  2. I live in the B'ham area and may be able to pick them up for someone, PM me.
  3. At the advise of a manger at a Sherman Williams store I bought a quart of good quality enamel and a good quality small roller to paint my La Scalas. They came out very good. Proper preparation is key. If you are interested to know the exact paint and roller I used let me know and I will look it up.
  4. This is how I braced my cabinets, I also added ALK universal crossovers.
  5. Last summer I bought a pair of 1981 black laquer La Scalas for $750. A little dinged up but not bad. I repainted them anyway.
  6. Great amp, I have one. Good luck with the sale
  7. I work in the medical field, not a doctor but board certified in molecular diagnostics and cytology. I diagnose cancer basically. Something to keep in mind: Nothing is 100% effective and nothing is 100% free from side effects. Potential negative side effects have to be weighed against suspected gains. The human body is very complex and diverse from person to person, what works on me may not work on you. Don't blindly believe everything you read on the internet (or anywhere else for that matter) about medicine even if a "doctor" supposedly wrote it. The positive effects of vaccines do outweigh the negative. My kids were vaccinated as was I.
  8. You may have to pull the tonearm assembly out and check for binding wires or a problem with the anti skate. If it had been remover before, and if the anti skate was not set to 0 it may not be functioning at all. When disassembling you must turn the anti skate to 0 and leave it there when re-assembling. (I have a 1200 and made that mistake). KAB is a great resource for anything Technics 1200 https://www.kabusa.com/frameset.htm?/ So is Vinylengine: http://www.vinylengine.com/
  9. I 2nd this. I put K28's in my HIIs. Keep in mind that there is an impedance difference, K24 is 8 ohms, K28 is 4ohms. So the crossovers should be altered to account for it as the crossover point will change, if not they could sound "boomy". I have seen people post that did this without making a crossover change and were satisfied with the sound. I am an obsessive tweaker and used the excuse to make new external crossovers. Stuffed em with polyfil also. Klipsch sells a kit to upgrade the HII to an HIII too.
  10. As an experiment I took 3/4" plywood 8" long and cut it to fit tightly between the side of the doghouse and the cabinet side. It really toned down the vibrations, I probably will leave them in there.
  11. I know this topic has been covered a million times but I have a question I did not see posted anywhere concerning the bracing options for the La Scala bass bin. I know about the Volti type braces and thickening the sidewalls. Has anyone just put a brace (perhaps 1" x 3") horizontally across the front with a notch in the middle to clear the doghouse? Thanks David
  12. Has anyone here put glass tops on black La Scalas? I was planning to do this after re-painting them but now that I have done that I like the way they look and am not sure it will improve the looks. If you have done this please post a photo. Thanks David
  13. I had KG4s with torn surrounds on the 8" drivers. I took them to a speaker repair shop and after a month of serching they could not find a replacement surround material that would work.. They suggested getting replacement drivers on the bay, which is what I did.
  14. Along the same lines, has anyone made full length grills for La Scalas. It would appear to be an easy DIY and could look good.
  15. My understanding is that the A/4500 requires the CT-125, not the other way around. I am actually thinking of ALK universal crossovers
  16. I already re-capped the AA crossovers that were in it, so I do not plan on changing the crossovers. If I do change them I will build some myself.
  17. I was wonder if those that have Bob Crite's CT-125 tweeters in their La Scalas would chime in with opinions. I am not dissatisfied with the stock K-77s just wonder if the change is worth the price (in your opinion of course) considering it as an upgrade. With my KG4s and Heresy's I put titanium tweeters in and liked it, not an option with the La Scala. Christmas is coming soon and I was thinking of asking Santa to bring me a pair
  18. I bought a pair of 81 La Scalas about 2 months ago. After verifying all the drivers were good and listening for a few weeks I just replaced the 3 capacitors in each crossover. If you can solder it is easy, replacing the entire crossover isn't needed unless you want something different. I may look at additional bracing later.
  19. I was a licensed TV repairman in the 70's when everything had tubes in it. I have used quite a few tube testers and they are not that reliable as far as trying to pinpoint a problem. They will always tell you if a tube is shorted, open or completely fried but will often show tubes that are just out of spec as good. The best way to test a tube is to replace it and see if the circuit works. My point is don't expect a miracle machine.
  20. She really loves Pink Floyd - Shine on You Crazy Diamond, so I put the Wish You Were Here CD in first thing after getting them hooked up. It worked Congrats, excellent choice of the cd. I was thinking excellent choice for wife. Well said!

  22. Well I finally got my La Scalas set up and man they are awesome! 1981 black laquer with K-44 woofers. I am sharing them between my HT and two channel systems via a switch I built. I also replaced the old caps with new ones. I had always heard that La Scalas lack deep bass but I am not really hearing that. They have great bass, much better than my Heresy's (which are now rears in the HT). Now they don't "deep rumble" and I still use 2 subs in my HT but I no longer use a sub for two channel listening. I have them in a 13 x 23 room in corners on a short wall. Of course they did not meet the WAF, "too big" etc.. Well after hearing them they are here to stay
  23. I have used stuff from Parts Express I believe is called "Speaker Black" with good results. Never on a Klipsch speaker though.
  24. Did they have a rink in Birmingham? I just bought a pair of La Scala's from someone selling equipment from a skating rink in B'ham. They sound awesome!
