First, thank you all for the advice. I do want nice looking speakers. I live in a well decorated, contemporary home. My guess is I'd do some touch-ups right away and then refinish them some time down the road so they're "furniture grade" as you say. Given the pictures, what IS a good price? If I go back and make an offer that is fair and it doesn't work out, I'd probably feel better than just walking away.
Actually if these are the right pictures - they aint that bad - 1000$ for sure they are worth it - logos and grilles

It was a hemi V8, if I recall.
jerol
they can keep the siren - I want the hemi motor -
-
That is a stock 426 Himi, there were a few of these made.
My dad and i were in Arz in the 60s, some kind of Fly/in, we could hear an air raid siren somewhere in the distance, no biggie they tested these critters all the time in the 60s.
Later that day someone flew in from a local air strip, the guys were all sitting around talking and this subject came up, i listened, one of the guys said the siren came was based at his local air strip, they started talking Mileage, one went and fetched his Nav map and they found the strip was over 40 miles away, something to do with the canyons Amplify the sound.
Later that year dad and i got to see it, it was one of these, but green in color.
no it was not a 426 ,, as these were built in the late sixties only - these sirens wer built during the World War II and Cold War era from 1952 to 1957 (second generation) by Chrysler, its power plant contained a newly designed FirePower Hemi V8 engine with a displacement of 331 cubic inches (5.42 l) and producing 180 horsepower (130 kW).[1]

Any upgrades? Again, photos help. Not a great deal IMHO. I know it's difficult....but I'd keep waiting.

I'm a proud owner of Klipsch Heresy I's in in walnut. The only problem is that both grills are missing the Klipsch Logo. Does anyone have a spare pair of logos / is able to produce them? I'm in Europe, but willing to pay the shipping costs to complete my babies.
Thank you!
just to advise you that the cheapest option for you is to buy the latest pie slice logo from klipsch -a set can be sent via mail - these are a stick on product - just peel and stick on -they would not be exact for the year but they are original klipsch -good luck
Do you mean those?
But they aren't the real ones, are they? Thank you for your reply!
yep - these are the ones they use in the Heresy 3 -cornwall 3 -lascala 2 - Khorns - I think they sell them for 12$ each -original klipsch

Are they the same as the EV t35, if so I might be able to find some here locally for you. I have a connection but he is difficult to deal with, I am planning on dropping in, in a couple of weeks I can ask for you if you still need. Plus I need a reason to stop in other than why I am stopping in, that I way I can score better deals
if you do find evt35 originals - can you please get back to me with a pm - tx
thanks Randy, maybe after you get yours you could then sell them to me?
I was under the impression that you had already spoken together - no problem - I will bow out - they are all yours -

the expensive ones with the plastic cups ala K77F are no better than the aftermarket - the real difference is that no soldering is needed
and you know this because you have tested them like Bob Crites tested them?
you can call Simply speakers -1-800-511-3343 talk to the man -

My name is Mark, and I am a reformed Global Warming Advocate.
Yes, I was once an aggressive ambassador for the idea of man made GW being a disaster for mankind. One day, I woke up. Man is but a temporary infection upon the earth. Nothing he does in his brief couple million year reign is going to stop the history of the universe from unfolding. And when you get right down to it, who cares? Our lives are so short and meaningless to the universe that it just doesn't matter. Use the oil, make all the plastic you please. Dig up the diamonds and coal if it amuses you. It's silly and doesn't matter. The 5 billion year old earth is on a course that has nothing to do with man.
What does matter is your specific, actual, personal, life of compassion for your fellow occupiers of the space - human and animal. The rest of the argument about "earth" is pointless. It's a rock in an infinite universe of rocks. Do something that matters.
This is just plain wreckless.
We see this in nature all of the time. A species has abundant food, overpopulates and destroys its habitat and dies off. We are no different except that we are smart and should have the ability to avoid this.
Should have? Let me stop laughing, first. Go ahead, spell out the rules. Who gets what kind of car? How much gas are they allowed? Who gets to fly? Who gets to keep their home at 72F year round? How big should our house be? How often can we get a new car? A new suit?
Unless you can cite the specifics, there are none. And if they're are no specifics, there is no way to avoid limits on anything. It might sound good, it might feel good, but it's pointless preaching.
Consumption is mechanistic. If you can't describe the machine, you can't control the consumption.
the analogy is very real when you consider a country like Venezuela - that sells their fuel to the people for 18 cents a gallon -and nonetheless - they cant buy anything else -
-
Every time someone mentions global warning, I immediately think of the movie The Day After Tomorrow!
Iunderground mines use scrubbers on their combustion engines - and it works - they will come soon or later to all gas engines to reduce pollution -it is just a question of time -
I work for a Class 8 truck manufacturer - the big rigs on the road. The federal regulations regarding the exhaust coming out of those trucks makes the it cleaner than most automobiles. We are already there.
they use the urea liquid solutions from Germany -through the cat -

One of these doesn't suck.

People keep saying there is a science argument. Really? I know of no scientist in the world who doesn't believe the laws of thermodynamics. None. Never heard of an argument there. Not one.
The Sun will grow into a red giant, consume the earth and explode, following the ever increasing entropy of the universe. If you want to kill yourself, or stop using plastic bags before then, yippee! I shall not be bothered trying to defy the Universe. Fill, 'er up, please!
let;s hope there will be some fossel fuel left to power the spaceships - when you move the whole planet - you\d be better to have a few spare quarts -and another spare planet -ooops - can I please take my Cornwalls with me to Mars
So you advocate man F#%$ing up another poor un-suspecting planet ??
we are human after all

The perfect fit between horn and driver - interesting point you are raising. Currently I am using the (new to me) Altec 808 - which should be a pretty good match for the 511B (one assumes), but the same driver (with adapters) on the K-400 sounds on the whole more balanced - right now....go figure
.
Wolfram
plus you can change the symbiotic diaphragm to an aluminum one for better sound -or is it that you like the symbiotic for the mids -
-
Yep, I know there is a cost difference. He did however, ask if anyone returned to listen to a K400 to see it in a new light. I did and (unfortunately) the new light wasn't as favorable as I had previously thought.
the k 402 you sampled was coupled to which driver
-
I think I have an extra pair. Just moved so they are packed up somewhere.
how much do these go for - are these titanium diaphragms made by klipsch or by another maker -
-
When i have items to get rid of now, you guys get first choice, if no sale, then i just give it to the neighbor kid.
that is what we call - good neighbors

you are comparing a 150$ horn with driver used to an 900$ horn used , I would be congested as well in that I would need 1800$ to feel the difference - but I agree totaly - after all it is used in the jubilee and the cinema series -
-
THose are Jensen P15LL woofers - somebody GET THESE!
the Jensens P15LL woofers are that good - 300$ a pop - very musical and expensive to recone - they show up in a lot of leslie cabs -
-
you are also comparing drives on horns don't forget that. The driver must match the horn and very many don't do that well or very well. The exit angle of the driver must equal the entrance angle of the horn and of course exit diametre of the horn must match the entrance diametre of the horn as well if you want the best possible performance of both the driver and the horn combination. It is uncommon to see manufacturers pay this kind of attention to this but they do on occasion, look at the cut away photos of the JBL LE85 which shot the exponential horn profile starting inside the compression driver at the exit of the phase plug and seamlessly running to the mouth of the trumpet horn. That is how a driver an horn should be mated to obtain optimum performance. Sorry I do have pictures but cannot attach them. If I find one I will attach it for you to see. Best regards Moray James.
you are saying that the K55 V -k51 v - k55 m are perfect fits for the k400-k401 or k600-k700 - - are the k53 the same with the k701

Well, since it seems we're being civil:
Speaking as someone who frequently works with the NWS, the SPC, NSSL, and other national weather agencies - as well as an enthusiast, and former Meteorological student...
The fact is...data is insufficient in every camp. There's no more proof of global warming, as there is cooling, or otherwise. However, speaking also as someone who has done archeological surveys and geographical analysis - I can say that the Earth has been much warmer before. Speaking as a history student I can also add that the Earth has historically gone through warming and cooling cycles due to planetary wobble. This is the reason there is evidence of rain forests in the Savannah for example. We only have 150 years worth of data to go off of to assess the "modern era" - and factually, we only have about 70 years of global data - 40 if you only want to count the METAR analysis as well. That's hardly enough to establish a trend.
Interesting fact btw: While it was reported the Earth was warmer this year, ambient analysis - which takes into account atmospheric temperatures in between weather stations, as well as sea surface and continental surface temperatures - was from -6.8 to -0.4 C cooler than normal.
Another interesting fact: Solar temperatures have increased by ~0.09 C every year since measurements began.
what is your take on the arctic meltdown -
Randy, at this point I attribute it also to wobble.
Siberia has had an increase of over 200% in snow cover and has been consecutively running 6 to 11 C below normal since 2010. There were even reports of minor glacial formation on the north shores. That being said, I also am discounting the assessments made in relation to the Greenland caps - purely because no LIDAR data has supported a thinning of the sheet.
would the wobble increase the collision or closeness to an asteroid hurtling towards Earth,

Wow John, this is great history and information. It's so sad that the products caused so many problems. My unit is almost definitely factory built. I don't think the kits used this style cabinet. When I get down to storage, I will look on the back and cross my fingers. Thank you.
the kits tthat were to be assembled were very different from the speaker drawing kits that were available at a lower cost -
-the complete unit was a non-assembled speaker - -that had no bearing on the value of the unit once assembled -
-as these units were shipped across the world - the complete kits were much better protected for transport via ships-trains or trucks -dont forget that we were in 55 -
a skilled carpenter would open the box and could do a much better fitting work than a factory cabinet that was subject to mass production - the parts were all pre-cut at the factory -and the carpenter would follow the instructions , the same way , a worker would at the factory -
