  1. The file may be corrupt, but there is a backup as well. Look for the wab backup file... You can create a logical partition with the free space. Store data like pictures, music and movies there. You can also upgrade the operating system to anything newer and you will have partition expanding built in. Started in Vista.
  2. I don't think his other drive is bootable, but he never really said I reckon. Outlook Express user files, including *.wab and *.dbx files, are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under" Start/Control Panel/Folder Options/View After that, just do a search for *.wa? Here is a link with lots of OE help. http://www.insideoe.com/files/wab.htm
  3. I think you answered your own question. Still, the KLF-c7 has a 8" sealed design and the CF-1 uses 6.5 ported. I brought that up before on the other center. Aparently the mids and highs are the thing that matter when timbre matching. Dunno...
  4. You should be looking at the Microsoft Knowledgebase for answers to these questions.Am I correct that you now have a new installation of XP on the system, and you are worried about verification? If you cannot verify this install, then you need MS KB, and may even need to talk to a MS tech, which is like pulling hen's teeth. Frankly, I am not even sure what your trouble is.... You have a new install and things are working or not??
  5. KV-4 has tweeter: K-64-KN 2" (5.08cm) Aluminum diaphragm compression driver CF-1 has weeter: K-90-KV 1" (2.54cm) Phenolic diaphragm compression driver What is Phenolic? Isn't that transparent aluminum?
  6. Hudson, Are these speakers matched because of the horns? I see that is the common factor. His pair of speakers is ported and the center is sealed. His woofers are 6.5 and the center 8. The prequency responses are very different as is the efficiency. I am trying to learn this as I am still on a quest for the perfect center channel for my lascalas, and I'm thinking I might be better looking at the horn and tweet for timbre match. Sorry for the noob question.
  7. 931 GB per TB Hard drive manufacturers calculate storage capacity at 1,000 per KB. Windoze calculates it at 1024. One uses base 10 the other base 2. HD 1.5 TB should be about 1.396 TB. I'd say that is what you are dealing with. Found this: kilo = 210 = 10241 = 1024 mega = 220 = 10242 = 1,048,576 giga = 230 = 10243 = 1,073,741,824 tera = 240 = 10244 = 1,099,511,627,776 see?
  8. Got two of the speakers done, and I can't tell the difference. At my age, many of the high notes are above my 100% audibility threshold anyway. Perhaps a child could hear a difference, but this is a MAN cave, not a kid cave.
  9. I think the protection of the speakers outweighs the disadvantages. I will be very carefull to not over EQ the highs which would endanger the tweets. Thank you all for the great advice!
  10. Thanks Fritz. I am gonna order some right now if they have online ordering.
  11. Since my la Scalas are in a shop environment, it has been my concern that grindings (eg. from steel) might contaminate the speakers. My answer is to put speaker fabric over the front and the back (crossover area) to protect them. Will this degrade the sound? Here is a picture of some speakers I found on Ebay that are fabric covered on the front. They are removable and made with Newfoam DF-6000. My first question is would this stuff keep metal grindings out, and 2 would it hurt the sound? Thanks
  12. You might get better advice with a drawing or a few pics. I am not competent about giving advice on placement, but I do know what you are describing is a bit confusing. The folks that hover around here are, quite frankly, brilliant... Best luck!
  13. I have 2 pairs of La Scalas now on the original Integra 5.9 receiver. The AL-3 crossovers seem a little smoother than the newly refurbished AA crossovers, so I will be moving the AL-3's to the front. The system sounds great, and once I get the center speaker in place I will update the thread. As I stated before, I will likely be building my subs. Danley DST-10's are looking like a great step after next. Once I get the speakers in place I am gonna look long and hard at the recomended Marantz AV7005 pre-amp paired with the Integra 70.1 amp. I can get them for $3,100, and that is for brand new 'A' stock. I really like Pandora radio, and the AV7005 has that, and a LOT more, built right in. I am choosing the Integra amp over the Marantz one due to cost. It is $1,000 less, and the numbers and ratings are similar. Onkyo knows how to make amps too! Frankly I think the Marantz model is priced too high for what you get. Thanks everybody. I will keep you updated.
  14. No you did not at all discourage me. After weighing everything said by all, I am going to start with a La Scala front and center on the floor. If it is real bad, I will remove the horn and the tweeter and position them up by the TV and see how it sounds. Keep in mind I will also be listening to the 5ch stereo and some rock when I decide. Perhaps I can do something irrational like having a second set of horns by the TV, and flipping a couple A/B switches to switch to TV mode. [] I will definitely complete this thread once I have a final solution.
  15. I am going to put the center speaker on the floor. The TV needs to stay up there, and timbre matching and immersive sound are paramount, it seems. I figure the human brain can cope pretty quickly to the picture being above the sound of the center. After all, it is only a TV, and not really a person speaking. Brains get that. I will then still be able to watch shows from the shop areas, and I will be able to turn the rock up.
  16. An aquantence here has a Cav MK4 (1966) for sale $134K. The superformance in the picture is also for sale $111K. He has a real deal GT40 and two Ford Gt's as well. Not for sale...
  17. Look at my situation: My idea would be to put the squaker and the tweeter in the place the Paradigm Cinema 220's are, below the TV. The base of the La Scala would be beneath the window (where the little white table is). Those 220's just dont have the sound of the La Scalas, and if I put any speaker 6' under the TV its gonna be pretty obvious the sound isnt coming from the TV. The sofa is actually 20' from the TV, and 25' from the mains. I am trying to make this a 5 La Scala system for timbe matching.
  18. Will splitting the top and bottom and having them vertically about 6' apart have any detrimental effect? Also, the top portion would actually be taken apart and built into the wall. Thoughts?
  19. After this weekend I will be adding 2 more La Scalas to my arrangement. That's 4! I am going to be facing this very question. Look at the photo below: The TV is way up there above the window. This is an old picture so you don't see the left La Scala where the ladder is, and the second Paradigm Cinema 220 under the TV. ( had to add one to keep up with the efficiency of the La Scalas). If I put a La Scala under the TV on the floor, it will be obviously not coming from the TV, right? Ideas??
  20. I found 2 more La Scalas. I'll pick them up this weekend. These ones have AL-3 crossovers, and the others I have are AA crossovers. Not sure which crossovers should be in front. I am getting lots of different advice on sub amp size for the DST-10's. I plan on talking with the Danley engineers before I make my final order so I can discern details like that, positioning, and quantity or DST-10's. I am hoping 2 will be enough. More than that and I'm a bit afraid I may make the shop too loud and become a nuisance. Oh well! [6]
  21. Seems to me having a centered sound would be very important for the center channel. Looking at the THX center leads me to believe I may be wrong. It is clear at least that Klipsch does not share my obsession for symmetry. The biggest question would be will these very different drivers work well with a system filled with horn squaks and tweets. I have not been into this long enough to form an opinion. What makes otherwise good speakers that are different types sound bad together? For instance, my Paradigm 220's aren't really working so well with the La Scalas. My Bose Center does not sound great with the JBL L/R and the Infinity rears. The only surround system I own is all Integra and Paradigm.
  22. Would it be "Heracy" to replace the squaker and horn tweeter with a couple of mid-woofers and tweeters like on the R-2650-W on each side of the 15" woofer? That way the sound would be balanced. This on each side of the woofer:
  23. As I understand it, capacitors are high pass only. At 8 ohms, 68 uF would allow frequencies above 282Hz through, and at 4 ohms, the frequency would be 584 Hz. To do a low pass filter you need to look at inductors. A 1.8mH inductor would be about 700 Hz at 8 ohms. If I screwed this up, please somebody chime in. I am learing this too...
  24. Here is a thread: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/20549/165804.aspx Good luck
  25. The two companies I researched were Crites and ALK. I went with Crites due to cost. The ALK's looked better, but were $$$$
