  1. Don't worry. I was getting the same static after the Walking Dead. It's AMC and that's not the first time I've noticed static after the Walking dead. I've noticed it a couple weeks ago and the week prior. Never during the episode though. Always after. Last night it was really bad though. Always the left speaker.
  2. My location is in the Detroit area, but I am not looking to get a used sub unless it is for another XW-300D. I pretty much am stuck on these brands because of cost. I can get them for around $200 a piece and I doubt there is anything better in that price range.
  3. Hey guys. I am looking to expand in the subwoofer category and I have the opportunity to get great pricing on either of these subs. I currently have a Klipsch XW-300D, which is a great little sub. It is a sealed enclosure which I tend to favor over vented subs(I like fast, clean and tight subs over loud and boomy subs). The Martin Logan is a sealed sub while the Def Tech has the two passive radiators. The Def Tech can go to lower depths, however. I have listened to both subs in big box stores, but you can never really get a great impression from a store since they usually crank them up to obnoxious levels. Whatever sub I get, I will be eventually buying two of them. So, what are your impressions of these subs? I actually would be interested in buying another Klipsch XW-300D but they are long discontinued. Any help would be most appreciated.
  4. I have tried a Bob Carver amp before and I really enjoyed it. It was a very warm and smooth sounding amp that I really enjoyed. I imagine that the Sunfire sounds similar. I bet it rocks for music. I loved my Carver for music, but I did find it too smooth sounding for movies.
  5. Personally, if you are not doing full surround sound yet, I would run these in stereo or turn the center speaker off in your receiver to run a phantom center channel. These speakers will probably image a center channel so well that they will sound better than most actually center channels.
  6. Are you moving your reference to another room?
  7. Update with the Energy Veritas, my upgrade from the W Icon line.
  8. I think that is the BDI Avion II. That is currently one of my favorite stands. I wouldn't have thought that the rc-64 would fit in that center area. Looks great!
  9. I am looking for some guidance and the best and proper way to setup my system so that I am getting the most out of it. Some of you may read that I recently sold my Klipsch W Icon WF-35s(LF extention 41hz) and bought the Energy Veritas 6.3s (LF extention 32hz). I have a Denon 3310(120watts per channel) and three Marantz MA700s(200watts) hooked into the towers and the center channel. So let me give you guys some background on my initial impressions over the past couple months. Before getting involved with the Marantz amps, I of course would run the audyssey on my setup. Sounds great. I would set the towers to small(WF35s) with a crossover at 40hz. Then I would add the MA700s to the towers, and wow! What a difference it made. More powerful bass, more seperation in sound effects. It just feels like it brings you closer to the material. Then I upgraded to the Veritas 6.3. Significantly more bass and a much better midrange than the Icon line. At this time, I only had two Marantz MA700s for the towers, and didn't have the third to run the center channel. Well, I then ran audyssey after about a week of having the new Energy line. The receiver wanted to set the towers and center channel at full range large speakers. I changed them back to small, with the crossover at 40hz. Now, I live in a townhouse, so I can't have too much bass out of respect for the neighbors. After I made those changes, the speakers sounded good, but a bit bloated, so I changed to crossover for the towers to 60hz and now they sound great. Then a couple days ago, I received my third MA700 (thanks to another forum member), and hooked it up to the center channel. I have not run the audyssey again, but man it makes the center sound way better as is. So here are my observations and questions. I know for theater(not 2 channel listening) most of you all have your towers set to small. Does setting the crossover 30hz above what the tower is capable of sound like an effective way to get great performace? The towers seem more detailed like this currently. Observation: When listening to 2 channel music, my towers are set to large/full range without a sub. Before calibration, the Veritas 6.3 sounded wonderful with deep, pressurizing bass. After I ran audyssey, with the towers running at fullrange and hooked into the MA700s, they still sound amazing, but that deep throbbing bass is missing now for music. So here is my question. Do most of you run the calibration again after you add an amp to your system? It seems to me that audyssey has really tamed the amps and they don't have as much impact as they once did when I first hooked them up. Currently, my center channel sounds amazing with the amp hooked up(I did not have the amp hooked into the center channel the last time I ran audyssey). I am worried that if I run audyssey again, it will tame the center channel down. The way everything is setup now is actually ok since I can't have too much bass anyways, but I will be moving into a house in about three months and I will finally be able to watch a movie without having to constantly be on volume control the entire movie. Any comments that you guys make, I guess just let me know what you would do for setup in a house to get the best quality. Thanks again for any advise.
  10. Yeah, so far I am really happy. The first wow moment was when I was listening to acoustic music, and the midrange was bliss on the guitar. Just gave me a huge smile. That smoothness and midrange was what I was looking for. I will probably take the time to sit and listen after the weekend and write up a better review. So far for music, they are superior to my old Icons. Not sure about movies yet. Yeah, they for sure aren't as bright as horns. It's funny. If you go over to the avs forums in the Energy Owners thread, most people were complaining that they were too bright for usual Energy speakers and that there was too much Klipsch influence. This actually comforted me because I didn't want to give up too much high but still get that awesome midrange. When I am at work (Magnolia Best Buy) I find myself cringing away from the brighter speakers lately(Def Techs, Martin Logan) and have been enjoying doing demoes with Energy and Bowers and Wilkins much more. My only consideration after I sold my Klipsch was maybe getting the B&W CM9s(my hands down favorite speaker that Best Buy carries), but even with my employee discount, I would have had to fork over an extra $200 and not be able to get a center channel. As far as amps go, yeah my Denon is a really smooth relaxed sound receiver with sounded great with the Klipsch towers, and the Marantz amps are just a hair brighter than the Denon. To me, Pioneer Elite has the best balance of brightness and detail, and Yamaha and Onkyo tend to be VERY bright sounding amps. Does anyone know of any amps that give you more brightness? Emotiva perhaps?
  11. Finally got my towers. The towers got here unmolested by UPS and look awesome. The center channel hasen't gotten here yet. I really haven't had a chance to really sit and listen or break them in. So far though, compared to my W Icons, they sound much more open with a much smoother midrange. Definitely not as bright though, so I have to get use to that. Just got a couple pics with my phones camera so far. More to come.
  12. Yeah, even though I loved the rosenut, in person, they were really red. To me, they looked better in the pictures. In my home, the red really stuck out. I am actually excited to get the black now. The thing about it though is that everyone makes black speakers. I thought the rosenut was unique. Well, a little too unique in my room to the point where you would go "holy crap that is a huge red speaker!" I did use the center channel for about a week though, and it sounded good. A lot better than the WC-24, which isn't saying much since that center channel is laughable. It has really good off axis sound quality. Man, I can't wait to get these all setup and done with!
  13. Sick to my stomach? Oh yes. Livid? Absolutely. By the way, I saw UPS delivering packages in my area yesterday at like 11AM instead of 3PM like when I have something being delivered. I hate them.
  14. Speaking of UPS messing with me, my Veritas 6.3s arrived. Check them out. Now, the speaker in the first picture was dropped on its corner so hard that the foam base was reduced to powder, and the metal links for the biwire terminal popped off and I am guessing damaged the tweeter by bouncing around in the box. You can see the tweeter in the last picture. I was so annoyed that I didn't even bother to hook them up. Now these were open box clearance, but were zero issues like this in the descriptions(one speaker said that it had light scratches on the back, but instead, it had huge gouges and chunks missing on the back corner of the speaker). On top of that, the girlfriend HATES the rosenute color. Ugg. Well, I am exchanging them for all new 6.3s in piano black now. The only bad thing is that it is going to take at least two weeks to get these shipped back, processed, and then have the new speakers shipped. So I am running two Klipsch computer speakers in the front and running a phantom center channel with them. Veritas impressions in 2-3 weeks!
