  1. Interesting. The fellow would have only allowed the folks in Hope to do things by their recommendation and their hand. He would have only taken them and picked up himself. To do otherwise would have been sacrilege. Though not tech types personally we both grew up in Klipsch filled homes mere counties from the Hope mothership from childhood throughout all of our adult lives. I still have a pair of Heresys purchased by an Uncle in late 70's, both woofers scratched out by kittens 10 years later, now with thirty five more years those half woofers and the rest of the bones relay more delicacy and soul than any pair of Heresys I've owned or heard since. Maybe it's nothing but the wood in these old Horns, and time, but I would know they were Klipsch if nothing but A.M. radio snow were playing through them on the other side of a large house. These Horns are Klipsch soul. Soul so big even when Etta James whispers in this club you would swear she lives on inside that 1960's bin, meanwhile these Horns are giving you the kind stage without moving you can place yourself all over the club. Early 80's La Scalas almost match the Horns on this one, but not quite.
  2. I bought these together some years back from a fellow who said he had them restored in Hope. Said one was made in the mid to late 1950's, the other in early '60's. There was damage to one from an accident while moving. Nothing whatsoever effecting quality of performance. Once I had them in place in my home I never stopped listening enough to have the mostly invisible wounds addressed. 3500 for both. Pickup 5 country miles outside of Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Cash only.
  3. Bought this one and another dated 1956 around about twenty years ago. Vague memory now of the seller saying this was an early 60s model. Is there a directory or other way of dating it correctly? Apology if this not the proper section of forum for this kind of question. Soon as I feel comfortable about determining reasonable price both will be posted here for sale. Thanks.
  4. I'm sitting here listening to WWOZ jazz festival in place with Klipsch Horns, one from the late fifties and the other from the early sixties, the original '90's Aleph 1, and a Supratek pre amp. This system has been gold to me for the lat ten years. I do wonder what a few more than these 30 watts might do for me from time to time (like right now)?
  5. Hello, Bought a fantastic old pair of 1950's Klipschorns a few months back and just purchased a Supratek Chardonnay on Audiogon, which will arrive in a week. Now I need an amp and have no idea what to do. Just not comfortable with many temptations that are 50/60 watts or less out there. I don't need to peel the paint off walls, but I wouldn't mind being able to crack the paint if I want now and then. This will be in my living room for the whole tv/dvd/phono/computer usb two channel system. I live with a sound of music in the air most of my waking life. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Primary music will be acoustic, folk, bluegrass, jazz, electronic, rock, blues. My budget is preferably keeping it under 1500. There is an old pass alph 3 on audiogon and a pair of prima luna monoblock 6 as well. Anyone have experience with either of those and klipschorns? Thanks
  6. Seriously considering purchasing a Sunfire. Do you need a better DAC than it has for mp3 listening? Have you tried it with any of the old McIntosh amps we discuss above? On Panansonic now listening to Lonnie Smith - Live at Club Mozambique now. The Hammond B3 sounds amazing on the horns. And Jimmy Smith's horns on Back at the Chicken Shack... wow.
  7. Thanks, you've mentioned several new things for me to look into, and I will. As for tube preamps I meant to mention ... the original Sunfire sounds like a real gem if I can find one at a fair price. Though it probably could use some DAC help since it's a bit dated now?
  8. None taken, On Mac here, which is rarely a problem... guess it lost formatting in safari.
  9. Hello all, Lifelong Klipsch owner here (Heresey's and La Scalla's)... just bought two pristine old klipschorns which Bob Crite (sp?) reworked up top a while back. I've never listened to another pair of Horns before these so I have no idea what others sound like. Anyway, I'm in heaven here... with a crappy ten year old consumer reports top pick Panasonic AV control receiver which has got to go into the trash heap of history. I need help, I've read the audio internet like a madman for a few months.. and I feel like I now know enough to be very dangerous to my meager means..) I want to be able to hook up.. at the very least Record player Computer (mac laptop) DVD Sat TV (2 way, not surround) preferably another slot for whatever, CD, blue ray, something. and i want a remote for volume.. would like to be able to switch inputs from remote, but not a must. A couple of old mcintosh pieces really tempt me... such as the MC 250 which seems fairly affordable when it pops up. The MC 225 even more so (tubes baby!), but I don't know what good ones go for yet. Nor do I know what new fangled preamps might do either of those old MC amps justice? Other than that, i think I am most curious if the peachtree (DAC sounds amazing?) will do what I want.. at best overall cost? 1200 plus an external record amp thingamajig... which would be a bit more than I intended to spend, but if would do the horns justice I could wait, knowing fellow Klipsch owners gave it a thumbs up. Then there is decware, which really catches my eye for some fine simple reasons - if it's loud enough, but again, what new fangled preamp will do decware and khorns justice while allowing me to hook-up enjoy sound as mentioned above? Thanks for any and all feedback, I've been reading here a while and really appreciate the trails you all have led me down.
  10. Thanks, I will google these suggestions and see what's out there... don't ned portability, but that might be the kind of gear that works in a permanent home solar situation.
  11. Fantastic shot... and a great idea for La Scalas. WIsh I had digi photos of all the places I've set up La Scallas over the years. Thanks for all suggestions.. I know a home would have a number of large batteries, but I don't yet know how many or what limitations i would have. Will ask a few friends who are comfortably off the grid, but not w/ home stereo how much juice I should be able to allot for this.
  12. Hello, I'm thinking about a significant (to me) upgrade in my home audio equipment life. I have an enormous collection of albums, old tapes, most of the tapes are shows I taped... and of course a massive CD collection. But I am also seriously considering building a solar powered home in a couple of years and want to be prepared with what I buy now... to be solar ready in the years ahead. I listen to music many, many hours every day. It's difficult to imagine a cd/dvd player beyond what's in my laptop being more energy efficient. So that's probably covered... and I would just have to pick and chose sunny times for playing records or tapes. I currently own Heresys.. what model I don't know (1985)... and would like to go back to a La Scalla high-life as soon as possible. I want to remain a two channel player. The main questions I have at this time are related to power consumption of an amp/pre amp system which would still run a large efficient set of Klipsch La Scalla (maybe, just maybe Klipsch Horns. Am I going to have to give up on the idea of tubes for solid state for energy purposes... even if I consider a medium sized tube amp from decware? http://www.decware.com/newsite/tubes.html Any other thoughts or considerations along my line of solar audio curiosity would be appreciated.. contemplated.
