  1. I have used the JJ and EH power tubes in my 500B. I think the EH ones sound a tad better but I do run my 500B without the wood case so the extra size is not an issue for me. Laters, Jeff
  2. Find yourself an older Popcorn Hour A100 or even a newer one or a similar one from a different brand. They will be able to stream music from your network. Oppo bluray players can also stream from network or PC drives. Additionally you could look at a NAS from QNAP or similar that will run a music app or PLEX or KODI etc. The raspberry PI is also a good option but not really plug and play. You will have to fiddle with it. Another option is to get an old notebook with an optical or digital output and use that with something like Media Monkey. I have used all of these options and for me the network media streamers like the Popcorn Hour are the easiest and most reliable method to do what you want (most of them will also accept an internal HD or USB HD that you can play your music from). The notebook media monkey is great when you really want to explore and manage your music library. I have over 70,000 songs that I manage with Media Monkey. Here are some good links to get you started: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/39-networking-media-servers-content-streaming/ https://www.cloudmedia.com/ http://dune-hd.com/eng EDIT: Forgot to add that you can get a USB DAC so really any older notebook with work, not just ones with a digital output. I use this one. I like that I can also covert my old mix tapes and LP's to digital if I want to https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-UCA202-BEHRINGER-U-CONTROL/dp/B000KW2YEI Laters, Jeff
  3. Late to the party I suppose but I have an Oppo 105D hooked up to a Fisher 500B driving a pair of vintage Cornwalls and it sounds, well, awesome. Laters, Jeff
  4. Here ya go: Ebay: http://stores.ebay.com/Edwards-Electronics WWW: http://www.edwardselectronics.net/index.html Laters, Jeff
  5. Great thread. Nothing to add other than you can never have too much bass Laters, Jeff
  6. Not Houston but I have an all Cornwall 5.3 system and an all Heresy 5.2 system here in Austin if ya all want to drive North for a bit. Laters, Jeff
  7. Good Morning - I was on the main klipsch.com website looking at the Sales and Attic areas and the pictures etc. are not loading correctly on Google Chrome.
  8. Busy! Moved to Austin, TX and trying to settle in. I am sure there are Klipsch folks here but I have not found them yet! Laters, Jeff
  9. I have to say I am really impressed with the technical and aesthetic aspects of all the new products. The past couple of years have proven that Klipsch finally understands that their strength and appeal are rooted in classic design and awesome sound. The technical advances and additional product lines expand on this and will carry the company forward and provide income so they can keep producing the speakers we love. Can I suggest a new line of business? I have seen that several high end car manufactures will let you send in your classic to them to be factory restored. I for one would love to have an option to send my speakers back to the factory to have everything gone through and refreshed. Perhaps this would not work because the shipping would be expensive but I still like the idea of being able to send them a Cornwall and have it come back factory fresh. Laters, Jeff
  10. So having owned Cornwall's and Heresy's for over a decade now I can understand the bright harsh and in your face comments. My suggestion is to add more bass. Having sufficient subwoofers to balance out the efficiency of the horns makes all the difference especially when going for those movie theater/club/concert levels of volume. The problem is that the bass simply can't keep up with the horns as you crank up the volume. If you have some subwoofers it balances out beautifully. Laters, Jeff
  11. If you want to fix the discoloration on the woofers just use a foam brush and india ink to re-dye them. I did that with both woofers on my pair of designer Cornwalls and it worked great. Search under my user name for pictures. It took maybe 10 minutes and the cones are still a deep black today. There is no need for fancy rubber paint or anything like that and the ink sure as heck won't affect the sound. Laters, Jeff
  12. Well to bad I live in TX. I have a 5.3 system with Cornwalls (the 5 part), SVS subs (the .3 part) and a Fisher 500B that always powers the front mains. I really enjoy the sound! Oh since we are sharing pictures I attached a picture of the underside of my clearly non PCB Fisher amp
  13. You can never have too much bass! I have a 22' x 16' room and I have 4 subwoofers and 5 Cornwalls. One of the subs runs off the center channel output of my Fisher 500b for bass re-enforcement in pure two channel mode (also active all the time even for movies, TV, gaming, etc) and the other 3 act as the LFE channel for everything else. I think it sounds perfect I can't wait to see how your build turns out! Laters, Jeff
  14. Yup the woofer is different. The speaker is rated at a higher power rating hence the fuse and more robust woofer (250W Max vs. 100-105W Max). I have in my notes that they use the K-42-KP woofer as opposed to the K-22 or K-24. It is the pro version of the Heresy woofer and adds increased power handling at the expense of low end bass performance. Laters, Jeff
  15. Soooo..... When will the turntable and play-fi stuff (especially the soundbars) be released? Laters, Jeff

  17. I dug up some old photo's of my HIP-II. You should be able to tell if you have HIP I or II simply by looking at the banana plugs in the back. Mine are clearly marked HIP-2. Once again I have to state for the record that these make AWESOME center channels. The vocal reproduction is outstanding on these models. By the way I had to take these photos because when I originally purchased the speaker and posted that information here, no one believed me that this model even existed Laters, Jeff
  18. Awesome great find. I can tell you these make a great center channel speaker. I have 4 Heresy 1's with a HIP II as the center channel. This works out great since the HIP speakers really (re)produce great vocals and that is what most of the center channel is. I generally have to set it about -2 or -3 db down from H1's since it is a tad more efficient. Laters, Jeff
  19. Here are some of the ones I use: Mickey Hart - CD - Dafos - This will test everything! Beethoven's 6th symphony - CD - various recordings Chemical Brothers - CD - Exit Planet Dust Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon - SACD Led Zeppelin II - vinyl - Japanese Pressing GRP Jazz Sampler Volume 1 - CD - Mountain Dance and In the mood are my favorites Diana Krall - CD - Wallflower (or anything really) Grateful Dead - various
  20. I don't live in Houston or have Heresy's III but I do live in Austin and have Hersey's I just in case you can't find anyone locally and you still want to hear them. Laters, Jeff
  21. It really is pretty simple. If the back is removable it is a Cornwall I (all drivers installed from the back). If the back is not removable (all drivers installed from the front ) it is a Cornwall II (not to be confused with the much earlier Cornwall II from the sixties). Your serial number is also stamped which they did not start doing until after 1984 (it was handwritten prior to that time). If I had to guess you have a very early production Cornwall II. The serial number is missing a digit but if we assume that they simply dropped the leading zero in front of the 6 then it could be read as produced in 1985 "85", the sixth week of the year, second week in February "06 or 6" number "1841". Otherwise the number does not make sense since there are not 61 weeks in the year and the last 4 digits are supposed to be the speaker number. I don't know if that helps or not Laters, Jeff
  22. Yup call me crazy but I was just thinking that a nice leather covering would be awesome. Laters, Jeff
  23. Add me as a third to recommend Frank. He fixed my Fisher 500B and did additional fixes above and beyond what he quoted for the same price. It sounds awesome! Laters, Jeff
  24. Probably too late for this but I will throw my hat into the ring for coloring the woofers. I used black ink. Here is the link: https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/102668-how-to-make-your-grey-cones-black-in-10-min-for-less-than-10/ Laters, Jeff
  25. Chris - Not a problem I had a lot going on last year family wise around that time. Good to see that there was a meeting! Dave - Yeah sorta lurking. I have not made any changes really to my systems so I just sorta of lurk and slip in a post every now and then when I think I can contribute. Also I have been busy with my other vintage project - Buster my 1967 Ford Ranchero Laters, Jeff
