    What I Got Today!

It’s a new passion project I’m doing it in my free time. I currently have 110 subscribers but I just started last month so I am quite pleased with that number. Not totally happy with how these new videos are turning out but I am learning how to edit, and things are improving with each upload. My newest review will be up tomorrow and this one is definitely better than my previous videos. My channel is Average Guy Hi-Fi. One of our favorite members here has been helping me behind the scenes (thanks Youthman). This is definitely outside my normal comfort zone but it’s been a blast for an audio junkie like me! What I Got Today!

Not today but I picked up a open box Marantz MM7055 amplifier for about $800 out the door at my local Best Buy last weekend. That is what the refurbished units sell for, when they are available. Also came with a 3 year warranty. Score! I also snagged these JBL’s to review for my new YouTube channel. Not bad deal, especially considering how they sound. $150 for the set! What I Got Today!

The box was a whopping 5’ away and I was too lazy to grab it. Definitely my favorite movie out of this group, amazing experience! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    What I Got Today!

I never thought I would be buying this much physical media again but it sounds like 4K will be the end of the road, might as well stock up. There is still a possibility 8k discs will be made but I don’t see my self going that route, for a while at least, as my eyes aren’t that good anyway. Ford vs. Ferrari is in the player, so the box didn’t make the photo[emoji51] These should give run the systems through their paces: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    What I Got Today!

Not today but picked up about 60% of these over the weekend. Nothing fancy but I started a little YouTube channel that focuses on the used audio market, which I will review speaker deals. This pile should be good for a couple videos, while I practice editing[emoji51] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Thank you very much for the help, gentlemen!
  8. This news is terrible! Hopefully his family and friends turn this horrible moment into a celebration of his life.

    R.I.P. Kobe Bryant

The media's reputation has been fractured. Our lust for instant information, whether correct or not, has put the media in a compromised position. If they wait to gather the facts, they are doomed as the report will come out after the cycle. If they rush a report out without properly researching the story, and in their haste, put out wrong info, they slowly diminish their reputation. The Nick Sandman put a large crack in CNN's reputation, and bank account. << Not political, just a fact. Please do not lock the thread. Haha. The instant information media outlets are winning for now but the average person is starting to realize that the old days of reporting a story with facts is likely long gone. Or, was that trust just us all being naïve, due to the lack of access to peek behind the curtains, like we now can with the invention of internet? The reason that the instant information media types are still winning is that they get the majority of a story's clicks right when the story drops, even if it's wrong. The retraction usually happens a couple days later, by then the masses have already moved on to the next celebrity with a new butt implant. The incorrect article is basically so far down the feed at that point that nobody sees the retraction. They've already been paid for the spike in activity so who really cares. We are the problem, but surely, none of us wants to hear that. I have restricted my news intake to about an hour each night. "Breaking" news still trickles through though, across the various social media sites and text messages, no way around that unless you revert to the 90's. It's basically the damn*d if you do, damn*d if you don't scenario.
  10. Hey Carl, Thank you for the reply! Yes, I tried changing my profile name on my laptop and iPhone and it seems the changes don't stick, even after I hit the save button. It would be great if I could have the same name across the audio forums and my YouTube channel. I really appreciate any help you could offer me!
  11. Hello friends, I tried to edit my forum name but the changes don’t hold. I am starting a YouTube home audio channel and I want to change my name to match the channel. Want to change my profile name to Average Guy Hi-Fi I searched but didn’t see an answer. Thank you in advance!

    R.I.P. Kobe Bryant

It’s hard for any of us mere mortals to imagine the amount of tail being thrown at professional athletes of Kobe’s stature. Let’s face it, he’s probably in the top 15 athletes of all time, across all sports. A friend of mine makes all the travel arrangements for a large professional sports franchise. Apparently there are tons of girls that call around hotels and follow the athlete social media to see where teams are staying. There’s a name for those girls, occasionally guys, but that name can’t be shared on a sophisticated forum like this one. Unfortunately, we will never know what happened in that hotel room. Only two people really know and one of them just passed. The Internet is full of armchair life coaches that get excited at the thought of dragging someone successful through the mud. We should look at these types of people with sadness as something in their life isn’t going the way they wanted and they spend their days projecting this unhappiness online. What makes things worse for them is the fact that by making terrible posts, it makes them even unhappier. As a society, we just need to ignore those people as much as possible or try to figure out a way to help them. Did he rape her? Did she hook up with him to extort millions? Who really knows. Both are absolutely horrible scenarios but I wouldn’t put either past people I don’t personally know. The 15 minutes of time I spent looking into it, clearly isn’t enough For me to to cast any kind of judgement. One thing’s for sure, Kobe seemed to be contributing to his community in a big way, more than I will likely be able to contribute. I am with you about the other members of the crash though. Took the media a full day to tell some of the stories of the other passengers but that might have been so law enforcement had time to notify the families. There’s not nearly as much money in reporting on the other 8 people. Very sad but true. As eluded to earlier in this thread, the main stream media only cares about clicks and money. We are all waking up to this though and getting our news elsewhere. Main stream media is greedy and is responsible for creating this massive divide but I believe their time is numbered. Whew! I guess I was holding that in. Haha
  13. Both of those systems are beautiful, and just my style! Great work combining sound with aesthetics!
  14. I have owned a couple aniline Eames chair replicas over the years and I was super impressed with the feel and the durability. If I went go leather, I will definitely try to go aniline, if it’s not $1,000 per chair, just in materials. I am going to try to go to an upholstery shop up north today, to pick their brains. Once I have an idea of pricing, I will be sure to report back.
  15. I figured this might be a helpful thread, for myself and some here, if their favorite listening chair/chairs are beginning to show their age. I am also trying to buy less brand new products, when possible and have grown to appreciate this whole reclaimed mindset so many are starting to embrace. Oh yeah, I am also pretty cheap. So there’s that.. A pair of Zero Touch Zero Gravity recliners popped up near me that is almost too inexpensive to pass on but I have no idea how much getting chairs like these reupholstered would run. It just seems like a ton of labor and material, if done right. I am sure leather would make the price go up near the new price, so that likely won’t happen. And I definitely wouldn’t want bonded leather or anything like that. Probably a microfiber or modern pattern is probably where they will end up, I’d the cost isn’t prohibitive. Have any of you had any experience getting theater chairs, recliners or other types of seating reupholstered? I have been doing some research and the pricing is all over the charts when it comes to upholstery work. You are also relying on person’s talents which makes me a little nervous for a project like this. I wouldn’t want crooked seems, strange pattern orientation etc. I would want them to look like they came from Zero Gravity, basically. Is this achievable? I also wouldn’t want to spend MSRP getting a pair of old chairs brought back up to their previous glory, or even half MSRP if I’m honest. To give you an idea, the model this person listed retails in the $3,500 ea. range. I have sat in them and they are amazing. As I get older, I am starting to realize just how comfort is. I tried to stop by a local upholstery shop today but they went away for a few days. So I thought I would pick your brains. Here are a couple pictures. First are the chairs I might buy, the second is how they could look:
  16. The amps are probably long gone but I would definitely reach out to Klipsch to check. Otherwise, you could measure the amp and hop on partsexpress and order another replacement amp. That sub is probably 15 - 20 years old at this point so you will likely have to go aftermarket, to get it back up and running. Good luck!
  17. My room is similar in size. Just moved some my Klipsch Ultra2’s to storage and sold the others, to try out some Aperion Audio speakers that I just got a “Youthman” kind of deal on. If I was in your shoes, I would just pick up a pair of RP-250S speakers and put them on stands. I am not all that familiar with the Heritage lineup but I can’t remember seeing smaller speakers that would timber match your front stage. Once calibrated by your Denon, I think you’d be quite happy with their performance. Here is how my room currently sits, since I have a similarly sized room. This system sounds surprisingly good, when compared to my $10K Ultra2 setup: I had that rug custom made, to run all the speaker wires so they are mostly out of sight. I would also grab stands that have built in wire management. I also grabbed some flat speaker wire so I wouldn’t notice it when I stepped on it. You might not need the flat wire, since you are on carpet.
  18. Not to confuse things but... I would go with the 6000’s, 600c and a subwoofer to start. I used to run RF-62’s with a RC-62 and felt the $/performance was a sweet spot in the Klipsch lineup. I have also owned a few RP series speakers and I preferred them over the RF II’s I just mentioned so I am sure you’d be happy. Since you would be saving money on the towers and the center, you could put that money into a 12” or 15” sub;) There are some great form members here that are also Klipsch dealers, so you can save money if you know who to ask.
  19. That amp will power those speakers just fine, especially considering the size of your room. Here are the amp specs, so others here can chime in: Power Output (main outputs; two channels driven): 50 watts / channel RMS; 8 Ohms; 20 Hz – 20 kHz; <0.05% THD. 80 watts / channel RMS; continuous; into 4 ohms. Those are RMS watts with both channels driven so with today’s inflated receiver specs, that’s probably closer to 100 - 125 watts. That little amp will be right at home powering those speakers.
  20. They should sound good right out of the box and even a little better with time. We will need some information from you to really have a chance at figuring out what the issue is. What Denon receiver? What settings are you using on the Denon receiver? How big is the room and how far away are you sitting? Klipsch is known for many different sound characteristics but muffled isn’t one of them.

    What I Got Today!

I added some new Blu-rays to the collection
  22. How big is the room and what source are you hearing the issue? Also, I agree, more clarification on “sound goes out”. I ask about the source as I have noticed that my speakers make a crackling sound, aka “breaking up”, when I am listening at higher volume via Xfinity HD. Same speakers, same settings at same volume, using a 4K Blu-ray Disc on my 4K Blu-ray player, I achieve crystal clear audio at any volume I could ever withstand. What source are you experiencing the issue, or does it persist across all sources?
  23. Factory Direct time! Our tireless pursuit for cheaper products, while expecting better performance, is backing ourselves into a corner. The days of going into a store to ask questions, touch and test products is short lived, for the most part. I hope I’m wrong.
