  1. Yes, I have Heresy II's. I am going to recap the crossovers while I'm at it. I will make my cabinets from 3/4" with internal bracing as well.
  2. Well... the Feed-N-Wax made all four finished look better!! And it is on no way a wet looking shine or an oil looking finish. Just a very subtle sheen to it. Looks like the wood has been sanded ultra sooth. Like the wood itself has been buffed. I am going to look at all four finishes tomorrow and see if I an pick a favorite. Other than the Trade Secret, the other three finishes look VERY similar. Watco Tung oil is very expensive. Unless it somehow has a longer life between finishing/refinishing, I would not suggest that finish because of cost.
  3. Well, after applying the Feed-N-Wax, over the top of the Restor-A-Finish, that treatment looked the best. Not sure if you will be able to see it in the pic. The treatment left a nice sheen. It does not look wet. Does not look like cleat coat. It does not look like the wood has a oil or treatment on it...... just looks like the wood has been hand rubbed and is very smooth. So, I am not sure if Restor-A-Finish with Feed-N-Wax is the perfect combo..... or if the Feed-N-Was is the sole contributor. Right now, I have a coat of Feed-N-Wax on all of the finishes. I will hand buff that off in about 20 minutes and the I'll share the results. Top box below is the Restor-A-Finish with Feed-N-Wax over the top.
  4. Here is the final product. Restor-A-Finish in top box. Trade Secret in 2nd box down from the top. Tung Oil in 3rd box down from the top and Rejuvenating Oil in the bottom box. Trade Secret definitely darkened up the Oak. I really cannot see much of a difference between the other three. I shined a bright light on them all and still did notice much of a difference. I am going to try to attach a video of me moving the bright light down the side of the box focusing for a second on each of the finishes. The video is probably too large to attach. By the way, the Feed-N-Wax is the second stage of the Restor-A-Finish. I will post a pic after the 20 minute wait time on that product that goes on after the Restor-A-Finish.
  5. Excess tung oil was wiped off after 15 minutes. Box to the left. Trade Secret was applied in box to the right and excess immediately wiped off per instructions. Trade Secret definitely darkens up the wood. At least in the Oak.
  6. Excess Rejuvenating oil was wiped free after 10 minutes. Box to the left. Tung oil was added to box to the right. Liberal amount was applied to assure a wet film was standing. The tung oil is MUCH thicker than the rejuvenating oil. Instructions say to let the tung oil stand for 15 mintes.
  7. Rejuvenating oil has been applied. Put on thick enough to leave a wet sheen. Instructions say let stand and wipe off in 10 minutes.
  8. Ok. Testing begins tonight. The only unfortunate thing is my test speaker is oak. My speakers I eventually will treat are walnut.
  9. That is exactly why I was asking. My HII's need the cabinets rebuilt. I thought the logical answer would be to build Tamgent 400 cabinets. Does anyone have the dimension/port specs of the Tangent 400? Was the mid/tweeter inside the same air-space of the cabinet as the woofer?
  10. Cabinet probably resonated pretty bad??
  11. For a short time, Klipsch offered a ported version of the Heresy.... or should say, very similar to the Heresy. It was taller and two round ports in the front at the bottom. I am not talking about the industrial version of the Heresy. Can anyone tell me the model name of this speaker?
  12. Unfortunately, her is a pic of my progress. I have received all of the treatment products..... just been too busy at work. I'm hoping to get some free time the middle of next month.
  13. I sit 8 feet from my Heresys. What would be a general rule of thumb how far apart I should separate the speakers. How many degrees tilt in? By the way, the speakers are pretty much in the center of the room. The back wall is 13 feet behind the back of the speakers. I have no other options in speaker placement other than adjusting the separation between the two.
  14. Do you put the hose up to the dust cover first and then turn on the vacuum? I would think that would be one heck of an impact if the sweeper was running and then I put the hose up to the dust cover. Seems like it would grab it and slam the dust cover to the hose.
  15. Have you tried steel wool and ScotchBrite pads both? And you preferred ScotchBrite over steel wool?
  16. I built two La Scala bottoms myself when I was about 17 year old. There was no way at that time in my life I could have afforded a set of Klipsch speakers and certainly not the La Scalas!! I am now older, have a successful career and own four sets of Klipsch speakers. I think the Klipsch and DIY stuff worked to Klipsch company advantage in my case.
  17. For the heritage line, on the serial number sticker on the back, is "WO" walnut oil? Is "OO", oak oil? Were any of the heritage speakers finished at the Klipsch factory with lacquer? Or was raw and oil the only options?
  18. So here is the sacrificial test subject. LOL! I will be applying the 4 different veneer treatment oils to this one speaker. This KG4 sounds great, but you can see it looks rough!! So it is great for testing. My prized Heresys and MINT KG4's will get the single treatment that ultimately tests as the best. I think you will agree... not a lot lost by testing on this beat up KG4. I actually have a pair. They both look about the same. When done testing. Whatever is the darkest oil treatment will be used to go back over the whole pair. BTW, these little gems will be up for sale.
  19. Well, here is what I have now. Still waiting for the Watco Rejuvenating oil to arrive. BTW, glad I did not get any more suggestions on wood treatments! LOL!! I'm broke now!
  20. My Dynamat deadening alternative just arrived today! 100mil Kilmat. I will be treating the horns over the next couple of weeks. I'm still unsure about the woofer baskets. Considering felt on the insides of the baskets and the Kilmat on the backside of the baskets. And yes....... I realize I have enough Kilmat there to treat every speaker in the city I live in!!! Get away from the designer Dynamat and this is very affordable!
  21. Why would I change to a set of Chorus or KLF 30 when my current project is upgrading a set of 1990 Heresy?? Don't understand your response.
