys on the board can think of some ideas. Otherwise I'm going to try to get to Harman Kardon support and see what they say. Anyone else have ideas please lemme know. And also with the Directv receivers (Sorry Keith but Directv is the way to go) Which brand seems to be the best. I like the RCA, and I now hear the Hughes brand is really good for their prices, and I am very disappointed with the two sony models (SAT-B/Axx). I would not recommend them to anyone unless they find a real deal on them.. Thanks again, Jason
  5. Well, I have the Directv analog ouputs going directly to the receiver, nothing between the two. The speakers all play, but definately not like they should, or in which Dolby Labs claim they should. I mean just tonight I watched Die Hard on the FX network, and I'm almost positive they broadcast In dolby surround, and yet again i didn't hear a whisper form the rears and barely anything from the fronts, just mostly center, which still sounds better then the junky sony tv-speakers, but not what dolby is claiming. Now I am wondering if it might be the old Dish I have, but yet should still be Pro-logic compatable. Unfortanltly I don't have a phantom mode, just 3ch and Prologic. I do have Logic7 which is 5.1 reproduction from a 2ch source but yet that still doesn't play much at all... Otherwise I don't have a clue... Jason
  6. Help!?!?... I guess it has been about a month or so since I have had my home theater setup. Although it isn't the best I was expecting a little better performance from the setup. Without further delay my setup: Harman Kardon AVR-110 with the Klipsch Quintet fronts, center, rears. Without a doubt I love the Klipsch speakers during DD & DTS movies, but whenever I turn pro-logic mode on when watching normal programming, barely anything comes out of the Right & Left speakers, let alone nothing from the rears. It seems the only thing playing is the center. I understand that normal broadcasts aren't always encoded in Dolby Prologic, but not even much above a slight whisper comes of anything but the center when playing a movie from HBO/Cinemax/Showtime. To me something seems to be wrong. I bought the HK receiver specifically for the ability to recreate good sound from a 2ch source. I am running just high bandwidth Monster cables from the Satellite Dish to the receiver. So if please ask any questions about the setup. The receiver is properly set and it doesn't seem to be a minor detail such as me not having any rear speakers selected in the Prologic mode. Also I was looking at getting a new Sat. dish because this RCA (forget which model) which is 4 yrs old, seems to be going bad. Shows distorted lettering in menus and the remote is going bad and I'm also looking at getting optical out from the dish. They seem to be dropping in price. I would love recommendations and great prices if anyone else has any especially names to look at because I bought a Sony Sat. receiver for my bedroom and I am very disappointed with the menus and the picture. Its worse than the 4-yr old RCA we have downstairs. Thanks a lot for your help, one of the most influential and helpful forums I have ever been apart of. Ask any questions at all cause i will stay posted!!! Jason
  7. Well, I have the AVR-110, DTS/DD/5ch stereo/etc. all work with the surrounds. For some reason Pro Logic and the Logic 7 mode wont use the rears. Some sound comes out but it is nowhere near as loud as it should be; only a slight whisper comes out, even with the extra decibles increased to the two rears. I am using a 4yr old RCA DirecTV sat. which I truely love, although I don't have any optical out, so its all analog RCA jacks into the receiver. I usually watch Movies off HBO/Showtime/Cinemax and they pretty much should all me encoded in Dolby Surround. Also heres a link for the reciever HK AVR-110 Anything plz let me know. I want to get this fixed Thanks, JPK
  8. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I got a decent entry-level receiver (Harman Kardon AVR-110) and everything sounds great, well except music on my quintets, which knew what I was getting into when I bought them. But when I watch a movie on my DirecTV dish using analog out and use Pro-logic, or Logic-7 Cinema mode (Logic-7 is Harman Kardon's 5.1 Reproduction from a 2ch source) I barely hear a whisper from the surrounds. This is even when the rear channels are +10 decibels. I just sent the message to HK, but I figured I would ask the masters for a better opinion. Just for info. I have quintet set w/o sub and HK AVR-110 receiver and RCA Dish with analog out. Thanks, JPK

  10. Hello again... I'm getting this loud quick rip noise coming out of my speakers when I turn on dolby digital or DTS. Its when I turn on my DVD player and it plays the disc (The actual Movie, not the intro/menu) I have never heard this in my life... I dunno where its coming from beaucse almost all my components are under 1 year old. Im using JVC 701bk DVD player with DolbyD decoder (Dolby & DTS out, Harman Kardon AVR 110 Receiver, and Klip Quintets set, no sub. Never heard this before and I hope it isn't serious, and thanks JPK
  11. Hey to much of this Boards dismay, I have personally heard the Bose Wave Radio and I think its pretty darn good. A friend of mine has it, now of course this can't do HT reproduction but that little thing sings pretty decently. I just wish that they wouldn't charge so much because at that price it sure isn't worth it. Quintets... awesome for the cash and for a introduction into HT. Music; take it a step up a notch and go for Synergy 6. Quintets can't match the frequency for music. If u go with Quintets get a nice subwoofer because that sure is going to be doing a lot of work. JPK
  12. Well I have an opinon as most people do, but I say SACD is better, well because Sony does their research right, although DVD-Audio wil proably win out because the PLayers already exist at a lower price and incorportate much easier into DVD Players. Until Sony gets backing from other companies (which I don't think they do) DVD-Audio will probably win in the long run. If I am wrong in anything I stated correct me.. JPK
  13. Well Decibel Man, I thank you for your help and for your information I already bought The H/K AVR 110 out of a high recommendation by friend and also Audioreview.com which I encourage anyone to check it out. I'm unsure because I can't remember if the H/K has a separate 5ch DSP or if it was only Logic7 music. They have 2 setting Logic 7 Music and cinemia. I need a sub now. Still undecided but KSW-12 looks nice enough but I want to look deeper into it. I don't think it has HDCD decoding but I don't think it will take off..Thats it... Thanks again JPK
  14. talktoKeith you Told me to Post where I live... why you ask I don't know. But it is Glenmoore PA Zip - 19343. If you need anything else let me know at somperson@aol.com. I'm looking to get a open box deal at Circuit City if I can, otherwise I'll look to buy it online. Just for your info I have 4 quintets Mounted up on the walls as Fronts and Rears and I have a friend with a matching center which he doesn't use. I will probably buy that from him to match the soundstage as dougdrake told me to. I'm looking at a Polk, Velodyne, Klipsch (of course, or Infinity, or any other brands recommended. I'm open to anything and the sub is very important to me to complete the low frequency. I guess that's it anything else post it or e-mail and I will fill anyone in.. You guys are fantastic... JPK
  15. Well guys I'm glad I am making the right choices here, but just to make sure Does 5ch stereo play the sub and all the speakers because Denon nor HK lists them from what I could read. I want to make sure because i think we will be playing a good amount of music and I need that sub for pick up for the Quintets. So basically the 192/24 bit would be worthless unless heading towards DVDa or SACD. Then would any reciever weigh out the other because the 192/24 bit wouldn't matter...? JPK
