  1. I have been taking the Heresy IIs apart today to clean and seal the cabinets, I noticed the squawker on one of them was hooked up backwards, the black - wire was on the tab with the yellow mark and the yellow + wire was hooked to the unmarked tab. I am not sure what to think about that [:S]
  2. I was wondering that also... Someone that knows please chime in.
  3. Hey All, Just picked up a set of Heresy IIs, the badge says Signature Edition, not sure what that means. The tags are gone off the back, I'll check inside for serial numbers soon The wife gave permission after I agreed to sell the KG4s
  4. Where are you located? I am in Columbia, TN about 20 miles from the Emotiva headquarters. I have 2 of their subs and the customer service from them is great! Emofest is a good party too
  5. The best way to describe the the change in sound is cleaner/crisper/tighter from my ears.
  6. I completed the rebuild of my KG4s and this is what I ended up doing Resealed the cabinets New 14awg wiring New gaskets Titanium diaphragms Homemade crossovers with Solen FastCaps (tried Sonicaps but like the Solen sound better) and Goertz inductors (in the woofer circuit) Covers on the passive radiators to keep cats and grandkids out The sound is more crisp and clean, the bass less boomy, which is what I like. I think I am done playing for now, maybe... Here is a pix of the crossover from the PR hole
  7. Welcome to the forum, I bought my KG4's about a year ago and joined this forum. It is a great bunch. [] I am using a Yaqin tube amp and run them on the 4 ohm tap, the people that make the amp told me to run the 4 ohm tap during amp break in and after that either one. SS amps are a little pickier but it still shouldn't make a difference, try both and if one sounds better use it. If your KG4's have the original capacitors in the crossovers I would recommend changing them too, if you haven't done so already. I covered the passive radiators with covers from Part Express (to keep cats and grandkids out) no effect on the sound. David
  8. It's not really history but one year ago today I joined this forum. It's been a fun and informative year [] Thanks all [Y]
  9. Actually I used to be an electronics tech in the 70s and could build an amp and I though about it, but I am glad I didn't and got the Yaqin MS-20L. The stock Chinese tubes sound OK but I got a big improvement with Russian NOS tubes, and they are inexpensive too. I thought about upgrading the speakers to Fortes but the wife likes the KG4s and doesn't want me to get rid of them.
  10. The Yaqin I have is a tube amp, and it does sound great. I don't think I could build one and match it.
  11. Hey guys, I also posted this at AK but wanted your opinions too. I was wondering what else, if anything, I could do to get the best possible sound from my KG4s. They sound good now but I like to tinker and was thinking of what else to try. I have already replaced the diaphragms with titanium from Crites. Replaced the caps with Sonicaps from Crites. Played with the placement and height and ended up with them in corners on stands 12" tall, this works best for my space. No affect on sound but I put covers from Parts Express on the passive radiators to keep grandkids and cats out of them. Here are the possibilities for mods that I know of: 1) Replace the inductors (maybe just the bass iron core inductor) 2) Replace the 27 year old wiring 3) Re-seal the enclosure from the inside Any ideas are welcome and remember that I not doing this because I am dissatisfied but just want to see what I can get out these speakers. And it keeps me busy [] Thanks, David
  12. Hang in there, my thoughts are with you.
  13. When I was an electronics tech in the 70's someone brought a Fender guitar amp into the shop and said "it smoked and burned". When I took it apart the fuse was wrapped in foil, a total loss. That is always a bad idea... Find the reason and fix it [Y]
  14. He mentioned the albums a long time ago and had told him if he wanted to get rid the albums let me know, I didn't expect that low of a price though... I did a quick count and it is well over 300 LPs You should have seen the look on my wife's face when she seen them piled in the living room [] [] Because of the price she couldn't argue [Y] [Y]
  15. One of my staff is cleaning out his apartment in preparation of a move. He said he had some albums he inherited a few years ago and asked me if I wanted them. So I said "sure" and drove over at lunch today, expecting 15 or 20 albums. This is what he gave me, mostly classic country but a good mixture genres. [] I'll be cleaning albums for a while [Y]
  16. I wondered about that, I don't have specs on the stock inductors to be able to match the dcr.
  17. I replaced the caps on my KG4 crossovers but not the inductors, because from what I remember of electronics school they do not degrade like caps do. Would replacing them make a difference in the sound? Thanks David
  18. I seen in the Garage Sale section someone has a set of Chorus IIs with covers on the passive radiators. This looks like a great idea, I have cats and toddler grandchildren and I cringe whenever I see either go toward the speakers. My passives are perfect right now. Do you think putting a grill like this http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=260-428 over the passives will degrade the sound? Thanks David
  19. Shhhhh.... Don't let the boss hear that.... I wonder if she would notice????
  20. Those paintings were done by an uncle of mine from Lancaster, PA that was an artist, about 40-45 years ago. He passed away about 10 years ago. Thanks Boxx, I am certain he is looking down and smiling right now []
  21. She was skeptical until she heard it. Her favorite album is Pink Floyd WYWH so I played that first. But yes it met the WAF [Y]
  22. I finally convinced my wife to let me try the 2 channel system in the living room (12x22) as we had it in the 10x11 computer room. I put the KG4s in the corners with an old receiver from the garage as a test and WOW. So I moved the whole 2 channel set up today. Paul Klipsch was right about speaker placement, even with the low end KG4s the difference was amazing. I cured my hankering to upgrade speakers (for the time being). Here is the set up now.
  23. Still working on the WAF and I don't think the black La Scala's will fit the bill. How much can I expect to have to pay to get a set of woodgrain La Scalas? Black ones seem to be going for $600+ Age really doesn't matter and replacing xover parts is fine. Thanks David
  24. I live about 20 miles from the Emotiva headquarters, and I have used their customer service. They are good people [Y][Y] And Emofest is a blast if you get the opportunity to attend.
  25. I was in an FYE store in AL last night as I heard they started selling vinyl. What they had were about 50 or 60 used vinyl records that were sealed, no way to look at the disc and see the condition. Some of the jackets looked pretty rough. There were no gradings on the outside. The prices ran from $4.99 to $29.99. I didn't bother asking as the store was crowded and from conversations I have had with the manager I doubt they even know about record grading (He told me once $50 is too much to pay for a turntable needle) I have never seen someone seal a used record, what do you guys think about that?
