I've used a Yamaha prior to the Pioneer. I definitely prefer the Pioneer. I'm not savvy enough to truly describe what my issue is with the klipsch musically. When you read reviews, people describe it as they feel like they are at a live show. If they closed their eyes, they would believe the performers were in their living room. Wide sound stage, lots of depth, etc. That's what i would love to get, I just don't with the 82's. Maybe it's equipment, or set up, or source. Recently I was at a magnolia (not one inside BB) with my father testing stereo amps for him. We first tried Sonus Faber, as well as bowers & wilkins, Just to test the amps. My dad hated both (he is a big fan and long time owner of Ohm speakers). I didn't hate both, but it was my first time hearing the Sonus, but literally after 5 seconds of hearing them my dad said I don't like those at all, and the rep turned them off. Then to the Bowers. Honestly, never been that impressed with them. Maybe their HIGH end stuff is amazing with lots of juice, but they always seem underwhelming. We then had him put on the Martin Logan ESL's. I've heard these before, and they were nice in the past. VERY directional, but crisp, clear "bright", not exactly like Klipsch, but similar, to my unprofessional ears. For some reason this time, even with the Logans being "directional", they really filled the room with very nice sound. We were all surprised, to the point where my dad bought a pair. Granted they were running off a peachtree tube integrated stereo amp, which probably helped a lot. Not saying I want the logans, because I feel Klipsch is better with home theater, but these logans were almost twice the price of my 82's. That's what sent me on this hunt to hear/see the RF 7's. I know price doesn't always mean much, but I was intrigued. I really wanted to hear the logans on the $4500 McIntosh amp they had, but like most of the equipment there it wasn't working properly for some reason. That's the long short of it. Hope I made sense. Comes down to wanting that room filling sound, where I feel the music envelop me, as if it's live, instead of feeling like it's just sort of "yelling" at me. Again, I do enjoy them with home theater.

Using pioneer sc-61

I use the speakers primarily for home theater, but I do enjoy music as well. Just wondering how they compared to what I have already. Never that impressed with my 82's with music. Figured others in this forum listen to music as well. Seems people discuss both in these threads.

Anyone have any experience with B stock? Good or bad? Also, although I got to listen to the 7's, set up was pretty bad, and having the kids with me, and an awful salesman, the sample was pretty quick. How do these compare musically to the 82's? I like my speakers when watching movies, but many times I'm disappointed with them and music. Are the 7's a more musical speaker?

If that question was fir me, no. Too cheap to spend the money. I even bought the WOW disk but never opened it. I copied settings from cnet for similar tv for a quick fix, (I know that is not ideal) with plans of a better calibration being done. My wife and I are happy with the pq for now, so calibration kinda put on the future to do list. Love this tv though. If the question wasn't for me,I have no idea what the other guy did

Tv is in front of fireplace that has a gigantic mirror above it. Mounting anything not really an option. Fireplace never used by the way. Liking the riser idea

Thanks all for the help. The Samsung plasma that I have has the X shaped base on the bottom not a rectangular base. Not sure if this makes a difference. I would have to measure to make sure that the four points of the base would fit properly on top of the 64. Hopefully that wouldn't be too much weight on the corners. Honestly looking at my entertainment stand, I might be pushing it's limits with 50 extra lbs. It's a metal frame with wood in the front and all glass shelves. 40" wide X 14" deep. Not very big In terms of selling my current gear, I would think $1000 for all 3 would probably be at the high for what I could get? Also, seems like that could be a tough sell since you can get these new for great deals as well. Oh well maybe I could sell one of my kids. Thoughts on this. Does this seem like something to avoid? So today I found a Fry's that actually had some RF 7II's to hear. Very hard around here to find anywhere to listen to Reference Klipsch, let alone the 7II's. Currently I own RF 82II's and an RC 62II. I've been reading for years about the 7's and the 64, and how superior they are to what I'm running. Well, I liked what I heard, even with how they were set up. Gotta imagine how much they could offer if set up properly/better. Now I've got this nasty itch to upgrade. Problem is my wallet doesn't agree with me. So here are some of my questions I know most will say save and wait until you can afford the towers, but if I was able to get the 64II first, (unfortunately this was not available for a listen, but I'm gonna imagine it's an upgrade to my 62II) would it pair okay with my 82II's? Also, how much can you put on top of the RC 64? I have a Samsung plasma that weighs about 80lbs, but with my current set up I would have to put the 64 on the top shelf of my entertainment center, and mounting tv on wall is not really an easy option. I'm assuming that is too much weight, but I see alot of photos with tv's on top of the center channel. If I was able to afford two RF 7II's, would my RC 62II match okay with them? Would my Pioneer SC-61 treat them right? Side note, I was really surprised by the size of the RF 7's. I thought my 82's were big, but nope! Lastly, not sure if this is forum appropriate, but if I were to upgrade, what might be a ballpark value on my current speakers? 2 years old this Feb, and in mint condition. As a set or sold seperately. Any opinions, suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Careful with that calibration. No personal experience with geek squad calibration, but I've read over on AVS of several people having very bad experience/results with best buy calibration. Seems the popular opinion is too find a professional calibrator, with all the proper equipment. Again, just what I've read. After dealing with the headache already, wouldn't want you to have to have another one. Congrats on the new tv, looks dope.

Thanks fellas for all the responses. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't something wrong with the price. I've always thought of LaScalas as being a couple grand each, even used, so seeing a pair for that amount seemed to good to be true. If I were to go forward with this, would the rc 62ii I have work with these as a center. I know it's not a perfect timbre match, but could it work for the time being? Anyone know the range for the sale price of 1.5-ish year old set of RF 82ii? I feel like the rf82 are like a car. There value seems to drop drastically once they leave the lot, as opposed to speakers in the heritage line, or RF 83s for example.

I've had them for about a year and a half, and I like them, running them off a pioneer elite sc61, just curious about the heritage line. How much of an upgrade would these be? How big are these things? Amazon listed them at about 2 feet wide,2 feet deep, and 39 inches tall. I always thought these speakers were bigger than that, and I know Amazon doesn't always show the correct product description. Price seems cheap, compared to what I thought these speakers went for. To get these i would first have to sell my reference, which doesn't seem easy to do since there are always such great deals on new ones. Thoughts/advice? There is another post for la scalas in the not so immediate area that are similar in price, just no pics and no description. I guess this is the going rate for these? apparently my link is not posting correctly, and I can't seem to fix that. Not trying to break any forum rules, but the post is for a pair of la scalas with unfinished wood for $1100. Seen to be in great cosmetic condition in the pics.

Agreed. I love this forum for the fact that most members seem so tolerant and helpful of the noobs, like me. I'm on the XDA forum for my droid, and that place is just brutal.

I ended up returning my 809 as well and picked up an pioneer sc-61 at best buy. Price matched to amazon. Costs more than you spent on the 809, but so far this receiver is doing me well. maybe worth checking out Pio.

I was able to pick up a new pioneer sc 61 elite at BB today and they matched the Amazon price of $770. Great deal, I think, even better if I didn't have to pay California sales tax...which unfortunately I did. Worth trying if this interests you. BB is now matching Amazon at all their stores. Idon't even know if they checked Amazon. I asked for the price match of $770, the kid said let me check with manager. 2 minutes later he came back and said okay.I believe the msrp is $1100 on this receiver. Hope I like it. I'm sending back my 1 week old onkyo 809 due to some issues.

I checked the site to see if my unit was one that was under recall. Put in my serial number and it said mine was okay. Not sure if this is what you're referring to, but there is definitely something wrong with mine. On AVS, 809 thread people seem to link hdmi issue to overheating. I constantly check my 809 for heat (just by touching) and it is barely ever even warm let alone hot.

Why the hatred for the marantz?

I guess it's just another example of mass produced technology that's not yet perfected. Just a shame that the blowout price could be in relation to this. Instead of making a solid piece of equipment, let's just send it out and use the paying public as beta testers. Not saying this is just onkyo, just the world we live in. Anyway, I've been looking at the marantz sr5007. Thoughts? I'll end up paying more, but I've always had interest in marantz. I know it has less power than the 809, but my future plans always incorporated an external amp......eventually.......hopefully

To be honest, I'm not sure I want another one. I got this one for about $500 so $855 plus California sales tax is kinda a big jump. Hopefully I can find something

i think my 809 might be going back to Amazon. I'm having what I think it's hdmi issues. It seems when I'm watching a source other than cable/sat source, or tv/receiver is off, and then I try to turn on cable/sat source, the receiver won't do it. The tv says no source connected. I usually have to turn the receiver off and then back on just to get signal. Today marks one week with this receiver, so I don't have much faith with this thing long term. It's also flashing onkyo on the screen and switching sources on its own every once and awhile. Now to find a replacement. Don't think I want to try another 809 after reading about all the issues and my own experience. Sucks cuz I got this at a super price on Amazon. Hard to find something comparable at the price I paid. Thinking about denon or marantz from accessories for less, but worried about refurbs and some of the stories I've read concerning A4L. Also interested in the Pioneer 1222k mentioned in another thread in this forum. Problem with that is I read no 12v trigger. I plan on using external amps in the future and not having the 12v seems like it would be a hassle.

Your father in law sounds like a great man. Tell him I say thank you for two SB wins and a third appearance that........well let's just not mention that one. Hope something works for ya. Hopefully it's just a lemon, and your Amazon replacement will work flawlessly. Fingers crossed.

Just bought this AVR myself last week, and I too was having issues with the sound not being loud enough. The Yamaha rxv-671 that it replaced would be turned up to -12db to -10db max for watching movies. With the Onkyo I had to turn it to -6db to -4db for the same movies, and it still didn't seem as loud. Not sure if you have tried this, but what seems to of fixed the issue for me, was going into the setup Menu. Go to the number 4 option called "Source Setup". Once in there go to option number 2 called "Intellivolume". You can raise or lower the volume for each source. So if you're on the BD source adjust to your liking, but you'll have to do it individually for each source. Your settings do save. My overall volume for each source increased significantly. Hope this helps, and that I'm not repeating something that has been advised already. My question for the forum is I purchased this AVR with hopes of using external amps, ex. Emotive XPA 3, in the future. Will this honestly make a difference or, since these speakers are so efficient it doesn't really help? I'm currently running rf82ii and rc62ii.
