  1. No. I bought some guns instead. I've got about $4k to go now
  2. I play on 360 with a Home Theater in a Box and a car subwoofer... Saving up for the RF7 5.1 set from the Klipsch website. $2K more to go and it's mine!
  3. The tanks are also a huge tactical disadvantage. You can't hear enemy footsteps! I really wish I could get a good team that uses effeceint tactics. Rambo action is failure in full. This game really craves a good sound system. I need a sensitive DRC. Yes, it's blasphemy for sound quality, but footsteps compressed to 0 db would be tactically awesome. Those stupid Turtle Beach headsets have ruined FPS games, the inverse of TV speaker usage.
  4. I need your address so I can go over there and give you a hug. I have switched all the way to vinyl. I don't mind WAV's. CD's, I look down on CD's as much as I look down on MP3. I got a really compressed version of Rush-Powerwindows that's imposible to listen to with headphones since it sounds really loud. There aren't any artifacts of poor compression technique, but every sound is near the 0db mark for the whole album. On speakers, it's a rockfest, but It doesn't sound as special as a snap-crackle-and-pop tape from '85. It's missing something. I bought some "audiophile" CD's that do rock, but they're not from any of the big recording companies. I'd buy a lot more vinyl, but right now, at $40, that's a bit much for a college student. I'm not a believer in blind 44khz sampling though. A little bit of phase timing and you lose it all. My best Jam session was at an audio store that said "Bring Your Records." They had a pay for play rule that was the cheapest way I ever got the grace of K-Horns. I got my $ worth by playing through Master of Puppets on DMM vinyl, along with some Hendrix and some Christmas With Glen Campbell.
  5. Metallica - "Saint Anger" is my top choice, accompanied with Korn, or System of a Down. If you like bass, there's 1995 style rave/jungle music, like LTJ Bukem sets. Techstep such as Dom & Roland is intense for sprinting. . Dubstep works as well. The first result on YouTube titled "Whoa-B - Ten Minute Dubstep mix" is a bass workout. Anything else goes out of workout and into rockout. Hey, it's burning calories right?
  6. Well, I've had this game for the better part of three months and have compared it to games of the past. So, I'll review it with audio in mind. Explosions: Thunderous with a strong sense of reverberation, the most compared to any game of the past. Grenades aren't the stout thud like in real life. The pop of a grenade launcher is crisp, with a sense of a wall falling upon impact. Rocket launchers need a more violent wooshing sound like from Call of Duty 4. Gunshots: The pistols sound exactly like they really should. The sniper rifles sound almost real, but they need a little more of that "sack of sand slamming the ground" sound. More of a sharp crack is needed. Brass hitting the wooden floors is a nice note, whenever the XBOX decides to include it. Assault rifles aren't as crisp as they should be when heard at a distance, but your own rifle does sound rather real. Gun Action : The scraping sound of a parkerized magazine going into a Beretta M9 is very satisfying. The magazines hit the floor with a nice Click-Clackety-clock, while the spring rattles inside the magazine. The M24 sniper rifle sounds loose and hollow compared to the real rifle which doesn't really make very many sounds relevant to its bolt action. The shotguns sound like a recording of a long barrel 20ga fired at open range conditions, not like the 18" barreled 12ga boomsticks within a small house as the game tries to depict. Vehicles: Good sound from tanks. Other vehicles such as ATV's, Hummer's, and helicopters don't sound like a proper simulation, but they shure come close. Not enough metallic ringing sounds. Acoustic realism: Open range conditions are sterile and show the pure sound of the rifle being fired. Gunfire near buildings does have some reverb, but the wrong kind. It needs more alley tin can effect. Indoor firing sounds are good. Any more would be nitpicking. material Realism: You can't shoot through walls with a high powered rifle. Many guns fire the same ammunition, but do the wrong amount of damage. A few small caliber guns are listed as equivalent as drastically larger caliber guns. A 50BMG is listed as having slightly less damage compared to a shotgun. This irritates many firearms enthusiasts including myself. Odd notes: The houses are vacant with no furniture. Some of the buildings with larger rooms should come equipped with Khorns to keep campers entertaines. Disappointments: You can't shoot through wooden walls with a high powered rifle. The explosions are all thunder. Real ones are a crisp pounding sound, like a thick calculus book slapping a desk, in chorus with a fist hitting a hollow wall. The latency is gonna make you grind your teeth.
  7. Breakage - Together is a good one. It's from a Genre called Dubstep. You said you wanted continuous low Bass, right?
  8. Yamaha and Onkyo are pretty good. Yamaha makes a 5.1 receiver called the RXV367. What's your price point? Those yamahas will do full range for the front two channels, and they're only $250 - $375. Since you have six speakers, I'm at a loss as to how you're gonna hook them up. You either end up with two speakers sharing an output, or shore a center speaker.
  9. Ok. That adds some confidence. I was just afraid that they had to be at least 5 feet away. A buddy of mine has these gigantic Cerwin Vegas with 2 15" woofers, and they were flush with the wall. They sounded like car subwoofers until we moved them about three feet away from the wall. Then they just sounded like PA speakers that were all bass and no highs. I'm siding with that pi/4 arrangement because on some of my games, they have a setting were you choose from the speakers being placed on an axis though both sohoulders, or on the 45-degree-behind-you placement. Thanks!
  10. I'm looking at having full range sound for every channel of 5.1 or at least 30Hz and up. I wanted 20-20Khz for every channel, but only muddy sounding Cerwin Vegas will give you that. So here's my plan. Onkyo TXSR308 receiver, RF7's up front, RF82's in the back, where there is a 45 degree angle between me and the RF82's. My angle to the RF7 should be 30 degrees, such that my face to the wall distance is Dsin(60) and the distance from me to the side wall is Dcos(60). The room dimensions are 13x21x8 in feet. The system will use the length of the room such that the TV is in the center of a short side. The RF7's will be biased to the corners. Here are my questions. Since the RF series have the port on the back of the speaker, how far from the wall should the speaker be? Would I be better off getting two pairs of F30's if the RF series have to be really far from the wall. I look at F30's because the Port is on the front.
  11. The explosions in this game are the best out of any game I have ever played. Far better than Call of Duty. The mechnical sounds of the guns are nicely audible. Otherwise, It's like Call of Duty, with bigger maps and better graphics.
  12. That game is FANTASTIC! It's all I play since I'm a car guy. I just wish the car sounds were more cacaphonous like the real thing. What's your Favoirte Track? My favorite is Nurburgring Nordschleife, with a best time of 6:08
