  1. I really never could detect much change in use of the phase on subwoofers. 0 -> 180 Why would we ever need to put it on 180? Is it because of the location of the subwoofer or other speakers we use? All its doing is reversing the negative and positive electronically. ------------------ http://www.autodirectsave.com
  2. I don't think the earthquake qualify. According to the Sunfire Specs, it uses a 225oz magnet -> earthquake uses 90oz 3.25 voice coil -> earthquake uses 3" 2.5 inch Peak-Peak -> earthquake 1.5in peak-peak the sunfires are obviously are some impressive drivers ------------------ http://www.autodirectsave.com
  3. How could you build your own sunfire? What drivers out there resemble the sunfire driver. As for the amp, you can forget about that, might as well just by an external 1000watt samson amp. Basically, how could you make a 11" or 12" cube like a sunfire. ------------------ http://www.autodirectsave.com
  4. Thats good to hear. Like i said i cannot detect any noise when sending it 20HZ signal with large excursions. I think the noise i get is from the amplifier on the bottom which has some sort of an AIR LEAK. And the air leak starts making noise Above 30HZ for some strange reason. I first thought it was an internal wood rattling, but earthquake says their subwoofer boxes are built super tight with braces and the box could not be resonanting. -The Magma drivers are one of the toughest looking woofers out there and i hoped they hold up as good as they look. It would be pretty sad if you could hurt the driver by using it at its MAX volume. But, Again, some guy claimed he blew up his SUNFIRE. ------------------ http://www.autodirectsave.com
  5. I need some advise here. I was playing around with my Earthquake MKIII today and accidently played a subwoofer test song and the volume was pretty high. The sub pretty much hit its peak excursions. After this, i was a little worried and tested the subwoofer with all speakers off: I hear noise when the subwoofer is playing at higher volumes. I don't know if this is normal. I can't here the noise when the speakers are on. Are subwoofers suppose to make noise when they are doing big excursions, besides smooth bass? I did a signal test at 15 HZ at high volume and can't detect any noise from the woofer. - Basically, how do you know if a woofer is damaged? I also thought its difficult to hurt this subwoofer since its amp is optically controled limiting clipping. So guess the only way to hurt it if you over excurse the woofer? ------------------ http://www.autodirectsave.com
  6. It sucks getting robbed. I once got my whole car stereo system robbed out of our car parked in the back yard with everything locked. Everybody is a theif these days. I guess if i had about 50,000 worth of equipment as the Ear seems to have i won't let just any body in my house. It would be nice to see a picture of all your stuff though. ------------------ http://www.autodirectsave.com
  7. Hey theEar, Why don't you start your own website, and review subwoofers as you buy them. Its seems you know very much about thus subject. something like www.subwooferreview.com ------------------ http://www.autodirectsave.com
  8. TheEar: Where do you buy this mink oil? I think my earthquake super nova uses compressed foam too. When do you think its appropiate to start applying this stuff? Its only 3 months old right now. ------------------ http://www.autodirectsave.com
  9. So you guys are saying long through woofers break? That don't make sense, since the motor structure is designed for long through. I guess the voice coil could wear out like a engine does. The surround nor the cone could be damaged in many years. I'm sure this thing has more output than many instore 12" subwoofers like Polks,JBLs,Sony's... For 8" cubed, it basically has a 7 inch wooofer except the surround probably takes 3 inches of it up. I would love to hear this thing in action. I was amazed how small the junior was when i saw it in the store, now its even smaller. ------------------ http://www.autodirectsave.com
  10. Majestic 200 provides twice the efficiency and twice the output of the short-lived Junior product, which it replaces. Carver claims the active driver's 3" excursion and 3lb. box pressure combine to move 200 cubic inches of airoffering the same performance as the original 11" True model. Its 8 inches square! TINY! I always thought while sitting in the bathroom, won't it be cool to make the smallest possible subwoofer with really huge excursion... well here it is. also the insides of a HGS-10 IS THAT A BIG MAGNET OR WHAT, the innner box is basically all magnet and amp! ------------------ http://www.autodirectsave.com This message has been edited by toussi1 on 02-26-2002 at 09:18 PM
  11. I guess you have a point. Let me refrase my statement: The best subwoofer you can have for under $1500 (where most peoples budget is). I don't think its fare comparing a dual SVS to anything unless your just considering price. For the cost of Single CS-Ultra subwoofer w/Samson amp package ($1400), i think the earthquake is the winner. If you think its fare comparing SVS-ultra pairs, than why don't we compare TWO Earthquake MKIV-12 to two SVS ultra (can be had for $2000 total online). HGS-18 - can't find cheaper than $2000 thus over our limit, plus too big and heavy. Revel - too expensive way over $1500 JBL - don't know, and haven't seen anywhere... maybe you can show me a link. I think you would have to agree for $1500 it really can't be beat unless you build your own something... ------------------ http://www.autodirectsave.com
  12. I would nominate the earthquake MKIV-15 as the best subwoofer under $3000 but can be purchased for $1500 online. I own the MKIII-12 and its great, my next sub is probably the MKIV-15. Link to output @HZ: http://www.lightav.com/home/earthMKII/compare.jpg ------------------ http://www.autodirectsave.com
  13. EVEN WORSE: A SUPER TWEETER (the ones you can barely here) ------------------ http://www.autodirectsave.com
  14. Just got a new SONY WEGA 32", How close can i put my RF-2 towers to the unit? I understand they are magnetically shielded. ------------------ http://www.autodirectsave.com
  15. Actually the MKII and MKIII look identical in even the driver placment. The MKIII however has an updated passive radiator. The MKIV is the one with the new 180 deg driver placment. They also removed the bass boost option from the amp and made the cabnet a tiny bit smaller. All i know is its a good sub, maybe not an SVS killer, but something that should be included in all those reviews. It could possibly come second or third in subs in under 2k. ------------------ http://www.autodirectsave.com
