That must have been where I read it. I know that I read about 3 different how-to's before I did the replacement, and after all that, it turned out to be ridiculously easy. Enjoy! I thought mine were actually too bright at first, but it's been 6 months now, and I've also changed some components in the stereo cabinet. I have to admit, the best change was putting in a good source, my KLF's are sounding better than ever.

Same thing with mine. I googled it and although I can't remember the exact answer, I do recall that it wasn't a sign of anything wrong, and yes, it's normal. On the first one of mine, I wiped most of it off. On the second, I left as is an just stuck the new Ti on and called it good. I'll subscribe also, because I've put all of my gear in an older TV cabinet and I'd like to close the doors while using the system. I have newer equipment that outputs menus and such via HDMI, so I intend on only having the monitor on top, everything else but the speakers hidden. I'm addressing the heating issues now, tho this whole thing is subject to modification at any time, with no notice. LOLL At this point, I'm using one 140mm silent PC fan, rated at 60 CFM, which is a little low so I bought 4 of them. I've got one installed now, and it is really silent! Nice! Moray, that's cool on really getting into your interests and hobbies. I'm sure that's gratifying, I know that I'm enjoying my foray into the audio world. OldSlow, (The OP) you should take heed of the slant\riser advice as well. My informal tests do tell me that lower to the floor and back up against the wall = better bass. I haven't raised them up higher than 14" but that showed less bass, and slightly better, uh, "clarity"? I agree that is the in your face aspect that you mention, Moray. And again, to the OP, whether or not you have a sub may dictate (within the range of your room acoustics) how you orient your Heresey's. I do have a sub that fills the room, and I always have liked brighter, in your face type of sound. So mine will be off the floor (tho I'm unsure how high yet, still have to try the 20"). As always, YMWV and of course, look at my room. Mostly concrete (tho I have sound dampening curtains\wall coverings that you can't see in the pic).

Moray, man, do you live and breath these things? It sure seems like your advice is nearly always the best in regards to the some of the Klipsch heritage line. That makes me want to ask, I don't think I've seen it spelled out ~ are the "older" 3-ways the speakers referred to as Heritage? At any rate, I'll try the 18-20" off the floor if that matches the center. Or gets it close, I have the center tilted up and exactly 1.494540° because it's just slightly lower than ear height. So, that means I should do the same with the H2's?

Heh, thanks. I've been kind of reluctant to post a pic of my cave, it's just so much crap compared to the fantastic spaces a lot of people have here. I mean, come on, it's a raw basement with some paint. Yes, the lower H2 is on a riser, I'm trying to decide if I like them higher or lower. I'd really like to find an industrial set, black with chrome corners. The wood doesn't match well with the Rhino Liner. har!

It seems a bit odd trying to be using Heresey's for HT mains, but we use what we have, eh? (grin) I'm using H2's and was using a RC3II for the center. It was ok I guess, I'm not all that great of a judge, I suspect. A few days ago, swapped the RC3 for a KLF-C7. Used audessy to recal, and good to go. it does sound much better. I can hear the dialog much better, something I had trouble with before. I'll still have to check, audessey seems to put the H2's to small and I like them on large. I'll set the C7 to large also and see how that sounds. I have a new bluray of Ben Hur I'll try later today. I've seen several klf-c7's for sale here recently.

I recently found a small AV electronics repair shop - get this - just outside the small Iowa town of Knoxville. I've stopped in and talked with the owner, a guy with longish hair but showing his years with a balding top. He can talk about vintage gear all day long, has stacks and stacks of tech documentation and apparently has been doing this for quite a few years. I felt comfortable enough that I just took him my Marantz 250 with a blown channel. I'm betting (and hoping) he does a good job with it.

Zero issues (with CDs that can be purchased on iTunes), over 100 lossless audio CDs with auto-correct on four machines. I tried it and it works. The auto-download function was just upgraded with the latest firmware update a couple of months ago. Your statement simply isn't true!!! I'm an idiot, you are correct that there are no artwork issues with music purchased thru itunes. I missed that you specified buying from itunes.

I'm a experienced technician and not afraid of working with a system in detail to get it to run the way I want. I worked for more than a few months trying to get itunes to perform even normal media duties and it failed. It simply is not acceptable (IMO). I could list the problems but to address the point about auto-download of album art. LOL, just try it and see how well it does. Then install a itunes on another machine and point it to your library in which you've spent days manually adding artwork and correcting track names. Guess what, the new itunes will NOT read that data! No artwork will transfer. Gah, I could go on and on. At this point, I'm still exploring alternatives and haven't found what I'd call the best for my use, and so can't recommend a replacement. Jriver is next on my list. I might come back and add more about media setup, but the link above is quite good, I couldn't add much to it.

I'm right in the middle of switching away from Itunes and gonna try Windows Media Center. Itunes has really gotten under my skin and can't take it anymore.

Just an update here... Ironsave is exactly right about the KSB1.1's. They are a bit overpowered by the Heresey's (as front mains) and barely make it as surrounds. But my center is still the RC3II and it's not keeping up with the Heresey's either. But I've got it balanced out pretty well.

I love seeing these old threads brought back. I'm not sure when this board started, but I'm betting it wasn't much before 2002. Thanks for bring this up.

Oh wait, leftwinger, you didn't do it right. You need to increase the font size, and then double up on the details and throw in some confucious proverb that you like. The whole goal being that you want your signature to be bigger and longer than anyone elses'. I'm purchasing new equipment jsut for the satisfaction of being able to make my sig longer. Don't get me started on this. Heh, I clearly remember the day I was in a high-end AV store about 10 years ago when larger screens\high def was just getting going. I was getting the spiel from a salesman and after about 10 minutes of me mostly complaining about the wasted screenspace, he got frustrated and called me a - "Anal retentive f**k". LOL, I'm still chuckling about that. Needless to say, I didn't purchase from him that day. But it's all good, he's a good guy, I still goto that shop.

I have a set of KLF-20's. I'm also spending an appropriate amount of time finding the right amp. Unfortunately, like you, the speakers are locked into position and it's not the ideal room. Oh well. So, I'm fussing around with different amps and will hopefully settle on one that I already own, I don't want to buy another amp. And anyway, it seems the pre is making a bigger difference. But I'm also finding a similar lack of ..uh, everything until I put some wattage into the 20's. Cranked up, they really come alive. One problem is that I move at a glacial pace. Moray, I haven't made but the most cursory inspection of my 20's, so I can't tell you for sure that they don't need work. But there seemed to be alot of glue along the edges I could see. After living with the Ti tweeters for awhile now, I'm certain that I'll be putting in a set of Ti mids. The Ti tweets really are nice and are putting the squawker to shame (at least I think so, I don't think this is confirmation bias). And of course, that will require some Crites XO's. ohh, I'm getting excited already. When I land on a final config (hopefully this year, LOL), I'll sure post it up.

I don't know anything about how Klipsch is handling this, but in a general sense, during the holidays here alot of business's are running at half-staff and at half speed. Maybe give them another week?

I haven't been using my S4A's much. I do recall tho that the middle double click never did work for me (new Mesmerize). That probably doesn't help you much.

Update. Well, I'm still fussing with all of this. I'm not really asking more questions at this point since I think I have more research & testing to do, but maybe if I comment on what I'm hearing, someone will have a comment or suggestion. So, in an attempt to get an idea of what to strive for in SQ (sonic quality, is that what you call it?), I stopped in at a local, highly regarded, been around forever (with the same sales and tech guys) where I bought my Marantz SR-4023. Told the guy there to let me listen to some full range speakers with a cost of under a grand on his SR-4023. He hooked up some Monitor RX6's that retail for around $750. The sound from those Monitors was really, really great. Hard to compare, I know, but the "quality" I perceived was far beyond what I'm getting at home with my KLF-20's. They seems so clear, with great highs, mids and bass. Imaging like I never hear at home either. No hiss at louder volumes. I think they were about 90 db sensitivity as opposed to the 101 db on the KLF's. http://www.monitoraudio.co.uk/products/silver-rx/rx6/ Nope, I'm not making a direct comparison and I'm now trying to determine if it's really the KLF's or if my source is somehow inferior. At the store "Audio Labs", the source was a nice Marantz SACD of some sort. Maybe that's the crux of the biscuit, as FZ would say. So, I'm fooling with a couple of different sources (although I don't have a SACD or a working TT right now), ...and will try other things as I think of them. I really wish my KLF's were small enough to just take to Audio Labs and try them there, on their system... but they are too damn big for me to move easily. I also may have to look more closely at the KLF-20's, as Moray once asked me and I didn't really do it.

My honest opinion is that it's a gamble. I bought one, had pretty good luck with it. Sometimes slow on loading the BR disc, but everything works. I bought another one for my mother, and she had problems with it not staying on the wifi network, it kept dropping off and making her setup again. I checked online and seems like alot of people had the same problem. She also had a problem with the sound out of her TV flaking out with this player, rendering movies (both netflix and DVD, she has no bluray) unwatchable. Since mine worked, I took mine to her house, set it up and it's been working fine. I was going to send her's back, but I hooked it up at my place, and it stays on my network fine, no issues. No issues with the sound either, that must have been some incapatibility between her TV and the 670. I find the online services clunky, and I only use the netflix service, the others aren't useful at all for me. I find the online services navigation on my xbox far better than the LG. But again, it does work. I do like the remote - it has big buttons.
