  1. So what is the cables I need to connect the amp and receiver together?
  2. I am going to be getting an emotiva upa-2 for Christmas... Given they get more in like they say. I want to be able to hook it up right away. So my question is, what cables will I need to connect it to my onkyo? I have read people say interconnect cables, I typed that into monoprice and it turned up 67 hits. So as this will be my first amp I want to assure I have the right stuff. Your help is much appreciated and I apologize for the 'stupid' question.
  3. Hello all. I just wanted to comment on having two subs vs one. I finally got around to hooking up my sub 12 in the back next to my couch. And it makes a gift difference imo. I am not sure if they r calibrated perfectly. I only used the Mic that came with my receiver. But it brings s whole new deminision to the lows while watching movies. So much so that my girlfriend (whom I may add could care less about this sort of thing) said how big of a difference it made in my system. More than the height speakers or new Hsu sub or new receiver ever did. She could actual tell that something was different this time lol. Anyways if you are I'm the market to make a large improvement in Ur low end. I would suggest not just a newer sub, but a second one.
  4. Also my receiver had speaker inputs for rear surround, front height, and front wides.
  5. I understand that the height speakers are an 'extra' option. My question is with my receiver am I able to power 9 speakers? Or is buying both rear surrounds and front height surrounds s waste of money?
  6. So I should either pick front height or rear surround? I am planning on getting an xpa-5 so would that make a difference?
  7. I have an onkyo ht rc180. It says it is a 7.1 receiver. I know they have receivers that say they are 9.1. My question is can I run my onkyo with 9 speakers? 3 main 2 side surround 2 rear surround and 2 front heights? Thanks for your help. What is they difference between the stated 7.1 and 9.1? My onkyo has all the inputs.
  8. I tried that cd in both my xbox and ps3 and both gave poor results. I Jus got my blue ray playwright back from Panasonic a few minutes ago. Plugged it in. Popped in the cd. And wow, the bass is incredible from it. I'um not aure what format or whatever my blue ray player has that my xbox and ps3 doesn't. But its night and day difference. Just thought id let anyone that's interested know.
  9. After a week of delay I finally got to watch a movie using my new sub. Picked up my ps3 and grabbed the new transformers on the way home. I still havnt had time to properly calibrate thurs sub, or try and hook up my sub 12 (which will involve running a new line). However I am very impressed with the quality of bass coming from the Hsu. I am not sure what to call it, so for a lack of knowledge I will just say that the bass on the Hsu is much more rich compared to the sub 12. After hearing both you can pick out which one cost more lol. It seems to fill the room much more effortlessly than the sub 12 could. It is also louder with a deeper bass to it. With music (Pandora from my onkyo) it can keep up with the fast passed bass lines much better. On particular songs I could hear my sub 12 struggling before where now the Hsu beasts rite thru with ease. Over all I am very pleased with it, it is the improvement I was looking for. StephenM I appriciate all your help, I am happy with the outcome. One thing that still got me was that cd the came with the sub. Even in my ps3 it did not produce much if any big bass lines like stated. I know it can pack a punch after watching transformers, but the cd doesn't show case it.
  10. To be honest I didn't get to play with it all that much (got a almost 2 year old I had to get into bed) but I didn't rerun the audyssey. I have it in the front left corner (same as sub 12 was). I have the phase to 0 and the gain is at almost full (should it be at half?). The Hz is at 80 and it is plugged in with just the LFE as was the sub 12. Also I have it with one port plugged (which is how it say it can go the lowest to 18Hz). I did only get one port plug, I thought I was going to get 2? I also just changed my mains to be crossed over at 80Hz, they were at 40 Hz (which I know is way to low for rf-52's). Normally I bring out a few blurays to test out a sub, but I do not have that option. After further playing the cd it has test tones for the L/R mains and different sub frequencies, those were felt lol. But I still am not getting anything from the music tracks? I do not think running the audyssey will do much because alls it does is set my subs to -15 everytime. I raised it up to +12 and still barely felt anything during the music tracks.
  11. Decided to drive home tonight to play with my new toy. First impression is it is large, but looks nice. It came with a cd, however my ps3 is at my dads lake house and my bluray player is back at Panasonic getting fixed, so the only thing I have to play it on is my xbox, and honestly it has no bass at all... Not sure what is wrong? Is it just because I am trying to play it with the xbox? I won't have my bluray player back til next week probably, so given that is there anything I can do to test out the new sub? I do have the Pandora on my reciever, and it was pretty impressive compares to my sub 12. I won't be able to run a new line to play both the sub 12 and new Hsu at the same time til this weekend. My dad is bringing my ps3 home this weekend as well so ill be able to give a better idea of the sub later. However I am still wondering why this cd, that state don't turn up the sub all the way or u may damage it so to the bass on these tracks, doesn't produce any bass when I play it? Any ideas? Thanks.
  12. I am considering getting a larger center channel speaker for my set up. There is alwys great deals on the RC-3 (like at the moment $75 for one). I have heard great things about the RC-3, but since it is older am wondering if it is better than the newer RC-52II? And if it is better would it blend well with my RF-52s? (which I thought were 52IIs but are only regular 52s, center is a 52II tho)
  13. Just got shipping confirmation for my HSU. It isn't coming until Monday, so that means I won't get to play with it for 2 extra weeks since I leave that same morning for job training... it is going to be tough lol I am praying Fedex can knock a day or two off and get it here this weekend... fingers crossed. After I finally get it I'll let ya know what i think, and if I am able (with the help of the HSU staff) to get it o blend with my Sub-12.
  14. That is what I think of it. I plan to put the Hsu up front and the sub 12 next to the seating area. Hopefully I can get wk to sound good together. Worth a try b4 I try and sell tho I think.
  15. I just pulled the trigger on the HSU. I'm pretty excited to try it out. I'll post a review of it after I get it. As long as it comes this week (I leave Monday morning for job training for 2 weeks). Thanks for all Ur help. And my review won't have much to compare it to. Just the sub 12 really. Post ill post my impressions anyways.
  16. I have my own room to do as I please, she has the rest of the place lol. So size and apperance is not a big deal to me. I am going based on pure performance. If the HSU is the way to go then thats what I will do. I do not think I will be disappointed with any of them, I am just trying to make the best decsion based on bass. I would actually enjoy a big sub it will catch everyone eye when they enter the room and they will want to hear it! Is the HSU going to be good for movie, music and games? In that order of use. If so I think you have me sold on a ported.
  17. No reason, I was just thinking that the Legend and X-Ref were the best in my price range. Apparently I was mistaken lol
  18. So your saying that the HSU 2.3 is better than both the X-Ref 12 and Legend? Even if it has the weakest amp. The X-Ref 12 has the most powerful amp, and weighs the least. The Legend weighs alot and has a decent amp. The HSU has the weakest amp but weighs much more than the Emotiva. I'm confused!
  19. Taking your suggestions into consideration (StephenM) and the SVS is a little out of my range, the Emotiva is pushing it. However after visiting HSU Research website the HSU VTF 3.3 does not seem to be for sale any longer. Is it discoutinued due to the 3.4?
  20. That is odd about your dissatisfaction with Epik's support team, normally I hear nothing but good about them. I will propuse my question one last time: Epik Legend: $560 to my door Emotiva X-Ref: 630 to my door. It is approx 2500 cu ft room (20x15x8) with 2 openings, one in the front of the room with a door and one in the back that is open. Carpet on floors. Thank you all for your help, any input is appreciated. $70 difference between the 2. Price goes to Epik, amp goes to Emotiva. Please help!
  21. how about a 2500 cubic ft room? Also I was heart set on the Epik Legend, the runner up was the Emotiva Ultra 12, then this xref came out and through me for a loop. So it is now between the Epik Legend and the Emotiva X-Ref 12. After shipping Epik the prices aren't to much different, so which would be best? I watch alot of movies (blu ray) and also listen to bass filled music. I would prefer something that got pretty low, and want it to fill the room with bass. I plan to put my Klipsch Sub 12 in the back by the listening area.
  22. Anyone heard the new emotiva xref 12? I finally start my job next week so I'm gonna be ready to buy soon. Let me know what you thinly compared to its competition. Thanks.
  23. That is kind of what I was thinking, but again I didn't want to waste my time if it was going to for sure sound horrible. I mean I already have the powered amp (klipsch sub 12 BASH amp) and a 12 inch pioneer premier gold coned car sub. Should I just make a perfectly square box? Ported? Sealed? Also when I replaced my amp in the sub 12 it had a little 3 wire set with a cap plug thing connecting the 3 wires. Then the single red and single black. I know what the red and black are for, but where would I connect the 3 little blue wires connected by the plug in thing? The replacement amp came with the 3 wires tied into the connector and plugged into the amp on the one end of the wire, then at the other they were just all 3 glued together? I wasnt sure what to do with it so I just spliced the new and existing wires together (rather than figure out where to put the 3 glued end on the speaker. This was the first time I have ever opened up a HT sub. I know in a car set-up there is a single blue wire that connects to the deck and the amp, telling the amp when to power on. Is this the same thing for the HT sub 12? What do I do with this wire?
  24. So the lfe input on my sub 12 went out and klipsch sent me a replacement amp. I Jus installed it last night and now have the old amp. Which works if you use a y adaptor on the rca so u can plug into both the red and white (doesn't work as good as new but still it works). I also have an old 12 inch car subwoofer laying around. I was wondering if it would be worth making a box and trying to assemble a DIY ht sub out of this stuff? Any ideas or suggestions would be great. And if it would be a waste of time that will also be helpful. Thanks for any input.
  25. how much was it to ship that sub 12? PM me please.
