  1. I'm certainly not an expert, I'm just trying to learn something. So this would be my best guess: As a starting point I would use the actual distance listening position - driver. So when horn loaded speakers are used, the length of the horn path should also be reckoned. The speaker the furthest away from listening position should be set at 0ms. From there on I 'd take measurements (using REW and a cal. MIC) of, let's say 20 - 120 Hz sweeps, then change distance with 1ms, take another measurement and so on... until you see the smoothest response in the crossover region appear.
  2. @Chief bonehead the wavelength of 80 Hz is 4,25m or 13,12ft. But, please, continue your explanation. As I am struggling a bit to integrate my subs with my mains. If I get your explanation right, you mean that when you get your mains and subs time aligned, that doesn't necessarily mean you get the smoothest response in the crossover region.
  3. This summer I built a pair of THTLP's, which I'll try to integrate with my La Scala II's. As to determine delays, does anybody know the exact length of the horn path of a La Scala bass bin? The THTLP's (24,5 in wide) will be firing towards the ceiling, boundary distance will be 18,5 inches.
  4. USB connection is not a problem, so reading or writing with the Xilica is OK. It is the ethernet connection that is not working. I watched the Xilica tutorial films and I did exactly what they tell. Funny thing is that Xconsole displays the exact IP address of the Xilica, so I think there must be a way of communiction between the Xilica and the Macbook. Still, reading or writing (using ethernet connection) is not possible.
  5. I bought an XP 4080 to integrate a pair of Tuba subwoofers with my LS II's. I use a Macbook running the latest Sierra version. At first the Xilica didn't want to connect at all but after an hour of fooling around, all of a sudden they got connected. Don't ask me how I did it, but suddenly they connected using an USB cable (A-B). I also have an Apple Airport Extreme which works as a NAS, hub, router and Wifi station. I also connected the Xilica with a Cat5/Ethernet cable to this hub. When I open Xconsole using this cable the program finds the correct IP-addres but it keeps saying the XP is offline. I prefer this method of connection because then I can make adjustments wireless, while I'm sitting in my favorite listening position. Anybody suggestions? @Trentster5172 @Chris A @HPower Thanks in advance!
  6. I'm currently using a Parasound P5. But after hearing the Mac C 2600, this thing is absolutely on top of my wishlist.
  7. Not an easy question to answer. Probably lots of Klipsch fans won't agree with me, but this is my personal experience: 1) Khorns: placement is crucial. You should be able to seal them in a corner, and once they stand in their corners there are no more toe-in options 2) La Scala's: more versatile as placement is concerned, with Khorn-like performance, but have the disadvantage of digging not so deep as the Khorn. Anyway if you want bass extension down to 20 you 'll need a sub with both. Keep in mind that you 'll need very potent subs to keep up. So if placement options are limited La Scala's combined with powerful subs will do an outstanding job. Also both models do not need lots of power to drive them, they need amp power of very high quality. Your friend drives his Khorns with an MC 275. I believe you when you say they sound amazing! 3) Putting large horn loaded cabinets in a rather small room won't do them justice. So my vote would lean towards a smaller cabinet like a Cornwall or a Forte. Hope this helps ....

    TUBA HT

Same thing here... Tuba HT LP
  9. Hey, another Klipsch enthousiast from Belgium! Where are you located? The subwoofers are finished, but haven't heard them yet. I'm still waiting on the amp and X-over. I ordered a QSC DCA 3022 which puts out over 1kW/ch @ 4 Ohm. The X-over will be a Xilica XP 3060. I'm also waiting on a few other MDF panels to make two other cabinets which have to help integrate these big boxes into our living room, you know, there's always the WAF Not always easy to get all the materials you need during the holiday season... Hope to get them running by the end of september. The LSII's play in another league than the RF 7II's, they are a complete different story. The LSII is a very revealing speaker, they let you hear literally everything, with great ease, undistorted, also the weak links in your audio chain. The R-115's were the first to be sold, next I think will be the Parasound P5 pre amp. I'm looking for some tube pre, maybe a Mcintosh C2600 (hopefully within a few years). So if you add up all this, the La Scala II's come indeed with a heavy price tag.
  10. IMHO you can run them both ways. I'd suggest to try it out, and find out which sounds best for yourself. I don't know about the Denon, but my experience is that the crossovers used in AVR's are not on the same level as the ones used in active subwoofers.
  11. Hi Joe, I think you are supposed to set this frequency to your personal preference. My advice would be to turn off the crossover in your receiver and to set the crossover of the sub to your personal taste. If you turn them both on you get two crossovers in series, which is not such a fine thing. 80 Hz would be a good figure to start with (this is THX reference) If you use big floorstanders as mains, you'll probably like it more in the 50 's region.
  12. Just as I came home with all the material (birch plywood, drivers, ...) I found out Klispch announced a Heritage Sub. So I started to build anyway, I don't know what to think about the new Klipsch sub, it looks like a beefed up R-115SW with DSP on board. I really would not know if this one is able to keep up with the large Heritage models like Khorns and LS's. Now I am really hoping I won't be disappointed in these Tuba's.
  13. Hope these are able to keep up with my La Scala II's...
  14. I don't know what you use as mains, but I've never had any sub X-over as high as you say (100 Hz) La Scala II's placed in corners of a 33ft long rectangular room, as in my case, will do 55 - 50Hz. On my Parasound pre I have them cut off at this freq. The 15" subs I now have take over from there and I think I will let the new subs do the same. As you say the THT can be build in a few different versions, but that's not quite clear to me, from what I find on the Bill Fitzmaurice's site. Do you have more info on this?
  15. Here's a picture of the left side of my current setup, right side is pretty much the same (also with an R 115 SW) Thought of building a pair of TH's approx. 53 x 44 x 16 (in) and place them along the back wall (where now the R 115 SW is) and the right side of the TH against the black granite. Corner placement is not possible due to power and air ventilation outlets, there's also a radiator. And if I got Chris right the mouth of the TH should fire in the corner instead of in the room? Maybe a pair of table Tuba's is also an option to be considered, if it's okay these horns fire into the corner as well?
  16. After spending hours reading all kinds of threads on forums, I thought I had it all figured out: building a pair of TH's with dual Lab 12's is the way to go... I read about people using the Lab12 in tapped horn designs with nice results (Kraken 212, Kraken 112, Labhorn) Danley Sound Labs use a custom built, beefed up version of the Lab12 in their DTS 10, but since I'm not interested in levels of 110 dB at 10 Hz, I thougt the Lab12 or Lab12C in a TH might work just fine for what I had in mind. Chris A. uses TH's If you were in my shoes what would you do? Building something in the style of the KP 480, the 18" bass cabinet Klipsch made to go with industrial La Scala's, or do you know of an alternative for the Lab12 in a TH design?
  17. Thanks for the advice. The Khorns were just on demo for a week or 2, just to hear what "Heritage Series" are all about. I bought a pair of La Scala II's instead. Now I encountered a sub-speaker matching problem. Here on the forum I have been advised that horn loaded mains mean horn loaded subs. Since Klipsch doesn't have one in their line up (something to put in a living room) it 'll be a DIY project. I'm planning to build a pair of Tapped Horns with dual 12" drivers, probably powered by a crown XTI series amp.
  18. Thanks for the advice. I'll keep you posted!
  19. Thanks Chris. I've found some very interesting designs with dual Eminence Lab12 drivers, which are just a little bigger than the TH-spud you suggested. Which one should be most suitable for use in a tapped horn? Lab12 or Lab12C Danley products are not available here, so it'l have to be a DIY project.
  20. At last, found some time to work on subwoofer problem again. Tapped Horns: some people say that you shouldn't use TH's in combination with a short horn like a LS II. Anyone heard of this problem? And if so, why?
  21. Congrats on your purchase. You just bought one of America's finest pieces of audio history. And now you come to tell us that you blew immediately one of the woofers, shame on you!
  22. That's the problem, it was for sale for more than a year and nobody wanted it for not even a third of its price. I've seen some nice DIY projects with this driver though...
  23. Thanks for your feedback. Two years ago I made a bass reflex sub with an 18" JBL 2242H woofer to go with my 7's. It didn't work out well, I bought two R-115 SW's. So the JBL is on the shelf in our basement since then. Can you think of something to use this driver in a 'living room' sized cabinet. The JBL is an expensive driver and since it is just lying there...
  24. Very nice sub, not exactly what my wife had in mind, I think!
