    FS: KEF LS50's

I am selling my KEF LS50's. Purchased less than a year ago, they are in excellent shape. Basically just broken in. There are no flaws in function or appearance. I have the original boxes with packing material, owners manual and brochure, and the foam port plugs for placing close to a wall, bookshelf, etc. There are many, many reviews on the web for these speakers. They are designed with a different philosophy compared to classic Klipsch but are truly great speakers in their own right. IMO, they are best in a smallish room, perfect for a bedroom converted to a man cave. I would keep these speakers but I have a new baby and priorities have changed. I just picked up a pair of Forte 2's from a local forum member (thanks again Hogfan!) for a good price and am planning on sticking with one setup for a while (or the next 18 years, ) so I want to generate some cash to knock down some bills. I am asking $900. Local pickup is preferred and the speakers can be auditioned. I will include the stands for an additional $50. Stands are Sanus SF30 ( http://www.sanus.com/en_US/products/speaker-stands/sf30/ ). I am willing to ship the speakers but do not have boxes for the stands, so no stands available for out-of-towners. Shipping weight is 41lbs so I estimate around $50 in continental US. Local pickup is Little Rock, AR. PM if interested. Thanks, Adam
  3. Hello All, I am the proud new owner of the Forte's and have no intention on a flip. Got them home and hooked up to a Musical Fidelity A5 integrated, wow. These are keepers for me. I can't think of another speaker that can check so many boxes for the footprint or price. Thanks Hogfan!
  4. Having owned some of the desirable 70's Marantz and Pioneer receivers, I suggest you take a look at the Harman Kardon Hk430/730 (also 630/930) Twin Power series receivers. In my experience, they can be had for much cheaper and sound better. I've heard some say that the 430 in the preferred model but I had a 430 and a 730 and the 730 sounded a bit better than the 430 on a pair of Cornwalls. I would bet that the difference amounted to the condition of the unit. Both had been cleaned with de-oxit but untouched otherwise.
  5. I'm not an expert by any stretch but wonder if a similiar result would be produced by a less than ideal cartridge/tonearm matchup?
  6. No affiliation... http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad=35206565&cat=494&lpid=&search=&ad_cid=12 Looks like the inspector's signature could be PWK.
  7. HH Scott LT-110 wideband stereo tuner, fully functioning, everything works exactly as it should. Was rebuilt prior to my purchasing it. It looks like at least caps and some resistors have been replaced but I'm not a tech by any stretch so I've included photos of the underside of the chassis. Tubes are all made in USA except one from Holland, and one Matsushita. Most are branded HH Scott. Antenna hook up has been converted to 75ohm for easy coax connection. Faceplate looks very nice to me but take a look at the pics and judge for yourself. The case is not an exact fit, a little deeper than it needs to be, and has some minor battle scars. Looks quite presentable from a few feet. I'm asking 120.00 plus 20.00 shipping to anywhere in the continental US. Local pickup and audition is welcomed. I am in Logan, UT I also have my 299C listed and would love for the same person to get both as they make a nice pair. Feel free to ask questions, Adam.
  8. Oh man, I'm sure I'll regret putting this up for sale... 299C, rebuilt by Craig (NOS Valves) summer 2014. Craig performed his deluxe rebuilds which includes test points on top of the chassis as well as bias adjustment. Instruction provided by Craig will be included. Amp functions exactly as it should, no scratchy pots, lights light up when they are supposed to, no hum. I am only selling because we are about to make a cross country move to a smaller place and my wife is pregnant so a downsize is in order. My big Altecs are gone and in their place are a pair of those cute little KEF LS50's. With around 85db sensitivity, the Scott won't be the best pairing. Tubes are Dynaco branded Telefunken 12ax7's in the front end, Mullard E80cf phase splitters, factory matched HH Scott branded Westinghouse 7591's, and GE branded Mullard GZ34 rectifier. General concensus would probably say this is the best of the best tube compliment in all positions. The case was built by your's truly out of solid walnut, wiped down with mineral spirits and finished off with high quality paste wax for a finish that can be maintained forever. The case was designed to allow heat to escape, prolonging the life of the tube and amp. Uses sorbothane feet. I rate the faceplate 7/10, but ratings are subjective so look at the pics. Included with the sale is another good, used GE branded Mullard GZ34 rectifier, a new (in place for 5 min. to test) JJ 5ar4/GZ34, and a pair of hard to find sylvania 7687's that can be rolled into the phase splitter position. Some claim these to be just the thing for the Scott's. I can definitey tell a difference but prefer to E80CF's. Asking price is $1000 plus $40 shipping anywhere in the Continental US. I don't have a ton of posts but have been around a while and have sold several things here with the buyer being very happy with the transaction. The amp will be very well packed. Local pickup and audition welcomed. I am in Logan, UT (northeast corner). I am willing to meet a buyer in SLC. Alos have a Scott Lt-110 stereo tuner for sale, I will list that seperately.
  9. Cantalope, I highly recommend you swing by E3 Modern gallery in downtown SLC, this is the home of Electronluv and he has an amazing 5 way horn setup, fed by a custom TT and his Elecronluv 300B amps. Very, very impressive. I beleive he also has some sort of LaScala based project setup at the moment. Josh is the name of the proprieter and he is a very knowledgeable and friendly guy. He has a lot of vinyl on hand and will happily demonstrate the system for you. Also, The White Owl, in Logan, has some LaScalas and Heresies in the main area of the bar, normally just playing background though.

    Calling Karma

That looks more like a vaccine that has only been tested on primates to me. Certainly could be wrong.
  11. I've been a member of this forum for a while and have met several of you in person. I do not currently own any Klipsch but continue to read here because of the geniune courtesy and interest of the mebership as a whole. I've learned a lot from many of you and am grateful for that. Reading this thread, and other recent threads, I am a disappointed at the eagerness to disdain the path others have taked toward their own personal quest toward their own audio nirvana. This hobbey has long been about experiments, individual quests, and discussions among friends. If i choose to place my speaker wires on top of wooden blocks, or say a little prayer upon every record I place upon my turntable, or run my associated cords at perfect perpendicular angles to one another in the name of good sound and musical enjoyment, is that not in a general sense among the same vane that we all come to this forum for? Seriously, look around the web and tell me that it isn't a bit silly to condemn one of our own for these "infractions".
  12. Very interesting, thanks for sharing.
  13. Some encouragement from my own experiences....I have found that most 70's, esp mid-late 70's receivers need little more than some de-oxit worked into the controls and an occasional bulb replaced to function safely, and often sound quite good at that. I have little doubt that the sonics can improve with a recap but, IME, you can get an idea of the character of that receiver, and if favorable, have a tech go through it. For an office system, where critical listening is not really going to happen, I would think that you will probably be satisfied with a number of quality 70's receivers with a simple cleaning of controls. The big Pioneers are nice, I really enjoyed a SX980 with my Cornwalls, but they command high prices more often than not. If using relatively efficient speakers, i.e. any Klipsch, I would look at NAD7020, HK Twin Power models like the 430, 630, 730, or one that's usually way off the radar, Phillips 7851. These are just examples that I have had personal experience with and are usually not as pricey as the better known Marantz, Pioneer, Sansui, etc. I'm sure there are many others. Of course, you may pick up one of these and it blow a transistor during the 1st song, but that hasn't been my experience. Old tube gear, on the other hand, really always needs a recap, at the very least.
  14. Ok, I have edited my post. If I'm honest with myself, I am never going to get to these projects. I can't bring myself to throw them away and I don't want to move them again. If nothing else, Heritage owners can experiment with a different horn sound for just the cost of gas. Or get a taste of the idler sound that's all the talk in certain circles. Anybody? Just PM me if intereted.
  15. I am moving out of state (again, ugh...) and need to make a lighter load. I have a piar of EV sm120a horns, cosmetically nice, funtionally perfect. These are the same mid horns used in the Sentry iii and iv, I beleive they are suitable from 400-6000hz. 120 degree, constand directivity. They accept a 1in thread-on driver, such as our beloved K55. I have heard these horns are a nice option in a LaScala but I have not tried that. In fact, I've never even listended to them. I thought I would use them in a project and never did. Dual 1229Q auto turntable. Has issues. Toneram bearings feel fine, motor spins, all the linkages are gunked up with old grease. This one needs a full service from someone that knows how to do it. No platter mat. Cosmetics are very nice on the TT itself, the base is about a 6 out of 10. These factory bases are pretty cheap and light, I think sound would improve a lot with a better base. Comes with dust cover, has a crack about an inch long in the back, some minor scuffing on top. Pioneer SX990, I beleive this is a 1970 model, 27 wpc. I just hooked it up after it had been sitting for 3-4 years. No sound out of one channel. I doubt de-oxit will fix it, just don't know. When I hooked it up 3-4 years ago, everything functioned. Missing one knob, and a little rough on cosmetics. Some lights are out. You could clean and polish the face and it would look pretty good. All items are pickup only, I don't want to ship these. I am located in Central AR, between Conway and Russellville.
  16. I will agree with all the others reccommending Craig perform his magic. I lived with a 299C for 5 years, never really feeling like I was getting the magic that I'd always heard about with the 299 series. Finally sent it off to Craig, turns out the guy I bought it from did a very poor job restoring it, cheap parts, bad soldering, and something very messed up with one channel. After Craig got everything sorted, the magic is all there and I couldn't be happier. I'll try other amps down the road, but this one will always be a part of my stable. For tuners, I use a Scott lt-110, the kit version of a Scott 350. It is stereo, and from what I've read, Scott was ahead of the game when it came to tuners. These tuners also share similar cosmetics and the same case from the 299 series, so they look very nice sitting next to each other. The tuners can be found for reasonable money on that auction site.
  17. Listening to Big Swifty off of Frank Zappa's Waka Jawaka, 2 channell via massive Lenco L75, Diy SUT, NOSvalves rebuilt Scott 299c, and Altec Model 18's. Certainly satisfies these ears. No sub nor surrounds needed.
  18. Just saw this, I sold the speakers a while back.
  19. Sounds like you may have a similar TT already but I have a Dual 1229Q that can play 78's. It does need a complete service for proper function because the grease on the linkages underneath has gotten thick. Just throwing it out there since I am relatively close to you, central AR, near Russellville.
  20. I've got a pair of Frazier Sevens for sale, fully functional, but cosmetically challenged. I bought them locally for cheap with broken input terminals and one non-working woofer. I found a broken woofer lead and dirty, intermitten pots. I had a local pro sound company repair the woofer lead, cleaned the pots with Deoxit, and replaced the broken input terminals with nice quality Dayton binding posts. The speakers are now working perfectly and sound great. The cabinets are sound, but the walnut veneer is rough. The original foam grills are long gone. Replacements are available online. All drivers and crossovers are original. I bought these at a good price and am selling them for what I have in them. I had planned on keeping them but we are moving in a couple of days and don't have room to take them, so I need them gone asap. I am located in Salt Lake City.
