  1. I am looking at getting a small phono preamp to replace the old Technics receiver I am using for that purpose, it is purely a space issue. Do any of you know anything about this: http://www.phonopreamps.com/tc750pp.html It has a better s/n ratio than the Technics so I am thinking (hoping?) that the performance would be equivalent Thanks David
  2. Hey Rick, I'm not really interested but wanted to say that it is extremely cool of you to do this. [Y] David
  3. The cartridge is a Dual TKS 45E, the exact replacement stylus and the Ortofon 10 both pop and crack about the same but the Ortofon sounds better so I am using that. I set up the pressure according to the manual. The turntable is level I tried turning off the ceiling fan and that seemed to help I guess I should say that I used to be an electronics repairman in the 70's and worked on a few turntables back then, so I do understand what happens, but I am definitely rusty. Thanks David
  4. Sterling, How can I tell if new vinyl is quality, I did order a couple from Soundstagedirect but haven't received them yet.
  5. I recently acquired a Dual CS-1254 with a TKS 45E cartridge, I am using an Ortofon 10 stylus and also have a new generic DN 145E stylus. The issue is that I still hear some popping and cracking on clean new vinyl, with either stylus. I clean them with a solution that is 25% isopropyl alcohol and 75% distilled water with a little mild soap, all are reagent grade (I work in a lab) and microfiber cloths. I also use a DAK brush before playing, which helps. I know this is "low end" for Dual, would upgrading the cartridge help or would a better turntable be the best option? Any suggestions? Thanks, David
  6. Pink Floyd-Shine on You Crazy Diamond The Who-Won't get Fooled again Jimi Hendrix-All Along the Watchtower (I know this is a Dylan tune but Hendrix transformed it)
  7. I would check all the connections in the crossover first, could just be a bad solder joint or wire connection.
  8. I ordered the Yaqin MS-20l today. I'll post a report after I get it in and set up. [] This is my birthday present from my wife. [Y]
  9. I use OUT Indoor/Outdoor repellent to keep our cats off the speakers. Spray a little on a towel or something and put on top the speaker, you may have to repeat once a week or so for awhile. I mainly use it to keep them away from the passive radiator on the KG4's. For that I put a piece of aluminum foil behind the speaker and spray a little OFF on it. Don't use too much as this stuff has a nasty odor.
  10. What do you guys think about using a Yaqin MC-10L or MS-20L with KG4s? I am thinking seriously of getting one from the Canadian dealer.
  11. Yep, Emotiva is located in Franklin, Tn. About 15 or 20 miles north of me. They are very good people with good customer service. I am just not sure if the sound would be good with the KG4s, as opposed to the other options.
  12. I am looking at adding an amp to my 2 channel system and use the Technics as a pre-amp, down the road I hope to upgrade to a better pre-amp. Can't spend more than $400 on the amp and this is what I have been looking at: NAD 2200 used for $250 Emotiva UPA-2 new $389 (I have Emo subs and love them, also the Emo headquarters is 20 miles from my house) Onkyo M-282 new $300 refurbished $170 What do you think would go best with the KG4s?
  13. I had the crossovers out when I upgraded the caps, I seen a tag in there but I did not see a date on it. I have a feeling that curiosity will get the best of me and I will pull a driver and look. Thanks for all the replies, very helpful. And I LOVE these speakers []
  14. I have been looking at the post info on Klipsch date codes but cannot seem to figure this out. This is what is on the paper stapled on the back on mine: P/N 09000241111 same on both S/N 24957 on one and 24958 on the other W/O 4581 same on both Does anyone here know what the numbers mean? Thanks
  15. One of the drivers on my KG4 (K-8-K) is blown and the butyl rubber is torn. I have it at a speaker repair shop and the person there is having trouble finding the butyl rubber surround and said I may be better off if I could find a replacement. I know these come up on Ebay quite often and there are a few there now. Here is my question: Midwest speaker lists this as a direct replacement for the KG4 (among others) http://w.mawebcenters.com/midwestspeaker/ecommerce/home-audio/woofers/8/mw-audio-mw-5082-8-woofer.html In your opinion would I be better off buying the new replacement or an old K-8-K? [*-)] Thanks
  16. Thanks for the specs!! [] I was thinking of an Emotiva UPA-2, I have 2 of their subs in my HT system and love them. And what is even better is that their headquarters is 20 miles from my house. But I do not have to get Emo. It will be later this summer before I can get an amp (birthday in August) and I am certainly open to suggestions. If I can find a good used deal I can probably talk the wife into an early birthday present.
  17. I am setting up a 2 channel system for music only. I picked up a pair of KG4's on CL and have hooked them up to a Technics SA-390 receiver that I bought new in 1986. I want to get the best sound from the KG4's so I started by replacing the caps in the crossovers with Sonicap from Crites and I plan to put in titanium diaphrams, if they ever come in. The Technics has pre outs and I was thinking of adding a separate amp, do you think adding an amp will make much of a difference? Thanks
  18. I believe it is some type of rubber, I have a photo but am having problems posting
  19. First post here! Does anyone know where I can get the parts to refoam the 8" speakers in a set of KG4s? Thanks David
