  1. Welcome aboard! The KHorn MUST be placed tight into the corners for the bass to work correctly. It is true that some have them pulled out and are happy with them, but the design calls for them to be snug in the corners. This means that the mid horn and tweeter will be firing at a 45 degree angle back into the room, the left and right crossing about 9 feet from your front wall. Hmmm, it will certainly work, but that will depend on your listening habits, room layout (furniture, etc.). The long wall might be too far apart. Some of the folks here have built false corners, so they can rotate the speakers a little to suit the environment a little more. I would say that you should first just put them on the short wall and enjoy for a while. The tweaking comes later... Wish there were more folks in the northern part of the state... [:^)]
  2. I could have retired a long time ago...
  3. Rarely given enough credit, former Kingston Trio member John Stewart passed away. I learned how to play guitar by listening to their records. He was a wonderful songwriter and entertainer. http://www.10news.com/news/15098435/detail.html
  4. jc, if you do that with the reflector, you only have about a 1.75 inch opening on the turn. It might still work out ok. Dennis had orginally posted this when he worked out the mod for the ls: "The taper rate of a LaScala is 100hz,The mouth area is good for 125hz. Below this it is a big woofer in a small sealed box." This makes me think that, in some respects, you can't think of it as a horn below a certain frequency. Gorgeous little cabinets, though. btw, the BBX is great. Been enjoying it a lot, once I replaced the microphonic 6299. Bruce

    Will it take off?

    hmmmmm... I think that...ummm.... never mind. [8-)]

    Will it take off?

I see how it is a trick question, really. The thrust provided by the engine (either jet or prop) will cause the plane to move forward, regardless of the conveyor. It will then get lift as the air flows over the wings and take off. jb, perhaps a little humble pie will be served...[:#]

    Will it take off?

I never said I was smart. I'm on a lot of lists, thanks. But I am getting a better grasp of the situation. The plane will move forward with or without the conveyor belt. I'll change my answer. If a woman can change her mind, I should be able too as well. []

    Will it take off?

The engine only provides thrust to move the plane forward. No lift will be created by the airfoil because the plane isn't moving.
  9. Before my wife and I married, she traveled to Europe with her parents. While walking through the Atlanta airport, one of the skyhops came up and asked her dad if he could carry his bag. He replied, "No thanks. She can walk."

    Will it take off?

All I know is my .223 is flat to a 100 yards. Did you settle the airplane question yet? I say it won't take off. The plane isn't moving at all in relation to the earth. If your car is on a dyno and you are at 100 mph and stick your hand out the window, there is no wind hitting your hand. You have no lift. This has probably already been beat to death... I just wasn't going to read any more after I got to page 5 or 10...
  11. Thanks for the list. Cooder has always been a favorite of mine, and the medieval music sounds very nice too.You are seriously making me spend some money.
  12. We just left Symantec at the college where I work. It was too great a resource hog, an their supoort was terrible. We are still in the process of deploying the new av software to all the computers on campus. We switched to Kaspersky Labs. Yup, it is a Russian company.
  13. I guess that is why folks have been able to install OSX on a Dell Latitude D820 and have all the hardware work without any patches to the OS. Although we are rotating them out due to performance issues (far too slow), we still have some Dell Dimension XPS T500 computers in use constantly (500Mhz) running Win2K. The newer desktops have worked out just as well. You get a lemon every once in awhile, but they are usually pretty solid. It is essential that you don't get the smaller footprint boxes, because they tend to use laptop drives (CD/DVD, and HD), which CAN be problematic when replacing. ButI think that 7 or 8 years is a long service life for a computer. You just have to remember that the great thing about standards is that there are so many of them.
  14. From reading all your other posts, I was really surprised to read this from you mas. I would have thought that you, of all the folks here, would really know where the fuzz is coming from. Just send me a pm and I would be happy to give you the info.
  15. On the LS it is still an improvement without the EQ. It is misleading in what way? The mod causes a small loss in efficiency over the horn only cabinet.
  16. What is the volume taken up by the woofer, mid horn/driver and tweeter? You need to subtract that from the volume of the cabinet. A Tangent 400 has cabinet volume of around 3.38 cu ft, before subtracting the driver volume. You could make a pseudo belle cabinet with the ports on the front. It would still come out smaller than a full sized belle. And get way more bass. Bruce btw, those cabinets are beautiful looking. I am not wanting to take anything away from that...
  17. Those are being sold by kudret, a forum member. A very nice pair of Khorns. Bruce
  18. Yes, you do. A 5.1 system would have three speakers in front and two in the rear. The ".1" is the sub. A 7.1 system adds left and right side speakers, for seven speakers and the sub (it being a speaker, too. Just don't want to confuse anyone). Bruce
  19. Have any of you guys been to Dizzy's in San Diego? My good friend Chuck Perrin runs it. He's temporarily relocated due to the city wanting some renovations on the building he is in, but it is still going. Bruce http://dizzyssandiego.com/
  20. This is the main way djk does the bass mod to a full size LaScala. Open the doghouse into the top and seal the back. With added ports the response is -3db at 31Hz. Bruce
  21. How did you get the ramps in the top section? Just curious... Bruce
  22. Marshall, I think the problem with the Tangents is that there were a lot of different models. I believe that the 400 is the only one that uses the same parts as a Heresy II. The firend of mine who has a pair of Tangent 400s says they are just wonderful... but they are mdf (I have yet to go hear them). I thought about upgrading my HIIs to the HIII series. That would leave me with almost all the parts to build a set of Tangent 400 cabinets. Sounds like a winner to me. You could easily build a cab of the correct volume that would be short enough for your situation. Bruce
  23. When I got my LS, they were outfitted with the orginal AL crossovers. I didn't like them at all. John Albright loaned me a pair of ALKs to try out until I could purchased or build my own. (I still have them... and need to return them) I ended up building a pair of DHA2 constant impedance crossovers that John had designed. The difference was absolutely stunning. They don't look the prettiest, but they work just fine. Being constant impedance really helps with my lower powered SET amps. Bruce
  24. Tom, is that your Emilar horn in the avatar? LS don't screech when you under power them with SETs like I do. [*-)]
  25. If you drop a banjo and an accordian off the Empire State building at the same time, which one will hit the ground first? Answer is: Who cares!
