  1. You'd be suprised, those little Honda rides get pretty fast, when the build up a V-tech motor. But the most gaudy looking things, with the junk they stick on 'em, Japanese competition stickers, clown exhaust tips, mega-dollar wheels, neon crap, and airfoils. Abosolutly no taste. But like cars, subs can be sleepers or a fancy peice of furniture. Tom's are sleepers, nothing fancy to look at, but they perform great, for the price. Of course you will get the performance out of a piece of fancy furniture sub, It's to be expected for the price of the product. THANX!
  2. Went to the Sony site, I just seen Miles Davis 'Kind of Blue'on SACD multichannel. $22.00 bucks. THANX!
  3. Yeah Tom, I remember a buddy of mine had this kinda beat-up black on black '69 Goat with 400 4-speed back in mid-eighties. We'd pull up to all the poser rides and just SPANK 'em. But they knew they were outgunned when they seen your ride, they didn't know what to think with that beat-up GTO. The only car he backed away from, was my other buddy who had a '67 GTO 428 4 speed. I remember in '90 these high school boys were gonna do a burnout contest. One had a '69 Camaro, the other a '69 Judge 4 speed. The Camaro had a automatic, it'd burn a tire all day long. But I told the guy that the Judge won't do that, unless you hold the brake, your just gonna plant and go. He didn't listen, and the tires spun around once and he planted and went. He wasn't to experienced a driver, obviously. Seen a chick do the same thing with '67 vette roadster 435 horse tri-power 427 back in '73 when I was a kid. Ah, the muscle car memories, Sorry, this grossly off topic! THANX!
  4. The Eico's you have are valve devices. This post was to save confusion from the last post. It seems like I'm writing like the Eico is SS in that post. DOH!
  5. Maybe the fact of leaving Solid State components always powered, keeps Capacitors nice and charged and warmed up to there parameters. Capacitors have Electrolyte(well,Electrolytics)in them, and like batteries, if not charged up they dry out. So a cap that sits on a shelf will dry up and die quicker than a cap thats powered up. So if yer Eico did not have any dead caps when you intially fired it up, then you should be fine. Of course the usual rule of thumb is too change capacitors every 5 or 10 years depending on the quality of the cap or application. (That Eico probably has some wide tolerance capacitors in it, and probably wider do to age, but if it sounds and operates fine, who cares?) What would you use to recap the Eico with, if ever needed? It makes me wonder how all those turn off/on cycles does to solid state components, up to temp, down, up to temp down, it has to contribute to the thermal breakdown process over time with DC circuit parts, Transistors, etc.. Like they say, it takes more power to fire up a light bulb than to leave it on, from the load the switch draws compared to staying powered. (Of course I won't leave the lights on all the time.) Hmmmmm.... Now you got me thinking of this s**t! My two sense.
  6. Well, Thank you Kelly for the many references here. I figured Vinyl would be superior to Digital in this context. Well that's a bummer, the 20bit Sony sounds dead, no SACD version,(Yet) so that leaves vinyl as the choice, unless there is DVDA versions. I'll just try the 20bit version at least to check it out. Boy, I gotta start considering some sort of decent Turntable, the one I have isn't worth using! I have afew Lp's, and even with a cheap junk TT, sometimes the vinyl kicks CD butt. Yes I agree, even the thought of Digital Vinyl does not sound right at all! Then you would consider it just a 12' CD that uses a needle, it's blasphemy! Thanks again for the references! Mike.
  7. Thanks for the tip, Mike, I'll look into this material. THANX!
  8. Man, Deep Purple kicks *** over boring ol' Jazz! Jazz is for Musician Dorks, and Audio Salesmen! Nyuck!Nyuck!Nyuck!Nyuck! No seriously Kelly, you listen to John Coltrane? If you do, can you give some references to some of his material? I always wanted to check this guy out. Sorry, I haven't listened to much Jazz,I want to expand my musical horizion, I guess. THANX!
  9. Darn it, I had a post and It got lost! Mike, I finished one of my Chorus II X-overs. I'll post more Tomorrow. It's late.
  10. What's wrong with Deep Purple!? My momma told me if ya 'ain't got nuthin' nice to say, then keep it to yourself!
  11. I've been rootin' through these Forums trying to find it. I know I seen them, somebody else and I replied to it. They were cool. Which Forum was it in?
  12. P.E. claims that there is no problems from their measurements on the drivers. For what possible general reasons would they not pass through Quality Assurance at Klipsch? Damn nice woofer for P.E.'s price.
  13. Most folks that are complete insane audio purists, usually complain that there is too many Operational amplifiers in a mixing board anyway. But some recordings are way too overprocessed, recorded too loud, or badly engineered. (This is another topic that depends on one's musical taste also.) I like the heavy music, old or new, so it's easy to run into those anomolies as mentioned above. A Jazz fan usually has excellent recordings(Mostly)to chose from, its kinda a part of the music, I guess. Can anyone refer me to some John Coltrane recordings that would sort of generalize his career? If thats possible. I limited to Digital exile, so it would have to be in CD form. I need to get a better TT dammit! THANX!
  14. Are far as audible degrading of the wire? I don't think that you would even notice signal differences being on the floor or wall. As long as you keep the wires from other sources of electrical interference. I would be more concerned of the added length of the cables than electrical interference. THANX!
  15. That's cool! Morbid, But cool! I like them, I think it's a killer idea! And you can bury yourself in them, when you die and have no need for subwoofers! Do you work at a Coffin factory or something? That's great!
  16. What a Gyp! I just get a blank page. Why would they shut it down at night? Yeah! show us building Heritage speakers guys, stick with your roots! WAH!
  17. As long as Super Audo CD players always read Redbook CD's. 'Cause there is no way in hell I'm gonna throw away all my CD's for a $300 SACD player. (Just for SACD's, NOT!) But from what I understand, the current players play Redbooks very well. I'm gonna keep waiting, If Sony so bent on winning this war, then we should see some of the top line stuff really drop in price. Obviously, they are pumping out entry-level combination players at a good price, for competition. While that is great, I still can't buy into combination players/changers. (Look at all the variables to go wrong.) But this is my lame opinion, and should be disregarded if felt so. THANX!
  18. HMMMMM..... You would think these newer units have more quiet transports. But my unit, unless you are right next to it, isn't really noticable, like from the veiwing/sitting position. Any folks in this Forum have any higher end DVD players? Anywhere from over $1500 to $2000 range. And if so, could anyone report that if the transports are noisy too? IMO, they best not! THANX!
  19. Hi Mike! Yamaha MX-1 amp, and CX-1 pre-amp. 440 watt amp with 35 watt pre. Beats the pants off the AX-592 integrated I had, which I swapped for a tabletop multi-meter. I haven't made it to the horn damping part yet, I'm still in the middle of the crossover urgrade. But I'm happy to report the DCR(Resistance)on the new Solen inductor (3.6mH) is .55 ohms. The stock one, (3.5mH) is .59 ohms. This I'm pretty certain means that the woofer circuit will match up real well, with the old one. From what I understand, The DCR is incorporated in some enclosure designs. The close DCR measurements won't make this a problem. THANX!
  20. Man, I hate that when that happens. Kelly, I have visited DIYcable.com, and have visited your website. Nice gear, of course, and nice website design. Good work! Remember, I was asking about a price increase on the Risch filter. (Which is going up by $50.00 BTW.) The reason I leave my units turned off is not the fact of the components themselves, (I have SS equipment, I trust them fine,I don't have any valve gear, wish I did, maybe some day.) it's the fact that I live in a older mobile home with aluminum wiring for the outlets. Out of code and makes me nervous. I have been thinking of dumping the AC circuit in the breaker panel and make a dedicated circuit for the stereo, using copper wire of course. The Air Conditioner's fried, and I live in the Northwest, it isn't hot long enough around here to be a big deal. I'll search AA boards on the subject, I'm curious. I reading posts on the TNT forum last night, some guy was talking about how possibly to build a DIY Audionote Kegen (This could be misspelled)for about 2000 UK. $5000 US? I'm sure you heard of Audionote.(Ultra-Spendy.) Also said that Audionote designs are old WE designs with upgraded parts.(I'm sure its a little more than that.) You ever built a tube amp kit yet? Keep posting topics here, one thing I have learned about audio/tweaks in general is to keep a open mind. And so should others. THANX!
  21. Mobile, You decide to sell your Moondogs yet? Yes folks, there is audible differences in wire, BELIEVE IT OR NOT! I leave my stuff turned off due to safety concerns. (Sh*tty Trailerhouse.) You ever posted this subject on AA?(Leaving gear on.) Curious to what debates that could stir up. Have you tried or receive your JR filter yet? Or were you getting one of these? THANX!
  22. Somebody replied to this post?! WOW! Did your horn driver/drivers happen to be plastic? AWW... I'll just do it, 'aint gonna hurt nuthin'. THANX!
  23. I agree with USparc, DVD's seem to have noisier tracking. This might be a long shot, but you mention the VCR is placed on TOP of the DVD player. Obviously there is no overheating problems, or you would have brought it up. But the two sitting on each other may be causing interactions with RFI, or EMI, the stray radio and electromagnetic frequencys from most common circuits. This 'COULD' be amplifying the DVD tracking and the VCR tape motor servos. Simply put, try getting some distance between the two and see if that makes the units possibly quiet down. Keep in mind that I barely know what the hell I'm talking about. THANX!
  24. I don't think anybody has purchased any yet. Or they not talking. I'd ask Tom. You know solid wood is going to put off a different signature in sound. THANX!
