  1. I drive my 83's to the hilt with a slightly modified Hafler DH-500, so I push the 225 WPC envelope all the time. My 83's seem to scream for more.
  2. This is true. I decided to change my mind, but not on the HSU. I am kind of glad this happened, I really wanted a more recent one to begin with. I did find locally also, a VTF3 MKIII with Turbo. The lowest I can get him down is $550.00 for all. I actually went and listened to them, they are pristine, no scratches at all. Is the $550.00 worth it?
  3. Has anyone got any advice on the HSU HRSW12V? I am looking for another sub and saw this in the local paper...I know HSU is good stuff but, what about this old woof?
  4. I ran the Hafler out of the FR and FL preouts to my RF-83's and the Crown out of the Surround Left and Surround Right to my RF-3's. The set up menu still works as it normally would, even the ability to to to +/- 15db. I am not sure if the SR and SL will work in pure or direct mode though. I am running it in 5 channel
  5. Theres no doubt, either way you look at it. The older rock n roll had soul and drive. The kind of soul that just made you sit and stare off when it came on, and then break out in a spastic air guitar. The old motown had the soul but not the overall drive. Most of todays rock has no soul, there are few exceptions like the "Black Crows", Rusted Root, etc. Funny thing about Rusted Root, when Page & Plant got back together, back in the early 90's, I saw them in Knoxville, TN. I wondered who this "Rusted Root" was? They actually amazed me, now I have all their stuff too. Another band that had over 97% of their songs (in my mind anyway) that were great was "The Doors"
  6. I grew up in Wyandotte. We moved to Monroe when I was getting ready to go to high school. I played hockey in Plymouth alot, well every where really. I still make up to the area sometimes to see kids, they still live with their mom in Monroe.
  7. Achillies Last Stand...All time Classic!!!!
  8. I remember seeing Led Zep when they first opened the Pontiac Silverdome....What a concert!!! I had Led Zep tickets in my hand 3 years later, Bohnam died about 2 months before coming back to Detroit.
  9. I just picked up a Hafler DH500 amp, I am running my RF-83's with it out of the FR and FL Pre-outs. I also have a Crown amp and am wanting to run my RF-3's with it. Which pre-outs would be the best to run to the Crown? Would it be wiser to use the SB/Multizone or the Zone 2? Does anyone know how to select the correct set up for the RF-3's and the Crown?
  10. I was wondering if it was possible to use the FR and FL connections on my Denon and still use the Front preouts at the same time? I have an 2 channel amp pushing my 83's, which come from the Denon pre-outs. I picked up a pair of RF-3's this past weekend and was wondering if I could still use the FR and FL outputs from the Denon. Thoughts were since the 83's were already thru an amp, could I biamp the RF-3's using the SB amp, which is not used at this time + the Fronts amp? Otherwise I have to turn the amp way down for the 83's to get the sound from the RF-3's, which are at this time hooked up to the surround A/B connections.
  11. I am looking at a local sale, this person has sent me pics of 2 RF-3's in pristine condition. Is $425.00 a good deal?
  12. What would a decent looking pair of Heresy's be worth? Would they match up with my 83's or would the tones be too different?
  13. Ok, this was and somewhat is depressing. I bought a Crown 402 XLR amp to run my 83's out of. I made sure to hook the amp through my Denon AVR 3805 preouts and then the 83's out of the Crown. I made sure to buy a non-balancd to balanced signal converter for the RCA connections out of the Denon and the XLR conncetion into the Crown. Well I got the dreaded 60HZ humm. After checking all grounds, pulling plugs, seperatig wires and equip., re-grounding, adding grounds, etc. I finally find out when I pull the two prong unbalanced to ballanced converter plug from the receptacle, No humm through the speakers.....I wonder if grounding the converter box chasis would stop the hum?
  14. I have tried adjusting the phase. I have not tried to disable the corssover in Sunfire, I may have to figure out how to do that. I manually set up the denon, I dont have a mic to do the auto. I do use the Denon as the primary volume control, after I set the controls on the Crown. The fronts were set to large before I hooked up the amp. The amp is a two channel system. I will have to check the Denon for a 2 channel setting....Thanks Everyone.
  15. You know, funny you mentioned this. Last night I went thru everything, everything seemed as good as my understanding would let it. I have a Sunfire MkII sub and when I turned down the amp, almost to its lowest setting and then turned up the Denon, the sub was working. I just dont seem to respond in parallel with the Crown. So all in all, so far I have an amp that, if I want to hear my sub, can barely turn up enough to make a difference or else the increase in power to the 83's stomp all over the Sunfire. I like the effects of the amp, the signal seems so much more brilliant and clean. OK, my next question is, what do I do to resolve this?
