  2. My strong suggestion would be to by a Dynaco ST35 kit from Dynacokitparts.com incredible service... he will even solder your PCBs.... Dynacos have a cult following and many many many on here can help. The ST35 will be more than enough power and will be super reliable. We can even help you add a vol pot. http://www.dynakitparts.com/dynakit-products/amplifier-kits/ST-35-KIT

So would I assume a $525 DIY kit have the sound of $750 complete amp?

I do plan on doing some DIY subs so this might just be up my alley a DIY amp.

BUT is an am like this just for 2 speakers? A left and a right? How would you get a sub to work with this.

Also I plan on doing a 18's DIY sub. I noticed on the specs for the amp it does not go below 20hz would this be a problem?

I have no problem with the DIY part of soldering, nailing, gluing, wiring and what not I just don't get all the oms, push-pull, matched quad, bias stuff.

Give me a pile of crap and tell me to put it together I am good. You want to know how it works well.....you are on your own :)

  3. Yes I will be doing the DIY 18's.

But for now I did set two of my RW 12d's up with the Heresys. I put them at the depth setting and 40 hz. They seem to be ok for now. But that has been for radio listening only so far. The move is going slow.

But yeah I will do one DIY 18 and if I like it we I might have to sell the RW's :) But I guess that means I would have to build what like 5 of the 18's?

  4. Interesting I just had a message from someone with 0 posts and now they are deleted.

Here is what they messaged me:

"I have this product for sale in a great condition ... please contact me on mibul@outlook.com for more details, thanks"

I really wish ALL scammers would be neutered :)

  5. Read THIS thread. Being sealed and direct radiators, you should get the chest bump you're looking for. Being 18's, they'll dig low enough for dubstep.

    Thanks

This is really the route I should go. I will have the room and time for a project like this now in the new place.

I will get more bang for the buck?

  6. What would be a good entry level/starter tube amp. Under $500?

It would be needed for Heresys and a sub (2.1 sound).

Would like to be able to run a HD through USB with WAV music.

Anyone in the SLC, Utah area that would be willing to let me listen to their tube amps?

  7. My budget could be flexible.

    I have plenty of room.

The center of the new house is a room that is a little over 30x30 feet about 1000 square feet? Its like a kit-din-liv-den type of room.

I will already have 4 RW 12d's for the HT.

So what would be a good mid bass sub that could do a little deep when called upon?

I will have a separate seating position from the HT.

Mid bass slam like Roger is talking about and something that will hit the low drops in dubstep are a little different.

    How big is your room?

    BIG

I was thinking RSW-10d or RT-10D if I could find them. I always hear here about how they are musical subs.

  9. So I finally got a pair of heresys.

I have now figured out why my music has sucked for the past few years.

I have a pair of advent legacys that I got new in 1988. They were a great speaker and I loved the sound.

A few years back the foam went out and I had the money so I upgraded to some RF-82 II's.

The sound seemed a little off. I just chalked it up to a better speaker is just revealing my badly recorded music?

So I have been in the process of re recording all my cd's in lossless WAV.

Now I knew the heresy was going to sound better and of course all the mid and highs sounded as expected BUT the bass was surprisingly better also.

So....here is what I am guessing. I don't like ported bass speakers?

Don't get me wrong the RF's sound great in 7.1 surround for movies. I love it for that BUT they never sounded good for music to me.

**************Ok long winded and to the question.

So I really like that 70's music bass drum thump. I think a closed speaker reproduces that sound better for my ears.

So what sub for the heresys?

I don't really know what the hertz break is but I like the bass output from the heresys for 60's-70's-80's rock and roll. I don't know what you call it but not the low bass but that bass drum that you feel in your chest. Not the makes your windows vibrate kind.

What kind of sub will kind of stay out of the way for that type of music BUT will be able to come in for todays music like dubstep that kind of bass.

Would a ported or non ported work for this?

Am I crazy or is this possible?

  10. So I went to Best buy today and got one of these on sale for $99. A 2TB portable HD. Works great. I put about 300 GB of music, photos and videos from my home computer on it. Took about an hour at most. Most everything plays fine. A few videos don't but not sure what file type they are yet. Its nice because it is only one cord to use it and it is small.

  11. I use a memory stick but, change to this recommended by some forum members: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-my-book-essential-3tb-external-usb-3-0-2-0-hard-drive-black/1261281.p?id=1218244145647&skuId=1261281&ref=06&loc=01&ci_src Current price around $122. This work better than any DNLA that I have tried.

So are you saying you just plug this hard drive in the to usb and it works? If thats the case this is what I will be doing.

    Or this if it works.

Has anyone done this with one of those USB powered SSHD's? The ones that don't have a second power cord.

Right now all of my music it at about 69 GB's and that is at crappy mp3 or less quality. I am planning on redoing all my music so I am thinking I am going to need a HUGE amount or room. Seeing on how I will be going from an average of 6 mb per song to 60 mb per song? So doing the math I will still end up with less than 1 TB of music and can use the rest of the space for photos and movies since the oppo will play them also.

  12. Just got the Oppo 103D the other day (12-27-13) off of amazon.

I was thinking of putting my music on a 2 TB SSD drive and hook that up to the USB. Anyone tried this? Be nice to find out if this will work before I drop the money on the hard drive.

I am interested in the Hard Drive hookup.

How well does it work, how good is the interface and how easy is it to use?

    Bump

Any one know if this is possible?

  13. what are you guys using for surge protectors?

Here is what I got. Had them for 2 years and no problems. I have been happy with them.

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004K6MCL0/ref=oh_details_o04_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Plus last year I had a new power panel put in for the house. For just a little more money I had the guy put in a whole house surge protector and a new grounding rods.

  14. I just got the OPPO 103D a few days ago. So far seems like a good player. But save a $100 and get just the 103. I don't see any benefit of the darbee. But then again i think the 103D has some 3D stuff the other does not.

It compared to the cheap blu ray i had. The cheap one would not do 7.1 sound.

It compared to the PS3. Off had one difference is when playing a 6.1 blu ray the ps3 would cut sound to the two rear surround speakers and the oppo forces that 6th channel to both rear surround in a 7.1 system.

Just in general the more expensive ones will have a lot more video processing stuff.
