  1. Keith, Not sure just yet, kicking around the idea of RS-3. What do you have in mind? Scott ------------------ Front - Quartets (Walnut oil) Center - Academy (Black) Rear - Optimus (haha) soon to be replaced!!! Sub - Next addition!!! Receiver - Marantz SR-680 (upgraded from Denon AVR-810) CD - Denon DCM-320 Tape - Denon DRW-850 (soon to be back in the box) MD - Sony MDS-JE330 DVD - Sony DVP-NS-400D Sharp 27"
  2. Setting up my new DVD player and was wondering what does D-PCM mean? There is definately a difference between Dolby Digital and D-PCM sound through the rear speakers. PCM basically appears to send the same sound through the rears as the fronts. Dolby Digital sends effects through the rears. Also wondering what AC-3 is. I have read both my Marantz and DVD manuals but they really don't explain the differences. There is definately a difference in the responce in the 3. Obviously Dolby Digital is the best. Another question.... I have the option of choosing 48kHz/96kHz or 48khz/16bit. I have tried both and don't knotice much difference. Somebody tell me what setting are the best. (Receiver does not have DTS and is connected with digital coax) Scott ------------------ Front - Quartets (Walnut oil) Center - Academy (Black) Rear - Optimus (haha) soon to be replaced!!! 4. Speed, Glad to hear you found one!! Doug, Sorry to hear about your fiasco. A tangent instead of an academy? Hate to hear that. 5. http://216.37.9.58/cgi-bin/ubb/postdisplay.cgi?forum=Forum4&topic=002128 Kain - check out this thread. It may add some insight. I'm still a little confused about the perfect choice, Progressive Scan or not? I have come to the conclusion that Progressive Scan DVD players will only be of any benifit if you have a HDTV, otherwise the additional cost of Progressive Scan is basically a waste. Please guys, comment if I am totally on the "wrong page" cause I too also plan on DVD purchase soon (within the next 2 weeks). Also looking at Sony Wega KV27FS13 (size reasons over anything bigger). The tv is $600 vs. HGTV that are $2000+ and further I do not have the room for one of those big boys. Sony has several single disk non progressive scan players in the range of $225 to $350 depending on the features you want. There are several other brands out there with similar prices and specs. Maybe this will help, hopefully not further confuse : Scott ------------------ Front - Quartets (Walnut oil) Center - Academy (Black) Rear - Optimus (haha) soon to be replaced!!! 6. Rwmin, I have been too busy with work to get by my local Paradigm dealer to give it a listen. Hopefully within the next week can get by. Also, hopefully he will have one. He didn't have but 5 subs the other day and I do not believe that one of those was the PW2200. He's very pricy and doesn't budge from his price. Thanks again for all the comments/suggestions, Scott
  7. How far apart should speaker wires be kept from electrical wires? Also interconnects? 8. Are there any DSS receivers with digital connection? All I have seen only have RCA connections. 9. Yall (ya gotta love the southern accent) have stirred my curosity in Paradigm. I had listened to several Paradigms last week but I do not believe that the 2200 was one of them. My local "high-end" dealer carries Paradigm and I was told that they were getting a shipment in soon. The salesman is a good guy but the owner really lacks personality and salesmanship. I avoid the store when he is there and hate to spend my $$$ there. Oh well, when there are limited sources you do the best with what you got. 10. Go to UPS.com or UnitedParcelService.come either/or or just search for UPS. You can enter zip codes, weight, insurance value, and size and get a very close estimate. Shipping for my recently purchased Academy 40lbs, COD and $150 ins was $46. 11. I plan on purchasing a sub soon - hopefully within the next 2 or so weeks. I have read many different comments/opinions of subs on this board. So many that I am getting kinda confused. I have budgeted to spend $500 to $600. so.. here's my request --- Opinions on KSW-15 or Velodyne CT150. The size/height of the SVS subs are not gona work for me for some time (until I buy a bigger house). 12. This is a quote taken from the Crutchfield website. "Progressive scan-Instead of splitting each video frame into two sequential fields like interlaced scan, progressive scan displays the entire frame in a single sweep. So, where a standard DVD player's 480i output displays 30 frames (60 fields) per second, a progressive-scan player's 480p output displays 60 full frames per second. Progressive-scan picture quality is more filmlike, with more fine detail and less flicker. Progressive-scan viewing requires an "HDTV-ready" TV" So, am I correct in assuming that if I/we do no own a HTDV-ready TV and are not planning on getting one anytime soon then there is no need to get a DVD player with this option? Basically, I would be wasting $100+ that I could be putting toward a Sony Wega. 13. I would like to add another question to the thread... If you don't have a HDTV and not planning on buying one for at least 5 years or until they get cheaper, is there any reason to spend the extra $100+ to get progressive scan? Also, I feel certain that when HDTV prices get lower and technology goes up, I'm sure that DVD technology and prices will also follow suit.
