  1. EDIT: The Deltalite II is only rated to 60Hz.... or so. Much different. Thanks for chiming in... I didn' t mean to confuse the issue and misrepresent your upgrade. Bruce
  2. Jay, You aren't alone. The problem is their sales staff and Vista. The two are certainly making for a rotten combination. Sorry for all you've gone through. Bruce
  3. I was looking at the old thread of Scooterdog, about an upgrade for the Heresy. Our good friend Dennis mentioned a replacement woofer for the K22. I think he actually put in the wrong part number as what he referenced is a 10 incher. If it is the 12, it wouldn't be too expensive and should be a drop in as they mount on the back of the baffle. Current price woud be $113.97 (2+) http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Product_ID=172742&gemail=1&CFID=15994945&CFTOKEN=95829874 Bruce
  4. Dean, he is using the dbx as a source selector. Still might work, though.
  5. I can dig it too. That's why I still have LS and a 15 yr old CD player. [:^)]
  6. Only two caps to replace. This pic is also from the HT forum. If you want it better, you could replace the 4558 ICs with a higher quality part.
  7. Here is a graph of the stock .047 uF caps on the input of the Cleanbox, and replaced with 1.0 uF caps. I pulled this off the Home Theater forum. You could roll off somewhere between by using a couple of .47 uF caps.
  8. You still have a preamp, and it's called an ART Cleanbox. It has line outs, it has gain controls...
  9. Not exactly true. Many of the modern, high quality amps, whether tube or solid state, will be incredibly quiet when powered on and no music playing. The high end in the music will still be there in all of its glorious detail. Still, it can take some work to get your system that way. Bruce
  10. I don't know... good solid state is GOOD! Don't think he meant go tubes at all.
  11. Speaking of flowers, I was going to send a dozen roses to my gf in China. All the FTD folks were outrageously expensive, which you might assume when sending to somewhere overseas. I found an online florist, started by some students who were in business school in Canada (I think I remember that right). I have used them three times, to two different places in mainland China (they serve most of Asia and the U.S.). Service has been excellent. If they don't have what you order, they will tell you alternatives, you can change the order after you place it, etc. I was flabbergasted at the service. I sent a dozen red roses, with baby's breath in them, beautiful presentation. The cost was right at $26 delivered. The last order was for 9 red roses, two white, w/baby's breath throughout. I added a box of Dove chocolates. Still under $50. Delivered on time, every time so far.
  12. Jay, The Lenovo sales force is brain dead. It took my daughter close to three months to get her desktop, ordered though their web store. I do, however, think their hardware is good. I have a laptop that I bought right before the name switch (IBM to Lenovo) and my daughter has a desktop and a laptop form them. They are doing fine. We do have a laptop at work that seemes to be a lemon. Have sent it back three times, and it still acts up. The problem there is it goes to a service depot that they contract with, and they are awful. One department has wanted to get the Lenovo/IBM because they have an international warranty. We had two desktops at work, that were actually personally owned. They both were out of warranty, and both had bad motherboards (lots of small electrolytic caps were leaking). Even though they were out of warranty, new motherboards were shipped as replacements and the PCs are running great now. B ruce
  13. Mark, Nothing wrong with the doggies at all. Once I realized I could use another piece of my SS gear as a buffer/impedance matching device, I rolled in the Alesis amp for a while. I don't have a problem leaving the BBX turned on all day, or even forgetting to turn it off. The Moondogs I don't want to do that with. You just can't argue with SS for ease of use (Although, to be fair, I have never had a problem with any of my tube gear either).
  14. Listened on the living room system (LaScalas, BBX with SS amp), cranked up a bit. Clair de Lune is my favorite of the three. Incredibly clear and tonally balanced. Enough of the room to give it some space. The Grainger piece still sounds a bit muddy to me. The piano suffers the most from the room acoustics, the violin not so much. The room does impart a rather lush sound, but not my type of recording. It just sounds too distant in a big room. The Spankers cut is great. Felt like I was sitting in a pub in the front row. I can just imagine the four channel recording. Nice mix, which given your recording technique means they balance themselves very well by themselves. I'll give them more listens over the next few days.
  15. If anyone is using a command line to ftp these, you can see the file sizes and listing with an ls -l comand. But is looks like the files are all there now. Very cool.
  16. I'll have to haul the laptop out to the living room for that, and I don't want to unhook it at the moment. I was listening through my smaller Alesis Monitor Ones, with a substantial amp driving them. Not the best monitors in the world, but I've heard far worse in studios. Since I sit here and listen to a lot of music, it is easily equal to most piano recordings I have heard. Tone, balance, attack, room... really nice to listen to. When I get the last song downloaded, I'll just pop them onto a cd and use that.
  17. I was thinking if it got any better that your wife would think you were running around on her. I've had a SS amp on the back side of the BBX for the past few weeks... the sound is very, very good, and I sure don't have to worry if I leave it on. But the Moondogs are still it for me, even if the bass isn't quite as tight when I crank it up.
  18. Dave is still uploading the tunes, so you may get partial files. The piano on Clair de Lune is excellent, even with the creaky bench. Kudos Dave.
  19. Only two file names are there, ClairedeLune.wav and HandelontheStrand.wav (which shows up as zero bytes)
  20. ftp to www.mallette.org user anonymous password is email address Love it! I'm using the Windows command line. EDIT: Make sure you switch to binary.
  21. Dave, I am sure there are others that more closely fit the bill, but I did come across this. It has an S/PDIF and rca output on it. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/499975-REG/Trekstor_63040_250GB_MovieStation_maxi_t_u.html
  22. The La Scalas will take up more room. If you already have the Khorn tucked into corners and it works, I would question why you would want to switch, unless you intend to rearrange things/move, etc.
  23. Snobby jazz critics didn't like Oscar because he played so cleanly, too. Truly one of the greats.
  24. JB, is that your room? Love it. I was just now listening to The Band on vinyl. What a treat. I really need to get some of Levon's work.
