  1. Does Klipsch have subs for home use in its line up now which mate with Khorns and LS II's?
  2. cough "Heritage Series" Subwoofer? cough
  3. Today hooked up my Parasound amps and other gear. After a 40 hr break in I was very curious to know how they 'd sound. I must say these LS II's put a big, big smile on my face! Hi-res highs, balanced mids, great voicing, tight correct bass. Very pleasant, laid back and non-fatiguing listening. Compared to my RF 7 II's, it's as if the fog has cleared. Also when the volume is turned up, tonal balance stays unchanged, not a single sign of stress on any component. They go LOUD, with the amp even on idle. A while ago I had a pair of 60 th anniversary Khorns, with the extra back panels (see earlier posts in this thread) They were placed in the corners (where now the LS II's are) but I could not seal them in their corners as they should. So probably the bass cabinet of the Khorn could not perform as it is intended. This resulted IMO in harsh voices and general absence of warmth. I think LS II's in corners definitely outperform badly placed Khorns, even with the extra back panels. There is 1 issue: I also hooked up my 2 15" subs (R-115SW). These subs are almighty when used in combination with my RF 7 II's, creating a very impressive soundstage with ease. Now with the LS II's they are simply blown away! The subs just can't keep up pace with the efficiency of the LS II's. I tried tuning with almost everything: changing X-over points, gains, EQ, PEQ. But the laid back bass is gone. Anyone suggestions on this one? Palladium subs? DIY 18's? @klipsch Please, would you be so kind as to make 'Heritage Series' subs? 18" subs for home use? You may ship the first 2 ones to Belgium.
  4. Hooked up my 27 year old Kenwood amp. Giving the LS II's their 100 hr. break in at easy listening levels, just with the sound of the radio.
  5. It looks like someone threw in some cardboard boxes!! I wonder what might be in them.....
  6. Hey Chris, Thanks for your answer, but could you be a bit more specific?
  7. This morning I was alone in the house, so time to do some serious testing. First I brought in damping material, as suggested. I use Jriver on a Mac, which I had optomized for use with my RF 7II's. So some finetuning could be done here. Then I turned the cabinets more into the room. This all resulted in more relaxed and smooth highs. Bass is still very much of a problem, since the bass cabinet is now way out of the corner. You can feel the bass cabinet is doing its job, but there is not much audible. So I was wondering: am I getting the complete picture here of what the speaker is capable of? (voicing, imaging, soundstage,..) So I was thinking, shouldn't I be better off with LaScala II's instead of Khorns? Considering the very bad placement options I have with Khorns. With La Scala II's I can use my 2 R115SW's for the lower extension. @Chris AThank you very much for your advice. Do you consider my power amp (Parasound A21) as usable for driving Khorns/Lascala II's?
  8. @marioramos I had the opportunity to try some other amp combos: NAD, Rega,... And I can say the Parasound makes the 7II's sing. Hi-res highs, tight bass. Class A operation is only in its first 8 watts which means you have rich, warm, somewhat tube like sound at 'easy listening' levels. The 7 II's have a sensitivity of 101dB so I think I have never used more than 8 watts on them. Also the P5 has a built in crossover. I have the A21 and 7II's cut off at 55Hz. Below 55 is done by the 2 R115's. Impressive....
  9. As you can see these are 60th anniversary edition Khorns, with the extra back panels. Though they were made 10 years ago, the owner says they were only in use for a few hours. I believe the man because they still smell like brand new. This is my equipment: Mac mini, Cambridge Audio CD/DAC, Parasound P5, Parasound A21 power amp, Supra Balanced interconnects, speakers are bi-wired with Totem Tress cable. I bought the Parasound A21 because of its high bias class A operation in its first 8 watts.
  10. Since a few days I have a pair of Klipschorns on demo. Mid/Highs sound very defined, hi-res, great soundstage... impressive. Bass is a bit of a problem, because I don't have 2 free corners to put them in. But, when the volume is turned up mid/highs become harsh and fatiguing. What could be the problem? Is it a matter of speaker-amp matching? Room acoustics? The owner of the Khorns says they have played for only a few hours, so maybe is it matter of breaking in?
  11. My pre amp (Parasound P5) has a built in crossover. So, I have the power amp and RF 7II's cut off at 55 Hz. I find the 7's sound more relaxed, more open, when they don't have to deal with real deep bass. Below 55 Hz is done by the 2 SW's.
  12. Thinking of upgrading my RF7II's to La Scala II's. Only problem is that there is not a single dealer where they can be listened. I live in Belgium. The only things I know about the La Scala II's is what I read about them on the WWW. Nothing but raving reviews, though some reporting a problem on delivering poor bass. Now I really don't know what to think about them, so, please help me out! My RF7II's are now powered by a Parasound P5 - A21 combo. I also have double R-115 SW's Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me!

    RSW-15 vs P312W

I had a P312W on demo for a week. I could buy it at a very fair price but didn't do it. To my ears it sounded too boomy, very little musical information, rather synthetic. The first thing that jumped to my mind upon first listening was: Bose. I can't help it, but to me it sounded very Bose-like. And I really don't like that typical kind of Bose bass. So I am very curious to hear how the RSW 15 compares to the P312W.
  15. Problem solved! Apparently it was just a matter of giving the Parasound amps time to break in. Unbelievable, what a difference, super sound! I also tried an EQ, but now I think the 7 II's sound at their best without EQ. Within a few weeks I have a demo at home with the Palladium Subwoofer. Does anyone have experience with this one? Very curious how it will blend with the RF 7II.
  16. Upgraditis: I changed my signal cables from standard to Supra EFF-IX. The interconnect between P5 and A21 is the balanced version (XLR) of the Supra. Speakercabels are upgraded from standard copper to Totem Tress cable. Speakers are bi-wired. Power supply also Supra. Now I find the horns on the 7's sound fairly harsh, does anyone have experience on fixing this? I already experimented with some things: putting extra carpets on the wooden floor in our living room, spikes on and off,... Horns still sounded harsh.
  17. As for your bass problem: I would add a subwoofer. As for your distortion problem: I would add a seperate power amp to power the RF7II's. This way you take away a lot of stress off your denon, and will make your surround and center speakers sound more relaxed(=less distortion). Though the RF7II's have a high sensitivity, they really like heavy poweramps. You can also experiment in relocating your speakers, changing distance to walls,...
  18. Klipsch delivers a set of spikes along with the RF7II's. Does anybody use them?
  19. Yeah, 15" subwoofers! Love them, so folks at Klipsch, please... But if Klipsch doesn't want to produce them anymore, that's OK with me, maybe 18" then.... :-)
  20. No.4 Neil Young: Rockin' in the free world No.5 Rare Earth: Get Ready (long version) No.6 Black Sabbath: Paranoid
  21. It's already been a while since my last post, and I haven't been able yet to make some time to get to the Parasound store. But meanwhile, the other dealer (the NAD guy) just made me another proposition: a Rega Cursa 3 (pre amp) combined with 4 (yes, four) Rega Exon 3 (monoblock, 125W@8Ohm). Tomorrow, here in Belgium, summersales will start. What do you think about this?
  22. If I hear one of these songs my day can not go wrong! 1) Dire Straits: Sultans of Swing 2) CCR: I heard it through the Grapevine 3) Bruce Springsteen: Dancing in the dark
  23. I have 2 amps: a Denon PMA 1500 (2x70w@8ohm) and a vintage Kenwood KA-1100D (2x160W@8ohm). The difference between the two (on the RF7MKII's) is remarkably. The more powerful amp drives the RF7's with more ease, greater soundstage, greater dynamics, better definition, at low 'easy listening' levels. This has nothing to do with blowing of roofs or upsetting the whole neighbourhood. I must agree: no matter how many watts an amp can put out, it's the first one that counts. But it's my opinion that the more powerful an amp is, the better the first watt will be.
