  1. RF-52II, RC-52II in front with the new -41II heights. Surrounds are RB-51II. Thanks! It's a modest setup by the standards of this board and AVS, but oh man am I enjoying it!
  2. Latest update to my setup: I recently acquired two RB-51II (thanks robc1976, and put them in service as my surrounds (out of the photos). Then I moved the RB-41II that I was formerly using as surrounds and turned them into heights/presence speakers for my Yamaha AVR's DSP modes. I've run it this way for a few days, and although I'm not sure I prefer it to a proper 7.1 discrete setup, but my room just doesn't allow for that since we sit up against a back wall. It is, however, nice to use the "Dialogue Lift" function to raise the soundstage just a bit, as my screen is technically a bit too high
  3. Hey all - I currently operate this in a 5.1 setup: L/R: RF-52 II C: RC-52 II SL/SR: RB-41 II I'm about to add two RB-51 II, just for kicks, though probably in a "heights" configuration rather than classic sides & rears, per room and WAF considerations. My super-simple question: If it were you, would you upgrade the surrounds to RB-51 II and move the -41II to the heights, or keep the -41IIs as surrounds and use the 51s up front, keeping the whole front stage with 5" driver sizes? I would presume that with AVR level trimming, the difference will end up being inconsequential, but I thought I'd ask.
  4. To risk taking the thread off topic -- while we're chatting about subs here -- little help? Even though my current speakers are likely a bit undersized for my room, I'd like to make the sub as appropriate to the room as I can. My HT area is in one half of a rather large room (~28'x14'x8') that opens to a kitchen as well. So say 4000 cu ft. Current setup is 2x RF-52II, RC-52II, 2x RB-41II. My current BIC v1220 is pretty puny and muddy. 90% HT/TV/Gaming, 10% music. Here's a dupe of my photo from pg 233: After a bunch of window-shopping, I figure these are my favorite options: Preferred $500-600 budget, shipped: HSU VTF-2 Mk3 - $560 Epik Legend - $570 Rythmik FV12 - $590 Emo X-Ref 12 - $629 Budget-stretchers: HSU VTF-3 Mk4 - $800 SVS PB12-NSD - $769 SVS PC12-NSD - $749 Thoughts? As enticing as it is, I think I need to pull myself away from the priciest one on the shortlist, the VTF-3 Mk 4. For that $800 I could get the smaller HSU and expand to 7.1 with a pair of RB-51II. Hmm....
  5. Stephen - Very nice. I've had the PC-12-NSD on my short list for awhile (haven't pulled the trigger yet). Your photos really emphasize what I hadn't even really considered before -- the PC12 is nearly the same height as my RF-52II fronts. Might look a little silly, depending on where I put it. Maybe I'm upgrading out of order? :-) - Jerrod
  6. I'd considered more, and may still do it. This is a wide double-room, though, and the adjacent area immediately behind the tan couch (at left) is our dining area. A line has to be drawn, but where is still under debate. :-)
  7. The upgrade madness continues! This weekend's work was mostly cosmetic, but it's made a huge difference. A bit of green on the walls makes the room look so much more elegant, and looks great against those drivers (I think I'll leave the grills off now). I also installed an infrared dimmer switch for the ceiling lighting and rigged it into my Harmony remote. Press "Watch TV or Watch Blu-Ray" and the lights turn off. Press pause, and the lights ramp back up half way. Press Play to resume, and the lights drop again. Turn the system off, and the lights come back full on. So sweet. :-)
  8. So... Only about 3 weeks ago I overhauled my audio system (RF52II, RC52II, RB41II, Bic V1220, Yamaha V667). More detail a couple pages back. A couple days ago, after enjoying these 3 weeks of audio bliss paired with a 50" plasma, I stumble upon a 92" fixed-frame projector screen on my local Craigslist for dirt cheap. I jump on it, and then rather spontaneously decide to buy something with which to shine some light on it. That ended up being an Epson 8350. So, less than a month in, I've ballooned my budget to 3 or 4 times its original size (I was going to get an HTIB before getting the Reference setup), and turned what was to be a modest audio system purchase into a comprehensive high-quality home theater buildup. Oh man, I really need to stop reading these forums (and AVS) and enjoy what I have. :-)
  9. So... everything is here now and installed. As requested, here's a photo of the front setup. These may not be as massive as some of the enthusiast setups here, but WOW - for me, this entry-level Reference-line setup is just a striking, incredible upgrade. I've got the pair of RB-41s on simple Sanus stands in the back. Just awesome. You may notice that I couldn't resist pushing my budget further and ended up getting a sub. I found a BIC V1220 on Craigslist for $100, and it seems to be serving the setup well. I'm busy blitzing through great audio scenes from some good-quality Blu-rays (Avatar, Transformers, Inception, etc.) and will listen to a bit of the Dave Matthews Blu-ray next. I'm thrilled after these first few hours, but the best part is that I have years and years to keep enjoying it all. Thanks again, forum.
  10. So excited: I've been plugging along happily for a couple years with a 50" Samsung plasma, blu-rays, Dish, and a 360, but have heretofore largely ignored the audio side of things. No longer. I've finally upgraded beyond my using my laughable college-era Altec Lansing ACS641 4.1 computer setup as "home theater" speakers to something I expect to be truly wonderful: Fronts: 2x RF-52II Center: RC-52 II Surround: 2x RB-41 II Amp: Yamaha RX-V667 Got it all from various sources for a pretty good (?) overall price of $1250. For now, I'm (over!)spent, and will have to be satisfied on the low end with my old Altec sub (200W, 2x6.5") until the tide passes. In any case, I'm sure this will be *orders of magnitude* better than what I had before, and last me for *many* years to come (I promised my wife). I can't wait to hear it all together. I have the amp and the center waiting patiently... Everything else arrives early next week. Thanks to the forum for all the lurker-bait. You'll be hearing from me more soon (and I'm sure I'll be spending more as well.) :-)
