This will play 78's. It's a Rek-O-Kut L-37, Audio Technica AT1007 arm, and Nagaoka MP-110 cartridge with a 3 mil. stylus for 78's. 78's sound fine when played with a stereo cartridge. 78 grooves are wider than 33 and you need bigger stylus. I got my 3 mil. at lpgear.com.

How about a rebuilt Magnavox console amp? Lots of documentation on the internet. Here's my 6BQ5 version. I also have a 6V6 version.

Here are my two console amps. Both are well documented on the internet with lots of photos of the underside showing before and after restoration.

Get down at eye level and check out the little curved arm that raises and lowers for cueing. Sometimes it's set too high and actually lifts the arm ever so slightly as the arm travels across the record. Push on it from above to be sure it's returning to its lowest position. It's adjustable with a tiny metric allen setscrew and can be lowered. As you're looking at the arm from a sideways vantage point, is it parallel with the record? Lots of people like it to be slightly tail down (arm mounting portion lower than needle) and this cures sound being overly bright. The Rega is a good, almost fuss-free arm. Does this Electrovoice have the whizzer cone or not in this application? All of the SP12 I've looked have the whizzer but since the Heresy is a 3-way maybe it didn't use the whizzer. Thanks. tubav

I did a quick check on ebay completed listings for 150's and $150.00 was the going price. I never use dust covers. I would probably ditch the stock arm and go with something else. Take the outer platter off and watch the drive pulley for signs of wobble and listen for motor noise. If you are wanting plug 'n play this probably isn't it. You will probably need to DIY. I've got a couple of Technics direct drives I'd let go of: Technics SL-1200 w/arm and SL-150 minus arm. Go to vinylengine.com and check those out. Let me know if interested. Have fun.

The price is a little high. A new tonearm would be good either vintage or a new Rega RB250 is pretty fuss-free. Lots of Thorens info at theanaolgdept.com There is a great rebuild of a TD150 with lots of pics. Have fun

Sealed cab, thicker back with 2 vertical braces and weatherstripping, side to side brace, top to bottom brace. New caps from Bob Crites. Sounds terrific with rebuilt Magnavox 6V6 console amp. Terrific forum, lots of help. Thanks

Can someone point me in the direction of a DIY 2-way system similar to what Bob Crites has done with the Heresy CS.1? I'd like to build a bass bin and just have the horn and crossover sitting on top of the cab. Using less expensive drivers would be a plus, espcially if I don't like it so I wouldn't be out much. Maybe I ought to just go pickup a pair of Peavey SP2's cabs I found on Craigs's list for cheap and try those. Only the woofer is missing. My Heresy I's are coming along slowly. I've got one crossover rebuilt and cabinet braced and I'm going to A-B with the stock one. Thanks for any and all suggestions. tubav

I just redid Kg3's and '84 Heresy I's. I used Minwax stains on both. On the Kg3 I used dark walnut because one speaker was lighter from sitting in the sun so I gave it a little more to even out the color. On the Heresy I used Provincial because I didn't really want to change the color, just freshen the finish and hide the flaws. I just use a soft cloth (old cotton sock) and wipe with the grain. I didn't put it on too heavy. It takes several days to not feel tacky. The Minwax products have a sealer in them so I didn't see the need for an additional clear coat. Have fun.

I've not taken the time yet to order the upgrade kit from Bob Crites. I was first just going to brace one cabinet and do an A/B between it and the unbraced one. Thanks for the reminder.

The old compression bolt from the cabinet back into the back center of the woofer magnet trick 'ala Herb Jeschke "Adventures with Voigt Pipes" trick? I made a thicker back, sealed the cabinet with a bead of glue all around, and have expandable oak dowel braces under tension top to bottom and side to side. This would tie it all together and hopefully give better bass note delineation instead of all the cabinet resonance masking it. I listened a little yesterday before adding braces, and was satisfied with the amount of bass but it was a little smeary because of cabinet talk. Good idea, yes or no? Everything I've done with the exception of the bead of glue is reversible and can take them back to stock in case I want to sell 'em. Thanks for any and all suggestions. My dad had Cornwalls during my college years and I've been wanting to re-visit Klipsch but don't have room enough for anything bigger than these '84 Heresy.

I'm a refugee from Vinyl Asylum. I just acquired a '84 pair of Heresy I's with E-2 crossovers. I would like to do the changing tap/adding resistor mod I found. Will that work on the E-2 crossover? I found two schematics from an Albright post: one with the tap changes and resistor addition in red, and one labled E with EXPR in red. On the EXPR the tap had already been changed.
