  1. As everyone would say it is a matter of opinion. I demoed the SF-1 for a bit at the dealers and compared it to the SF-2, I bought the SF-2s. They have a fuller sound. Listening to them back to back there was a definite difference. I felt that the price difference was woth it an the twos are only a couple inches taller. I would say go with the SF-2, the extra cost is money well spent.
  2. I am considering getting a new reciever, currently I have a Denon AVR-1700 that I am very happy with. The new 6.1 formats out intrigue me though. The Denon AVR-3801 looks pretty good to me. I was wondering how any owners felt about theirs, has anyone had any problems with it? I really love the Denon I have now. Would it be to powerful to go with my speakers: Klipsch SF-2, SB-2, SC-1? How about the Klipsch KSB 1.1 that are sitting on the shelf now that I would use for back surrounds? Any opinions would be appreciated. I use my system with both music and home theater. The DTS Neo 6 sounds pretty interesting. I have yet to demo one, was curious if it would be to much for what I already have. Mains: Klipsch SF-2 Center: Klipsch SC-1 Surrounds: Klipsch SB-2 Subwoofer: Boston Acoustics PV-600 Reciever: Denon AVR-1700 CD Player: Denon DCM-370 DVD Player: Sony DVP-S360 MiniDisc: Sony MDS-JB940 VCR: Sony SLV-790HF
  3. I own a Denon reciever and absouletly love it, it is the avr-1700 which is a couple years old, still has dolby digital though. I know that the Denon will play through the sub line out on 5 channel stereo (a mode that i enjoy for music). As far as the DAC go, SACD and DVD-Audio are the only things that run at those high a rates. DVD-Audio, and soon SACD, use the 6 channel inputs which are never put into a digital domain once in the reciever. So it doesn't even use the DAC for those. The only thing right now that can utilize a digital in is your usual CD, MD, etc. and DVD which runs at 96kHz. The analog inputs all have to run through analog to digital converters before the can be processed and go through the DACs. The ADCs in both recievers are probably 16 bit/44.1kHz. So anything using analog is not going to be able to benefit fromt he 192 DACs. Either way your going to get a good product, my biased opinion is the Denon. Look at the amount of inputs and other features, like usability. Try both out and check and see which sound you like better. That is the real test. Good luck.
  4. Not to start a huge argument but can anyone fill me in on whether DVD-Audio is going to be practical (are more titles ever going to be available?) or is SACD going to be the one that goes big? Which one actually sounds better? 5. I currently have a boston pv600 subwoofer. It has a 120 watt downfiring 10 inch woofer. I really like it for the most part. I would like to get a little louder and deeper sound though. I was thinking about steping up to the pv800 which has a 300 watt downfiring 12. I have read though that the pv800 is louder, but it doesn't get much lower and you sacrifice some of the tightness of the smaller 10 in the pv600. I haven't had a chance to demo the pv800 yet. Then someone suggested that I get another pv600 to compliment the one that I have got. My question lies in this: If I were to get another pv600 how would I position the two of them, opposite sides of the room? Also, would the combination audibly sound deeper? And how would I wire it, a splitter out of the subwoofer line out? If I use a splitter would the signal strength be cut in half requireing me to up the volume on the subs amps? I would want to use the sub out to maintain my 5.1 channel capability. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I use my system for both music and movies, mostly music though. I've been thinking about something like that, leaning heavily toward SACD.
