  1. The rs 52's are a great choice. I heard the 42's, 41's, and 52's. The 52's are alot better IMO. More sound out of them. The sub will be fine. Better than most klipsch. To get more performance out of a klipsch you'll need to drop ALOT of cash on a klipsch to get top notch performance.
  2. Sorry I didnt see how big your room was. You could still go with the rf62's and put the savings towards a better sub. The tweets are the same on the 82's and 62's. If your crossing them over at the THX reccomended 80 hz then it won't matter which you have. Although the 62's are for sale on this forum for $550 from Nezff and someone is selling a set of 82's for $800. Not sure what your local price is. If money is tight I suggest elemental designs. They offer alot of boom for the money. And you'll need slot of boom in a room that big. Of course checking the used market can be great too if your patient.
  3. I agree it does seem like they will be getting more on for sale. However usually when something goes on clearance as the umc was then it's at the end of it's life span. Who knows. Could ask big Dan I guess.
  4. The umc is no longer for sale at emotiva.
  5. Well... This really depends on a couple factors. How big is your room and how loud do you need your speakers to play? The RF series are the better speaker... But if you have a smallish room and don't need a ton of volume then the kf's will be great. The RF will have less distortion at higher volumes. If your room Is big and or you need them to go quite loud then you'll be happier with the rf's. I have owned the 62ii's and 82's. Also the kf precursor the f-2 and f-3's. the RF 62's and rf82's are almost exactly the same. If I didn't own a sub I would go for the 82's. But if you are using a sub and crossing your mains at 70-80hz anyway then you won't notice a difference between the 62's and 82's. For home theatre with a sub I prefer the 62's based on size and price. But again if your just doing 2 channel stereo with no sub then you'll want the larger drivers on the 82's. That also applies to the kf's but as I said before the kf's will start to distort before the RF series.
  6. I'm picking up your sarcasm. I agree with subxero that sound is always subjective.... But the noise coming from my rf7ii's with the XPA-5 hooked up is not. As I said my friend runs the rf82's with a upa-5 with great results. His setup sounds awesome.
  7. Well if you look enough on the klipsch and emo forum you'll find many people (subxero comes to mind) that had noise issues with the XPA-5 and the rf7ii's. In the end I decided the noise bothered me enough to sell. I purchased the onkyo amps after and decided I actually like the sound better. It's not night and day but I do prefer it. My friend uses a upa-5 with the HT rc-180 and it works fine. He uses rf82's. The only problem I ever had with the HT rc-180 is a blown channel. However I did that myself while moving it from the HT to bedroom and reconnecting to a hot channel. Onkyo fixed it under warranty though.
  8. No worries. Didnt take it that way. I don't have any experience with marantz or Denon. The next time I need an avr I'll be looking at those brands just to try to open my experience. I love my onkyo but never having listened to the others I may not know what I'm missing. I can say that I prefer onkyo to emotiva with the rf7ii speakers.
  9. You need to get the two fronts speakers otherwise you'll only get part of the sound. The rf7ii's are the speakers that go with your rc-64ii.
  10. +1 on posting in home theatre. There are a couple recent threads on the exact subject matter. Many people running the same speakers as you have offered opinions as well.
  11. Funny I used to have the same exact avr as you. Let me tell you something.... I have used 4-5 other avr's since trying to figure out what I liked best (also had the XPA-5), and until I got the 3008 (with audyssey xt32) none of them sounded any different. I have used the 3007, 709, 608, 509, HT rc-180, and recently a pioneer 1121 (never used this with the XPA-5). Also dumping my XPA-5 was an improvement IMO.... Now I have all onkyo power.
  12. I showed your post to my wife. She just shook her head up and down in agreement and said. "I don't know how you can even hear a difference at such loud volumes, that thing shakes the house." I laughed thinking to myself, wait till I get the new amp.....
  13. What's your sub budget? Where are you hoping to place the sub? Home theatre use only or music too? Exactly how big is your space? You said one part is open to another room so your going to lose something there.... How big is that space?
  14. Just ordered up the Dayton Spa500. I'll see if the increased power brings the THT to life. If I can't get good placement in the basement I'll try it in the master bedroom. If I have to move to bedroom I may look into a wireless sub signal. Anyone use one?
  15. If you can stretch your budget a tiny bit..... Onkyo 709 from accessories4less.com $499 I think. It gives you preouts for adding an amp in the future..... (also makes it easier to sell should u want to upgrade). Plenty of power and audyssey multi eq XT. Of course it has internet radio and iPod connectability. runs cool as well.
  16. Not sure how much it will change your accoutics but it won't hurt. Anytime you can kill echos in your room should be beneficial.
  17. There is a guy on AVS forum that sells a BD compilation disk. It has 3 menu's 1 each for LFE, surround, and visual. There are like 10 or so movies clips in each section. Very cool for showing off your system.
  18. Probably not what you want to hear but the rc-62 is in a differnt league than the rc-52 IMO. I have owned both and while the rc-52 didn't suck it just didn't have the presence of the rc-62. As for the floor standers..... I have owned both the rf-62 and the rf-82. I honestly could not hear a difference between the 2 sets. If you do alot of music listening with no sub and you need the extra bass that the 82's can provide than go with them. But for home theatre when your crossing your mains at 70-80hz anyway and using a sub you won't hear a difference. They even have the same tweeter. As for the sub.... to me this is your 2nd most important speaker for home theatre (1st being the center channel). This does not have to be matched in anyway to the rest of your speakers. Figure out your budget and look at the big ID (internet direct) companies and buy the sub that most suits your physical size requirments and your output requirments. The big ID sub companies are: 1. Elemental designs (most bang for buck for HT sub IMO) 2. SVS (never heard one of theirs but their reviews are off the charts) 3. Epik (again no experience but also get great reviews) 4. Emotiva (smaller subs for the most part) 5. HSU 6. Rythmik Check out those companies before settling on a Klipsch sub. Im not saying Klipsch subs are not good... but you just have to pay more to get the kind of performance that the ID companies can get you.
  19. Yeah I know [:$] Ill get one soon. I won't have anytime to work on this until after the 28th or 29th. Ill grab one then and check my power. I should have bought a multimeter and a spl meter a long time ago
  20. Well the only way to be sure the driver is sealed 100% is probably to add a bead of silicone around the entire driver. The material on mine appears to be hot glue. Maybe Gigbyt can offer some assistance on that since he built it.
  21. Obviously adding and xpa-5 is not gonna hurt anything except your wallet. It's a nice amp and not a bad price either. However if your only doing 5.1 then the xpa-3 would give you 200 watts to the front stage and your avr would give you 140 watts to your surrounds. I wouldn't call it overkill...... but you'll never need all that power. I would try listening to your system first before adding and amp. Then you can decide for yourself. In my space I don't notice a difference between my xpa-5 (sold it) and just my Onkyo amps.
  22. Honestly your receiver is enough to drive those speakers. Unless your room is huge and you need to play them very loud then you won't need an external amp. If you decide you want an external amp anyway then the emotiva is as straightforward as you get. No gain control.... only a power button. Super easy.
  23. Thx alot t-man. Ill play around with it next week and see what improvments I can make if any.
  24. I opened the access port up today. It's all wired up correctly. Just realized how crappy this photo is....however its wired to a 4 ohm load Everything seems ok....Im thinking it's just a placement issue at this point.
