  1. This is what Snopes has to say - a little less conspiritorial and a more reasonable explanation.

What this means is not, as has commonly been claimed, that the dairy industry is seeking permission to add artificial sweeteners to milk (they can already do that), or that they are attempting to change the rules so that they don't have to disclose the presence of artificial sweeteners in the ingredients listing on milk containers. What these groups are requesting is that they be allowed to sell milk which includes artificial sweeteners without being required to include prominent front label notices on the packaging describing the product as "reduced calorie" or "reduced sugar."
  2. For those of you with a penchant for the classic novel Charles Dickens "Christmas Carol" might be interested in this MP3 audio file ~

It's a reading of the book by a man named Doug Brown who read books for WOI radio for years and years. He is really, really good and does a wonderful job. I think kids like this also, tho it's a little long.

It's an unabridged reading, so it's about 3 hours long but it's the PERFECT thing to put on the player while Christmas activities (cooking, present wrapping, zoning out after large meal...) are going on.

You can download the file , here's the link.... then listen on either ipod or PC or burn it to a couple of audio discs and play them while driving. There is no DRM, it is in the public domain, from Iowa Public Radio.

Merry Christmas! (if you're into that sort of thing, Happy Festivus or whatever)[:D]

REMEMBER TO "RIGHT CLICK, SAVE AS" TO SAVE THE MP3 FILE

    RIGHT CLICK, SAVE AS

  3. Well, I certainly appreciate the heads up on this - If indeed, at any time, shadow accounts were able to be created, it's a huge issue.

However, I have googled this quite a bit and most of the info is from more than several years ago (most from 2006 & 2007) and I couldn't confirm that shadow accounts were ever an issue.

I also personally have been unable to create a shadow account.

Therefore, I declare this issue solved and fixed until I see evidence to the contrary.

  4. Yes, that's true, the mail does goto all of those accounts.

My point is that you can't create any new accounts with a unique password in order to shadow an existing account.

I've tried it, twice, as mentioned above.

You say you've tested it, what am I doing differently?

    More detail:

I created a new gmail account "testmeblind". Immediately afterword, attempted to create test.me.blind & couple of other variants. I could not create any other accounts for testmeblind, they all showed as being used.

I reversed the process and created another new account, using periods. Then tried to create variants... no go. Same result, others were listed as already being used.

    ??????????????????????????????????????????

  5. You are certainly correct in that emails sent to an address without dots show up in my account, one that does use dots.

However, testing with totally new accounts, I've been unable to create a shadow account.

Meaning that I created a new account with dots. Tried to create a shadow account without dots, gmail said no, account already exists.

So, I tried it the other way, created a new account without dots and then tried to create a shadow account with dots, same thing, no go.

It appears to me that google account creation doesn't recognize dots either. Maybe this is thier "fix".

Not good news, at any rate.

  6. Agreed on avoiding a Tom-Tom. I hated it, worse than useless when it would send you the wrong way.

My android phone GPS works really well, and no, I don't have to fuss with it while driving.

  7. I'm sure not against the idea of building a new machine, with new parts. I could certainly end up with a fast, quiet machine. At around $1000, I suspect. I need something with horsepower, the goal would be the~

Security system - 24\7 streaming of 4 video feeds, with software motion detection, remote notification and recording.

Media server - Jriver, not a big deal. Streams audio\video to no more than two devices at a time.

Home automation - 24\7 RS-485 communication to various devices around the house. Data collection, storage and other database functions. I have to keep this functioning, god forbid that the bird bath wouldn't auto-fill, the birdies would be not happy!

The Dell server is one fast machine and the price was right - $100. But again, might be money lost if I can't stand the noise.

I hadn't thought of out in the garage! That's a good idea. I've always wanted to run a wire out there and automate garage functions. I could put the server out there too then. But I have a detached garage, I'll need to get my housemate to dig a trench to lay PVC in and then pull the wire. Not hard to do. Hmmmm....

  8. heya guys... I've been watching this thread and understand the goal and what you're trying to put together.

I probably haven't gone quite as "deep", but I do have a complete setup that does stream to my HT, my 2 channel and of course the phones. Also using Jriver and had it all running on an older gaming PC that I wasn't using anymore.

But when the gaming PC started acting up, I thought I'd try to consolidate my security system, automation system and media streaming into one machine, thus saving space and hopefully, energy.

Bought a used Dell rack mount server (I do have a rack in the basement), the 1750 with 3 SCSI drives in a Raid5 config. Standard setup with dual 3ghz Zeon. Although I've heard these machines alot in server rooms, I had no idea of how loud the fans (and this is what made me post here, after reading your fan comment) were in a residential setting. Freeking loud!

I'm having trouble getting XP installed on it due to drivers and with the fans that loud, I'm considering abandoning the server option. Last night, started testing it with less and less fans. Looks like it will not get too hot with a few fans missing, but when I remove more to get the sound down, things (especially the CPU's) get really, really hot. Blistering hot in fact.

Considering trying some sort of box to keep the sound contained but this server, although darn fast, might not work. I may pull my old gaming PC back out, fix it, remove the honkin' big video and a few drives, maybe change out the power supply for something smallers and just use that for Media and security, while keeping the automation on it's own PC.

    Oh well.

  9. Whoa, those are in fantastic condition! You really scored IMO, beautiful.

What you say is true, I didn't even ask outright but only lamented in a post that I'd like to find a black\industrial set of KP-201 for the basement.

A forum member here saw that and offered up a set of exactly what fits my room, complete with tripods. Bam! Just like that, and two weeks later, they are mine.

    Congrats on your purchase.

  10. Ha, you caught me, that's the one new speaker there. It's one of the $299 RW-12D's. It all works well down there since it's a small room, concrete with the back wall completely carpeted, and the side walls dampened nicely. More work to be done, but I'm not in a big hurry.

  11. I haven't found a great method for organizing and distributing it all either, not without spending big bucks.

I'm now working with jRiver and it does seem to be the best so far.

I'll be doing some more testing tomorrow and reading up on the JRiver forums. I'm trying to avoid building a media server, trying to use an existing NAS.

I've not seen the problem you have tho, with all the files not grouping? And this isn't hard, generally uses the album name and album artist. Is it possible the album artist field is being left blank?

  12. Heh, we stuck the Halloween masks up there because I've got a big blacklight up above the masks glow But I doubt they'll stay. And we have access to a fair number of field rocks around here, lots of neat rocks too as the glaciers dumped most of what they scraped up on their way here.I'll probably put more down there. It's fun to drive the little 4x4 around on them.

The center speaker is a KLF-C7 that I bought to match the KLF-20's upstairs but having a center channel for music is pretty lame.

I'll post another pic when it's done, but that's the general idea.[<:o)]

  13. I wasn't able to push hard enough to see anything wrong, but I'm rather on the weak side due to some medical crap.

So, it wasn't until I took the Mid out (this is Moray's advice, I've found him to be spot on when it comes to KLF series) and stuck my arm inside and whacked pretty hard with my fist. I have at least one back panel is that certainly loose in the middle and maybe at the bottom.

I really want mine fixed. I've read Moray's long thread several times and I'm not sure I'm up to the task. I wish you lived closer to me Moray, I'd send you cookies and ask if you would fix my cabinets like you did yours.

I'm in a quandry about what to do.

  14. I owe a bit thanks to t-man for his help with finding just the right KP-201's for my HT setup. Yes, this is all a by-the-seat of the pants, Garage Sailing here and stalking Craigslist kind of HT. LOL, quite different from what I see that alot of you guys have.

I have to admit, buying used Klipsch here is a thoroughly satisfying experience... upstanding people on this board.

Well, such as it is... I thought I'd post a picture of how the setup will be, although we're doing a bit of bed liner repair on the wall, and the cable management hasn't been re-done yet. And the reciever will be moved to the center.. uh, someday. Arf.

  15. Moray is correct. I've half-heartedly pounded around on my 20's and didn't think I had an issue.

Now, I've upgraded some of my equipment and at louder volumes thought I was hearing a rattle.

This morning, I did take out my mid-range and pounded harder on my boards, and one certainly has a loose

back board. The rest seems OK at this point. But once I start taking them apart, I'll want to fix it all while in there.

I'm not a carpenter type guy, not really looking forward to it.
