  1. Haven't.had much me to check mine out, but the voice commands do work on my Galaxy. S mesmerize.
  2. Well now, I have to ask... Isn't Pandora still playing pretty much all LIVE music recordings? I had tried Pandora on my phone awhile back and despite picking out non-live music, Pandora kept feeding me live recordings 80-90% of the time. Or did they fix Pandora so that live only comes up occasionally?
  3. Finally got these things out of the Yukon. They are a 2 way speaker, with~ get this, SAND inside, I think in bags on the back baffle. I'll be opening these up in a week or two, we'll see if the bags still hold sand. IMO, they are a great looking retro speaker. The cabinets aren't in pristine shape, but still in good shape, and the cloth grills are too, except for one stain at the bottom of one. I really, really like the retro cloth. How do they sound? Whew, pretty bad. They have an OK bottom end and the mids\highs sound muffled. Maybe because of the cloth? At any rate, they do have a decent projection to them, I think the imaging might be OK but it's hard to tell without much on the high end. They do have tone controls in the back, and they need to be cleaned so maybe that's part of the problem. For $20, I'm intrigued. I'll open them up and see what kind of shape the drivers and crossovers are in. Hopefully, the sand is still in it's place! [8-|] EDIT: Well crap, I forgot about this website and it's image size limit. At any rate, here's the Kick Arse Close-up of the 50 year old cloth
  4. Wow+ listening outside to eliminate the nasty room, that is a great idea. Its getting towards cool weather with fall being here so I Beyer hurry. I'm going to do this. Don't know why I didn't of this before.
  5. They look great. Same price as I got my HII's for. So, instead of back\surround, they are 2ch music? (the Archies, LOL).
  6. I got a email stating that mine have shipped. So, I'll be able to answer that question... in a few days. []
  7. Man, are those Crites' Ti's bright! I really like bright, so when someone here mentioned those Ti's, I checked them out and decided I needed a pair for my KLF-20's. Then, while ordering, I opted to get a second set either for a future set of KLF's or the KP-201's. Installed the first set in the KLF's and wowsers! They are almost too high pitched (I'm sure that's the wrong terminology). but they might still be breaking in (if they do that). It does seem they aren't as bright as when I first put them in, but also maybe I'm getting used to them. At any rate, I might put off a second set of KLF's and so was thinking about the KP-201's for the second set of Ti's. But here's the deal- the KP's are in the basement, currently being used as front HT. That's OK but that basement room is still mostly concrete. Concrete floor with a rug, concrete walls with significant sound panels (LOL, I hung 6'x8' cheap carpets from Home Depot). But there's still exposed concrete and the KP-201's sound bright already down there. I guess I might have answered my own question here. Maybe I should modify my question to ask: Who else has installed the Ti's in HII's and do you think there will be as large of difference as in the KLF's, because the KLF's had the cheap poly right? While the tweeter in the KP-201's look like something different? TIA
  8. That makes sense to me. I only cancelled the DVD mailing part, I kept the streaming. Looks like they are trying hard to add new movies. I have no idea if this was the plan all along, in the long run it doesn't make a difference, it's what there doing. Were not canceling because of the rate or even if it's two companies or one. The reason were quitting is because we really don't use either service enough to keep them. Just when all of this news started with them we realized we were not using streaming or the Blurays/DVD's enough to keep paying, it would be much cheaper to just go rent when we did want to watch something.
  9. Heh, I didn't know this was a subject that has been studied. I do like the looks of that chair. Since I've been listening to more music, I'm finding my chair not as comfy as I'd like it. I'm keeping my eyes open for a CL find on one, something that reclines too. I've just thought of another thing I saw on this board~ Someone had said their listening "quality" was higher when they were using an older system without a remote. He felt the effect of just setting the controls and then having to leave them alone, not fiddling with the remote all the time increased his focus on the music. I think that's a good, valid point.
  10. Interesting! [] I also have reveled in a couple of the pink floyd albums, in the active (didn't that listening mode was called that, I learn new things here all the time) listening mode. Seems like floyd is good for that. But the more interesting point is that a couple of you, with really nice systems prefer the (passive?) concert mode. That makes me think maybe it's also different kinds of music, in that the active mode is good for dynamic, intricate (having a hard time putting into words) music, such as Floyd. Then, in the concert mode, maybe the music is more of the rock'n'roll, where it's not so important to hear all the nuances.
  11. FYI, I'm not your normal forum user. [6] I specialize in pulling up old threads, but only when I have a timely pertinent post to contribute. I don't do it just to "do it". My main reason is to reduce the duplication of threads. Just look at all the bi-amping threads here. If only people would... It's easy when using the search function on this site. [] And back to the point of my post, I'll post some pics and such when I get the speakers out of the back of my Yukon. [8-|] EDIT: sorry, I sounded kind of rude with this reply, it was not my intent.
  12. I'm curious. For what y'all consider your best music, what's the listening mode? Do you read and listen? Do you wash dishes and listen? Do you play with the wife's tiddy's and listen? My "best" listening mode... meaning when I'm really interested in the music or just feel like doing nothing else, I really prefer to turn the lights down, sit and close my eyes. I don't care to have other people in the room at all. I close the doors\windows so I don't have outside noise. There are times when I'll move about the room\house and do things, but I really don't enjoy the music as much that way. I wonder if that's the way for most of you... quiet room, lights down, eyes closed?
  13. You guys might be right that this was the plan all the time (tho I'm not convinced). But, here in Des Moines, there isn't a better deal, netflix beats the local cable\sat options by a mile. I rarely (in fact, I'd use the word never but I also try to never use the word never) watch TV "shows". I'm exclusively movies and the cheapest cable\sat option is 3-4 times the rate of netflix and I'd lose the option of getting to watch when I want to watch (and yes, I've looked at the cable options that let you choose and start a movie and that's about 10X the rate of NF). As I refuse to pay the exhorbitant rates the cable\sat companies want, NF seems to be a good option at this point.
  14. While I understand the implications of not having good performance from an external drive, I'd sure try it out since your options are so limited (and external drive are CHEAP). I don't care what your other techs say, the only issue with an external drive would be performance. In addition to that, really only your project files should reside on the drive that you want to transport. The programs should exist on each laptop while the only the projects get transported. Another option would be to continue to use separate harddrives for your projects (in other words, leaving your machines drives alone) and just remember to update a USB stick with your files that you've changed that day (and actually, there's several free utilities will do this for you so you don't have to remember what you've worked on) and take that back and forth. This is, of course, dependent on the size of your files. But really, those are both the *same* option, logistically. HTH. (disclaimer, I'm not really a PC tech... but I know a fair bit about PC's, not as much as the guy who mentioned the abstract hardware layer.. I barely remember those 7 layers from school).
  15. Ha, just picked up a set of Wharfedale's (30D I think) for cheap off CL. I wanted to see just what all the hoopla was about. The ones I got are heavy for the size, apparently they have sand in the back? The cabinets are fairly nice... I can't wait to test them out, we'll see how they compare to the Heritage Klipsch.
  16. I emailed the guy yesterday morn asking if there are two or just one. No reply yet.
  17. Great. I pre-ordered 10.543 million years ago and have buttcuss. (I made up that spelling, btw)
  18. Ya, that's pretty cool. The man says of the dog~ "He's easier to get along with than a girlfriend and little bit cheaper". LAF
  19. This is actually a valid and proven psychological means of manipulating a persons perspective, it's called "anchoring". And don't think that it's not used on all of us every day, because it is. Back to normally scheduled programming. Easy problem to fix. Tell the wife you want these(not the little one), give it time, then after a while tell her you will settle for the smaller Jubs if it makes her happy because your thinking of her in this choice.
  20. Thanks James, but that's not actually a pic of *my* KLF-20's. I borrowed that pic, but mine are exactly the same shade. I strongly suspect that I'll take some pics tonight, and post them up since I haven't posted any pics of them yet. I want to use the KLF-20's in my HT setup, but the wood is so "bright". I really wish they were black (although I think black suks for anything but HT use).
  21. Am I correct in assuming that this procedure would make Black Satin out of my Medium Oak KLF-20s?
  22. [8-|] Ti's ordered for the KLF-20's. And since I've been on the watch for another set of KLF's, I ordered a spare set. :;
  23. I've been lusting over those "smart" AV's from Marantz. For quite awhile now, I've wanted internet radio integrated into the receiver. If I may ask, why did you choose the SR6005 over the SR6006? Looks like they are the same unit, only with the internet capability added to the 6006? I think the rest of the spec's are the same and at the same price?
  24. Whaaa. Looks like all of Colter's links got wiped. Still good info in this thread.
  25. I just might do that. I have been able to play with the tuner some, and it doesn't seem to hold a signal or even sound the same as a couple of newer tuners (built into receivers) I have. But it does look so sweet in the stack!
