  1. I've had some casual queries but nothing serious. Asking price too high? I get it re. the electronics but is the market soft on the older Reference stuff? I would appreciate your opinions as I'm trying to help out a friend's family with these but have been out of the 'scene' for years. If it wasn't clear from the original post I'm willing to consider your best offers. Thanks all.
  2. Thanks for the interest. All the pics are hyperlinked on the original post since they are high resolution.
  3. I'm helping sell some audio gear for a friend who recently passed away (I volunteered to assist the family since they weren't really sure what it all was), so I can answer some questions but probably not all that you might have. Everything is in metro Atlanta, Georgia area (30188) and available for demo if necessary. Prefer local sale due to the physical size and weight of most of these items (exceptions #4-6). Been out of the loop for most of these items so prices are negotiable to account for market adjustments of which I'm not aware. Pictures for all items at link below (except RF-7's, will take those tonight). Thanks for your interest. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/3norq844pa5zi4p/AABjLTVcS9vDQ-NcjlxA4TTCa?dl=0 RC-7 cherry ($400) - condition 7/10...second owner I believe. A couple scratches on top which would probably mostly disappear with some oil and elbow grease. Both woofer cones have the smallest of dimples. Grill has a couple cracks on the plastic webbed ribs (nothing visible from the front though) and a tiny pick on the fabric. Original packaging. RF-7 II cherry, pair ($900) - condition 8/10...small scratch on top of one speaker, otherwise pretty clean. Original packaging. Odyssey Stratos, monoblock pair ($2000) - condition 8/10...180W into 8Ω, left channel has a couple little scratches on top, a small ding near one of the case screws on top, and a couple of the rubber feet on bottom have small chunks out of them. Right channel has only a tiny speck/chip on the faceplate. All cosmetic issues have accompanying pictures. In full disclosure, I wanted to test every item prior to listing. After a bit of enthusiastic listening, the right channel dropped out. I turned the amp off and tried it the next day and all was well. It happened one more time so I physically checked the connections and it came back in. I reached out to the manufacturer (20 year warranty, transferable to 2nd owner) describing the issue and he was not too concerned (the amp has fuses and resetting current protection devices on inputs and outputs); if it happens again or with frequency then he would be willing to do further evaluation. Original packaging. Oppo BDP-83 ($275) - condition 9/10...I found in the paperwork that original owner returned for an issue with the disc tray drive mechanism that was fixed. Original packaging and manuals. DSPeaker Anti-Mode 2.0 Dual Core processor ($500) - condition 9/10...volume control, auto-eq functions to correct for room modes, includes original accessories microphone. Original packaging. Sangean HDT-20 HD radio source ($100) - condition 9/10...original packaging and accessories.
  4. Selling my cherry RC-7 from an upstairs system because I just don't use it much anymore. By and large it is in good shape and sonically spot-on, but I want to be upfront about all of the cosmetic blemishes (high res pics at link below which highlight the issues): a couple of light scratches on the top and each of the cones has a small wrinkle (esp. left one you have to get the light just right to see it). The grille has all of the pegs intact but has some of the grille plastic lattice broken slightly; with that being said once installed on the speaker it is still stiff (doesn't give when you push it in any area) and not distorted or anything crazy like that. Original box, bag, and instapak/foam, although I'd really prefer not to ship it as it's big and heavy and expensive. Zip 30188 Atlanta metro area. I'd love to get $400 (OBO), so go ahead and get yourself an early Christmas present! Pics, pics, pics: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ltgimd248aii5p9/AAD-fLMcAdjVsBftVnkqLbfEa?dl=0

  6. Cross-listed in the HT forum, just skip over the parts about the SS amp and sub Hey Guys, I never thought this day would come, but finances have forced me to sell the majority of my gear. Up for sale is: --Klipsch RC-7 Black, center channel speaker (bought new in box from a member here about 1.5 years ago, almost perfect condition) {{**asking $550 OBO**}} --Klipsch RB-35 Cherry, bookshelf speakers (bought new in box about 1 year ago from an authorized dealer here in Atlanta, almost perfect condition, just missing rubber feet) {{**asking $400 OBO**}} --Denon 2900 universal dvd player (DVD-A, SACD, etc.) (http://makeashorterlink.com/?Z2FE24CEB)(bought from Tweeter here in Atlanta about 8 months ago, almost perfect condition, no nicks or scratches or anything I know of off-hand) {{**asking $450 OBO**}}____I'll also throw in the few high-rez titles I have (Beethoven's 9th w/ Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on SACD, Linkin Park "Reanimation" on DVD-A, Metallica "Black Album" on DVD-A, Stone Temple Pilots "Core" on DVD-A) --Parasound HCA-1203, 3-channel amp, nominal 140 wpc (bought from Audiogon from the original purchaser about 1 year ago, bench-tested at about 160 wpc I read a while back) (http://www.parasound.com/service_information/discontinued/hca1203a.html)(looks just like the 5-channel version just a bit slimmer http://www.parasound.com/service_information/discontinued/hca1205a.html)(a couple of little nicks on the edge of the front plate) {{**asking $450 OBO**}} --SVS 20-39 PC+ subwoofer (bought from a fellow forum member about 2-3 years ago, he bought it B-stock, nothing cosmetically wrong with it that I can tell, still have the port plugs too) {{**asking $600 OBO**}} I'll take pictures today or tomorrow if you want. JUST LET ME KNOW. I'd rather you email me or call me (rather than PM), matthewdsims@gmail.com, 404.610.9030_____I'll double-box and ship the gear and speakers, but I would prefer a local pickup on the sub if at all possible. ***Please note that all these prices are OBO=or best offer, I haven't kept up quite so much with audio in the last 6 months or so, so these prices are derived from completed listings on eBay and the 'Gon, I apologize if any of my asking prices are inflated, hence the OBO*** Thanks, Matt

  8. Hey guys, I haven't been on the forum in a long while, and I remember how much I hated to read threads on this topic, but I gotta ask your opinions, since now it's different since it's me with the problem . Here are the main characteristics of the situation: -RC-7 on top of 27" CRT TV (with a relatively noisy power supply) -Upstream of the RC-7 is a Parasound amp (3-prong/ground power cord adapted to 2-prong plug directly into wall outlet, "cheater" plug) and a HK receiver acting as pre/pro (2-prong plug into surge protector) -Sounds like an electrical hum, comes out of both woofers and the tweeter, haven't put an SPL meter on it, but it's quite noticable from the listening position 9 feet away -Hum is source independent (i.e. still hums whether dvd player on/playing or off) and gain independent (i.e. doesn't change when you crank the volume on the pre/pro) -Other front speakers are RF-3's, no hum What I've done to try and locate the problem and results: -Changed out the speaker wire (no excess length, not coiled) and RCA interconnect -> No effect -Run the speaker wire away from the TV and placed the speaker about 5 feet away from the TV -> Little to no effect -Swapped the interconnect running from the center channel pre-amp output of the receiver to a different input channel on the amp -> hum does not shift to the new channel, stays in the center channel -Swapped the center channel speaker wire from the center wire taps on the amp to a different output channel output taps (with center interconnect correctly going to center input on amp) -> again, hum does not shift to the new channel Well, that's about all I can think of off hand. I sincerely appreciate any advice or recommendations or thoughts on this matter!
  9. Love it/hate it looks. Exclusivity (you don't come across these very often). Awesome power-to-weight ratio. Great everyday driver but still can make you soil your pants. When I graduate from Tech I'll be picking up a used '01 for about 25K. Keep dreaming...

    The Life Aquatic

Us Klipsch guys must have a good sense of humor. I saw it in the theater with about 10 of my friends and I was the only one who liked it. I have a Seinfeld-sense of humor though rather than those with a Friends-ish sense of humor. I'm definitely gonna buy it.
  11. Although it's still NIN/Reznor I find it kinda hard to compare With Teeth with the rest of his stuff. Personally I loved The Fragile, but it's just so different than With Teeth (possibly with the exception of "Right Where It Belongs"). I'll be the first to admit that With Teeth is more radio-friendly in a catchy kinda way; but that doesn't mean I'll like it less for that reason. I actually feel the opposite of what you guys think in that I like it now but I think it's appeal might wear off over time.
  12. Man I didn't know about this one, and I listened to Facless on the way to work this morning. I bought one of their other dvds, Godsmack Live, and it really sucked. Audio was so terrible I sold it to a buddy who doesn't have a system. FWIW though Godsmack has put on one of the best live shows I've ever seen; they really bring the energy. I'll definitely have to check this one out.
  13. I was disappointed. Maybe it was because everyone had already told me what a great movie it was and how much I would like it. I thought the plot was really linear and predictable. I thought the soundtrack distracted from the movie. The gunshots in DTS were worth the rental (i.e. Netflixing).
  14. www.SlickDeals.net Check this about a thousand times a day; the good deals go quick. www.deviantART.com Can spend hours upon hours on end browsing all forms of art. B&W photography, mixed media, graphic art, etc. etc. etc. Simply one of the best websites on the net, period.
