  1. I want these. The only Klipsch speaker that does it for me, are CW II's. I have heard these in 2 different systems, both sets were stock. Knocked my head off, as I was not expecting them to sound so un-honky. Just clean, clear, dynamic music. I can only imagine how these sound with the nice parts in them.
  2. Ya, the poor bastard.... A Marantz 2330 and a set of highly upgraded CW II's for the garage. Your molehill is my mountain. Congrats! Looks really fantastic. Put that source switch back on 1 and tell me how it sounds
  3. Well, I think what matters is taken care of. Doubt those 2ft whips of wire are going to make a hill of beans difference. Everything is soldered on these also, I think.
  4. Awesome phase inverter in the VRD's!
  5. Now THAT is what a 2040 should look like. Nice work on that wood.
  6. From the guy who works on this stuff, I have a massive surge of youngsters bringing me gear to work on. 4 years ago, that was not the case at all. So yes, more and more of them are getting sick of compressed garbage music and crap gear. Just a matter of time, and the industry will have to adapt. Good thing there is a wealth of vintage gear out there to save the day!
  7. It is all but done, waiting on the large main Filter Capacitors to show up. I splurged on these, so get ready. They are nice, and they were spendy. See you soon!
  8. See if its the amp. No way your question can be answered until you do.

    What I Got Today!

Jalabaneros..... I have had these allot and absolutely love them. Not so much for the heat, which is excellent, but the amazing flavor that they have. Chop one in half, cook it in a pot of chili, and game over.

    What I Got Today!

Didn't know push pull tubes could sound like this, huh!!
  11. Best somewhat affordable class D I have heard so far, are the Nord One Up (NC500) with the Sparkos opamp. Sound very good to me.
  12. That is a fantastic amplifier, and all vintage buffs know what it is, because they all want one. Value is tough, because it is now well into summer, and stuff does not bring near the coin it does in the winter months. Not only that, the working condition of a 40 year old amplifier is always questionable. Even though it works, it will need some work done to be reliable again. BUT! You do not want just anybody working on this amp. I cannot stress this enough. In your position, I would just sell it like it is. There are not allot of GOOD service centers in your neck of the woods, and I would not let them touch this amp with a 10ft pole. Yes, I know this, because I work on this stuff every day all day, and most of my out of state work comes from where you are. I will chat more with you over PM, as I would really like to see this one get treated right.
  13. I just finished one of these. It surprised me at just how good it was. There are mixed reviews about this preamp, but unless the electrolytics have been replaced, they cannot be judged. Great piece. GLWS
  14. These early Mac solid state were the best they ever did IMO... Really excellent sounding gear. I had the mono versions, the MC50's for a time, and completely regret getting rid of them. They are a real nice break from HiFi, if that makes sense, and allow you to just melt into the music. Congrats on putting together a beautiful system!
  15. And up to approx. 18VDC if it is like mine......
  16. WhereIsJohnGalt, paul d, PM's sent....
  17. Yes, and no.. I prefer the old stuff, with single sided circuit boards that you can actually work on, but that is just me
  18. Sounds like it is getting tired. Some new capacitors will likely fix it, but like you said, it is just not worth it.
  19. Class A/B done right, and there is no need for anything else. Especially an energy hogging cap cooking class A amp. I would much rather have a Class A tube amp. I do agree Class D is the future. It is almost matured in the higher end Ncore amps, but still not quite there IMO.
  20. Good luck Schu! Hope you find one. I love mine every day.
  21. The BA-F1 and the CA-F1 are very special pieces, and the best solid state Sansui ever made IMO. Glad they found a good home with you 2Bmusic!! These pieces are the very definition of "wire with gain". Better source they get, the better they sound. If they don't sound right, get a better source. They will truly sound exactly like it does. Note to potential buyers though; These pieces are plagued with some dipped mica caps that drift in value and make the amp and phono preamp in the preamp unstable, and will cause oscillation, leading to self destruct if not taken care of. The real problem with this is taking out those ever so special high speed outputs that are no longer available, and contribute greatly to the sound of these pieces. So most out there are either blown, or repaired and no longer have the original outputs. Don't worry too much though.... Mr Moons has a nice stash of them outputs for MY customers!! So don't go messaging me for parts. These are for rebuilds only.

  23. That would be a dirty relay. Flip it with your finger, and I bet you can make it do crazy things. You can pop off the cover of these relays carefully, and clean the contacts. Now you get to figure out what component is humming! Preamp most likely, same scenario, check the jacks and the traces related to them.
  24. lightning strike just might be the kicker here... I would open it up and look for a burned up ground trace. If it is working and humming, something that was (is) connected to it may have burned up a signal ground trace. I say this because it is working. If it was a main ground in the amp or supply, It would not work.
  25. You will likely have to replace the whole terminal assembly, but it may be a chore to get to it. What type it is, etc. I would look through the Digikey catalog and see if you can find one just like it.
