  1. Since the mid and tweeter are not in the bass cabinet, per se, you could just remove them and mount them in a new baffle to place on top of the screen. However, the distance between the two may be very noticeable, as you won't be far enough back for the different sources to blend together.. Most of what you will hear directly will be coming out of the mid horn. I would think that with your bed at 20 inches, you won't have a problem leaving the LS in its original configuration. The ceter of the mid horn is about 28 inches. I would just raise the whole cabinet up a few more inches and place the tv on top.Since you are watching from the bed, you want to tv up a little more anyway. Bruce
  2. You can also go directly to the playing for change website. http://www.playingforchange.com/
  3. Mark, Thanks... One would hope that the board ground is also tied to the chassis. Not too likely that they floated the whole board. That would be a fairly simple one to check out, once you open it up. Spent most of yesterday taking apart the 16 channel mixer, pulling out the three boards and PS module. 268 knobs and as over 50 nuts for the rear jack panel and lots of screws. Cleaned all the board interconnects, and reassembled. Dang... still have the mutes acting up. I guess it could be the mute switches. The PS checks good, and actually has indicator L.E.D.s on the front panel indicating power supply rails are good. I'd like to get this one fixed for sure. Other than THAT problem, it's good. Bruce
  4. Here's the camera you need to use. Man, those things are gi-normous! Now that is what I call large format photography. That just makes me shutter...., then I get all emulsional about it...
  5. I think I would rather be doing that than the second mixer I got. It seemed almost flawless, but the mutes are acting up. I am thinking a dirty connector, so today I disassembled it. About 60 knobs, all the nuts off the line and insert jacks, large number of screws... While the 'lectronics were out of the chassis, I cleaned it really well, getting all the grease and dust off of it. A lot easier without all those knobs and buttons. Vacuumed the boards, especially all the faders, so the felt seals now look really good.Contact cleaner for the intermal connecting cables... Putting it all back together now, so I'll find out if it helped or not before the night is done. Quite the PITA... Shoulda been doing yard work...[:$] but this is really more fun. Got any new pics of the shop, Michael? Your inside listening room is looking sweet! Bruce
  6. Some of the old Kays were actually decent. Sunn used Dynaco output trannies in some of their tube amps, too. Interesting collection to say the least. Bruce
  7. Nice explanation, Gil. I've been meaning to post this for a few days... Below is a picture of a Pi speaker, put on its side with an Oris horn on top. Notice how it looks like a DR pointed into a corner, to make a horn out of it. That is exactly what the LS pointed into the corner does. btw, this design isn't marketed by Wayne any longer.
  8. The H/K 730 is a very conservative 40wpc, and has always been quite robust. People don't continue to buy them just because they are now inexpensive. The H/K 730 tech manual is attached. A fuse is either blown or not. A multimeter will tell you, but you have to remove the fuse to check. HK730_sm.pdf
  9. My first listen to Klipsch weren't even the real thing. The brother of djk and I were in the same church at the time (mid '80s), and we borrowed some LS clone bass bins and the rest to use in a p.a. (built by Dennis). Eventually, my son and I gravitated here after I told him about the LaScalas. Hung out here and the son goes off to school at Full Sail. Buys himself a set of Heresies and me a set of Heresy IIs. Then I found a pair of LS... the next step hasn't happened yet... [:|]
  10. The small college where I work has had a degree completion program for a number of years. Geared to the working person who already has some college time in, but is now out in the work force. It isn't online, but it is hard. They do far more researching and writing than our traditional students. Figure they have been at work all day, go to class and participate, turn in papers. Their degree, to me, may be more hard earned and valuable. Some of them drop out, but after about 13 months (I think), they graduate with a degree in business management. They walk during the same commencement excercises as our other students. I know that the U of P is huge, but it fills a need. If you are honest with yourself and them when you participate, you'll learn and benefit. my 2 cents...
  11. Very, very nice, Christy! [Y] So how's the MWMs coming along, or is DTEL too busy with Spring work? Bruce
  12. I would considerthe CT125 the first for horns, but for the mids, what a sweet deal!Right when I thought I might not do more for my LS. []
  13. It's possible that the Bose system may do some funny eq to make their own speakers tolerable. Plugging in the Heresies, designed for a flat output might provide unpredictable results. Bruce
  14. I am so blown away by this that I am going to get the dvd when released. A whole bunch of songs done this way. What a fun project and technical nightmare this could have been. The mix is superb! Bruce
  15. Michael, Your wedding photography is simply stunning. You must still be able to do some photography, no? The room looks absolutely gorgeous! Bruce

  17. They were supposed to be 2:1, 1:2. Set as a fixed amount. I thought that was the cool thing over the dolby. What you need, Dave is a couple channels of Dolby SR.
  18. IIRC, my 3340S cost about $1150 when I bought it new. I need a newe pinchroller at the least on mine. I have a TEAC A-1500 portable that the school was getting rid of, so it made it home to my house. I haven't powered it up yet, but the heads look to be in great shape. I will probably make a desktop/wood case for it. I need to find the rubber rel hold downs for it. I'll see if I can grab a couple stoppers from the chem lab (the kind that glass tubing goes through. that will work as a temp fix. Bruce
  19. My first decent RTR was a TEAC TCA-43. It was three units. A playback only transport, that had a 4 track playback head (record too, but not useful by itself). Add in one or two 2 channel record amps, with sync cables, and you had a reasonable 4 track record deck. It NEVER messed up. The only drawback was it only ran at 3 3/4 / 7 1/2 ips. Sweet machine. I used it until I got my 3340S. It came as a TCA-40, 41, 42, and 43 (the 43 also had the sync switches on the heads). Very cool! Bruce
  20. A good book is "The Best Defense:True stories of intended victims" by Robert A. Waters. You can get it on Amazon. Most self defense scenarios don't make national stats or news. It is over and done. It's one of the things that got my late, sweet wife to get a carry permit and take classes. She even joined "Second Amendment Sisters". If youknew her, you would never have imagined it in a million years. I worked for an ABC affilliate in the '70s, as a news photographer. We never biased our stories, although we always struggled to be balanced. It's a shame that it happens all the time now. Bruce
  21. I have a subscription to a magazine called TapeOp, but it is geared toward the recording arts. A nice mag, with articles on how to modify microphones, build stuff yourself, interviews with engineers and musicians. Although some ads may be placed strategically, it is more practical and a lot of fun. BUT... not for the end users, per se. Bruce
  22. I guess the problem is the English language, but I was always taught that you should never use a foreign word when an English word was more apropos. []
