  1. Any one knowwhat the VA rating of the iFi toroidal transformer? Wanting to change the "softstart" circuit .
  2. Yes, you will need the docking station for it to work
  3. Why not get a car amplifier in replace instead?
  4. My iFi volume control is not working properly,i have to turn the knob "a few roundssss" before the volume could be increase / decrease. my is also 230V. What i did was i acutally ground the panel. i was actually thinking of using a EMI / EMC filter (3 pin) to improve the audio quality.
  5. Regarding the so call "resistor, could it be Class X capacitor, which is acutally a “across-the-line” Line Filter Capacitors. Anyone trying replacing the 2 pins inlet with an IEC line fillter before?
  6. Please keep us update on your modification, especially since you replace the 25V 4700uF to a 6800uF. Not really sure if suck big capacitor helps since it used for the docking statio
  7. All the values look correct to me. Found a bunch of 63 volt cap photos here. Many similar but nothing exact. http://www.sportslinkup.com/shop/0-Capacitor-63v-1.html What makes you think they need replaced? Electrolitic capacitors built in the early to mid 2000 range are always suspect, but these? I fear you may be just making work for yourself. I could be wrong. Thank dbert. I'm replacing these capacitors to improve the sound quailty. But I must say it difficult to get good capacitor with the right pitch size. For those interested: - 104J63 may be replaced with WIMA MKP2 or Kemet PHE426 - 272J63 may be replaced with Kemet PHE426 - 474J63 can't find any cap with the same pitch size
  8. Here the photo The values are (correct me if i'm wrong) 10 x 104J63 = 100,000pF 5% 63V 2 x 272J63 = 2700pF 5% 63V 4 x 474J63 = 470,000pF 5 % 63 V As the capacitor pitch = 5mm and the tolerance is 5%, there going to be limited choice of flim capacitor for used.
  9. People out there. Any helps on the above? Are those Metallized Flim capacitors? If YES, any review on WIMA MKP or EVOX RIFA series of flim capacitors?
  10. Any know what are those yellow box things found in the PCB? Looks like Metallized Flim capacitors (Polyester or Polypropylene)
  11. I've finally replaced all the capacitors. Before that only the 5 big capacitors were replaced. All capacitors used were from Nichicon KW series and ES series (for one Bi-Polarized capacitor only) And WOOOOOO!!!!. The sound really open up!!!! Clear and Sweet. BTW, what type of adhesives are you using to hold the capacitors in place? Can the hot glue gun do the job.
  12. For people who are interested to recap the whole board, take note that the 1uF 50V x 1 is a non-polarized capacitor
  13. dbert, when you saystill good? Does that mean your volume control is working fine as well? I need to change all capacitors in order to get the volume control working again
  14. Try Mouser Electronics http://www.mouser.com/ They have full range of Nichicon FW, KW, KG audio capacitors. Need some advise - Anyone trying using a Snap-in Terminal Type capacitor in replace fot the 5 big capacitors? Is the drill hole size big enough?
  15. Good for you dbert!!! Great that your iFI works again!!!. For those who have channel problem (e.g. one working while the other not). You will have to check the condition of the capacitor sandwich inbetween the board. If i not wrong, there a 6 x 470uF 35V. Be careful when desoldering the capacitors. Those soldering pad is horrible!!! (TOO SMALL FOR GOOD CONTACT and might come off easily if not handle with care) Capacitor to use? Panasonic FC series or Nichicon FW series. Not the best money can buy but value for mone
