  1. I appreciate all of your suggestions. As an aside, I discovered last night that I am an analog guy. I previously had a Panasonic SA-XR700 and used the digital inputs. I found the sound clean, but sterile. I wanted to like it but I wound up selling it. I also tried out an Adcom GTP 600/GFA 6000 combo on ADS L630s and L310s. I had to boost the treble and my wife and daughter complained that I was going deaf and that the highs were piercing. Last night I tried out Polk LSI 7s biamped on a Denon AVR 3805/ DVD 2910. The biamp procedure was easy and there was no feedback through the speakers which sometimes occurs. First, I used the digital coax input on the receiver and the sound was clear but sterile. Then, I utilized the analog signal path with both components in pure direct mode and was amazed by the clarity and body of the music. It was just right for me. There were no tone controls to adjust and every part of the music was just present. I don't claim to be an audiophile, so I am not sure of the proper terminology and am not terribly concerned about that. I am just having fun. I can't wait to get my Forte II's out of storage and start playing with them. I am going to try out the Denon first since it isn't going anywhere as part of a decent home theater set-up my wife and I selected together several years ago. I hope it doesn't take a constant change of components to get the right sound for me out of the Klipsch. I'm guessing all of you probably said the same thing and then reality set in. This hobby/addiction is ridiculous.
  2. Moray, Could you post a few pictures of your Forte setup with the stands and monoblocks. It intrigues me and may appeal to my better half as well. Thank you.
  3. I need suggestions on equipment to purchase gradually and on a modest budget with the ultimate goal being a biamp system with tubes on top and SS on the woofer so I have smoothness and bass that punches me in the gut. Sources will be CD and lossless IPOD so your recommendations on a source unit, d/a converter, preamp, tube amp and SS amp will be helpful as well as answers to these questions 1) Should I get the tube amp first or the solid state amp first? 2) Active or Crites passive on the woofer? 3) How many watts are needed to rock the house and achieve deep wall shaking bass? Thank you.
  4. I am in possesion of both testicles thank you. What all of you don't understand is that this is a major victory. The speakers will be in the front room of the house as I don't have a man cave, which means the wife and I have to like them. I am not a huge fan of oak oil but that was all that was left when I bought these.
  5. Thanks to all of you but especially those who provided useful ideas to make this work. I still would like to hear from you regarding an appropriate tube amp for the top end and SS for the woofer as well as a preamp and a source unit. This will be a gradual upgrade process so I will have to do it in stages. Suggestions?
  6. My wife finally agreed to me using my oak oil Forte IIs as long as they are not in the way (big, ugly speakers in her opinion). I bought them new in 1995 and have had them in air conditioned storage since 2002 in the original boxes. I had to make a concession though. She is not fond of the oak oil finish and has said "They better be black". Naturally I have a couple of questions. Is there a way to give them an attractive black finish without ruining the oak oil underneath? I plan on using Crites crossovers/upgrades and ultimately biamping the speakers with tubes on top and SS on the woofer in a 2 channel system, but this will be gradual as money permits. what equipment do you recommend (source, preamp, amps etc) keeping in mind I want that magnificent warm and clear sound and enough bass to punch you in the gut and rattle kitchen cabinets? I remember being amazed hearing a set on an ADCOM GFA 555II, but I want speaker protection and something better, all at a reasonable price. Hopefully, I am not asking too much. Thank you.
  7. Thank you all for your responses.
  8. I purchased a set of Forte II's new in 1995 and used them for about 5 years. They have been stored in the original boxes at my parent's house ever since. My wife had me talked into getting rid of them, but I thought about how much I loved those speakers. I told her I changed my mind and we have to find a place for them. I previously powered them with an ADCOM GFA-6000/GTP-600 combo which I thought sounded pretty good at the time. I thought the low end needed more power though. What are your recommendations to make my Fortes into an awesome two channel system without spending a fortune? I am looking for clarity, quality of sound and the kick drums on Stranglehold to punch me right in the chest. I have an ADCOM GTP-600 that I would like to use as the pre/pro in 2 channel bypass mode and I am leaning toward ADCOM power for the woofer, but I am very open to suggestions about biamping, placement, etc. Thank you for your time and advice.
  9. I just bought a pair of KHO-7 speakers for $25.00. The drivers are mint except that 1 K-94-S tweeter is blown. I can't find a replacement anywhere and would prefer not to cannibalize a perfectly good speaker like the KSB, KSC C1, or HS-2. I got the part numbers from Klipsch who told me to do a google search. The speakers sound suprisingly good for what they are and I am looking for a cheap fix with no loss in sound quality as I will probably use them in my garage. Thank you for your assistance on my first post in the forum.
