  1. Well for those interested, I finally got my new Electro Voice speakers. Thought I'd post some pics and observations as well as ask a few questions. First of all, what's inside. Each enclosure has a 15TRX, a T25A with 8HD horn and an X8 crossover. After a lot of reading, I have found that some TRX's (non- had built-in X36 crossovers, some external. The one's I have are under the cap on the driver, though they do not look like any pics I've seen floating around the web. In fact, they look like a DIY job. Anyone have any ideas? Second, these things sound BIG! Like, make my Cornscalas sound quite small in comparison. Deep bass! They also sound very smooth, though lack the detail of the Cornscalas. I'm guessing old caps are playing a role in this to some extent. Now, for the not-so-great. One of the T35's in the TRX has no sound. I traced the wires, all connections seem solid. I played with the attenuators hoping to get the crackle of dirty pots, nothing. I have a multi-meter, does anyone know if I can check continuity from the TRX speaker connections, or will I need to locate the wires within the TRX mounted crossover? I've searched around the net and it looks like diaphragms for 16 ohm T35's are non-existent. I plan to call Bob Crites to inquire about those as well as new crossovers but wanted to try to get answers to the questions he will need to ask. Thanks in advance for any help. Adam
  2. Hey schu, I'm interested, what price would you let them go for? Are they oem klipsch? What condition are they in?
  3. Wow, Thanks Captn Bob! While not specifically what I asking, you answered those questions and then some. That's great. I bought the speakers and will take delivery of them this Friday. I'll post some photos of them after getting the heavy things indoors. Everything looks to be in very good condition, but I'll pull the drivers (carefully!) and inspect the cones and surrounds to know for sure. I am assuming the "filled" crossover is the X36? I've seen some photos on another forum of caps under the motor cover of the TRX. I assume these are for the T-35? Thanks for the tip about replacement crossovers from Bob Crites. I purchased caps and tweeters for my Cornwalls from him. Looks like I can replace the caps on the TRX myself with careful application of a heatgun to remove the badge and source replacements for the X36 from Bob.
  4. I would love to trade you my black grills but they are pretty rough, rougher than you would want, I'd guess. Original Klipsch but a few snags, bordering on holes, a crack in board, etc. And, I modified the mid opening to fit the larger Fastrac tractrix horn.
  5. Hello All, I've run across a pair of seemingly well crafted bass reflex enclosures loaded with vintage EV drivers. Both speakers are identically constructed and loaded with matching drivers consisting of 1 EV 15TRX triaxial and 1 T25 compression driver mated to an 8B horn, each. Crossovers and attentuaters are included as well. The cabinets are large, I'm guessing close to 8-10cf internal. Construction is 3/4" ply with walnut veneer. The design looks to be well thought out and executed, though I am not a speaker designer by any stretch so I'm making a leap here. Condition is pristine, as in 60's time capsule. I connected both speakers to a receiver and out came music from all drivers. As far as I can tell everything is in excellent condition. And, I am comfortable with the seller's asking price. My question to you all is this: Does anyone here have any experience with the older EV stuff. I know it's not Klipsch, but from my understanding EV and Klipsch had sort of a symbiotic relationship with shared enclosure designs and drivers. Specifically, what are some of the sound characteristics? Imaging? Etc. Do the drivers often need repair, like replacing surrounds? I am assuming new caps, anything thing else to bring them up to original spec? FWIW, I would use my Scott 299C to power them. What's up with the attenuators? Thanks for any insight.
  6. I saw those. They look to be very nice, and I agree that they are priced right. I'm pretty attached to my Cornscalas, otherwise I would be very tempted. I definitely do not have room for 2 pairs of Cornwalls. Thanks for the heads up.
  7. Thanks Budman and Peretual, both are very nice. Perpetual-is that the Klisch Cane grills, or another factory offering?
  8. Thanks Budman. I've looked at the mellotone fabrics but it's hard to tell looking at that little swatch, good to know the 4134 will have the cane look I am after. I feel comfortable gluing the fabric, just don't have a way of cutting the boards.
  9. I've looked through Bob's site several times but haven't found any grills to buy. I have a pair of Cornwalls with the Fastrac mid horn, and factory black grills that I modified the cutout to match the mid horn. I am just looking for a pair of Cane grills, original that I can modify the squaker opening, or a pair made by someone with the ways and means. Thank you for the suggestion though.
  10. Anybody have a pair of Cornwall Cane grills they would like to part with? They don't have to be original Klipsch as long as they look close to the real deal. Badges are not necessary. Any of you crafty Diy'ers want to build a pair? I'll entertain that as well, long as the price fits my budget. If intersted in building a pair, send a PM and we can talk price. I know everyone's time is worth something so I'd rather not insult anyone with budget constaints here. Just putting a feeler out for some Cane grills. Thanks
  11. I've got a pair of HD595's. Hardly used (why I'm willing to sell), excellent condition. Was certain I had the box for the, but just did a quick search and coud not find. Think the wife may have "misplaced it". Anyway, I have the 1/8" adapter and the shelf hanger as well. I don't recall what I paid for them (bought new), how does $120, shipped sound?
  12. I'd like to add Hot Buttered Soul, Isaac Hayes. Powerful horns, Check. Poweful Vocals, Check. 4 songs, total. This record jams...and is often found second hand at records shops.
  13. " One thing I did with pleasing results with Khorns and LaScalas was drop the autoformer tap by one tap on the mid. This lowers the mid by 3db. In one particular room this made the sound just right to my ears. The result is more perceived bass. in my application the mid and bass blended nicely." DD, would you mind expanding on this? As in how to do this, pics would be super helpful. I have this setup converted from '82 cornwalls, but retained the K77-K51V-K33 drivers with recapped B-2 xovers (in other words, added the fastrac mid horn). The more pronounced (and much smoother, bigger, and overall morepleasant IMO) mid range has often been something I've wondered about in relation to HF and LF balance.
  14. I have a pair of Sennheiser HD595's and the sound is very detailed but considerably brighter than my Cornscalas. I have one of the Altoid can headphone amps that I normally use, but last night I plugged them in to my Scott 299c while spinning some vinyl for a direct comparison of the phones and my speakers. The phones were pretty fatiguing after 5 mintues or so. It's different strokes for different folks, but in my opinion the 595's will likely be bright with any amp. Fwiw, construction is top notch and they are very comfortable. I should probably point out that these phones are an entirely different beast from the HD600's mentioned above.
  15. Aw man, I just bought one of these on ebay, after not seeing any in the garage sell forum. I guess the lesson here is always ask, someone just may have a nice piece they are willing to let go. That said, these receivers live up to their stellar reputation. And, I agree...40 watts seems way conservative! Good luck with the sale.
  16. Bingo! Exactly what I am after. The resources available on this forum never cease to amaze me. Thanks Bill!
  17. Hello All, I recently picked up a Harman Kardon HK730 to be used in my 2nd system, so I've been thinking about moving my HK430 that previously powered my 2nd system to my main system. Main system uses a TT as the only source, ran through a Scott 299C to a pair of Cornscalas. I'd like to incorporate the 430 to make use of the tuner and to compare and contrast the two for my own amusement. So, how would you guys make this setup work? Ideally, this will use a switch rather than a lot of disconnecting and connecting if possible. Any ideas?
  18. Very Nice! I recently picked up a first pressing Kind of Blue for $35, NM. I am very satisfied. Fwiw, the seller (local shop) said this was mono, but it turned out to be stereo. I don't have it in front of me right now to see the catalog number. Sounds fantastic to my ears.
