  1. Actually BB-8 wasn't CGI...he was a practical effect. They built 8 of them for the movie and it actually rolls and moves the way it's filmed. Pretty impressive robotics there.
  2. Abrams did a nice job integrating the new with the old in the movie. Dialogue was on point and not wooden (like the prequels) and all the actors did a nice job. Villains were believable and very well thought out. Plus the use of practical effects rather than a ton of CGI really helped as well. To meet all the expectations and hype is impressive. Abrams is an excellent director...he's done such a good job with all the franchises that he's been involved in. Definitely wouldn't mind seeing this one again as it was so much fun to watch. 9.5/10
  3. Yep. V3 is the only one with the colored wire. V1 & V2 share the clear Monster wire. So, if this has black/red, it's a v3. Interestingly...to me at least...my CF3s were manufactured 13 days after this one. Cool to see one that was built about 2 weeks ahead of mine. Good luck with your sale Mark...this will make a heck of a nice center for someone with a set of 3s or 4s.
  4. The 228th day of '95 though...likely a v3. My v3 have a born on date right in that time frame also.
  5. As of yesterday, they've sold over $100 MM in pre sale tickets....
  6. My mom sews a lot...one year I got an adult size pink bunny suit ala A Christmas Story. The next year my brother got a Buddy the Elf costume.
  7. To answer your question, Dave, I think it almost has to be the biggest opener ever. Look at the number of pre sale tickets already. Plus most theaters will be showing it in half of their screens. The numbers are going to be staggering. I heard this morning that it'll take a global box office of over $1.5B for this one to turn a profit after all the marketing. Thats an incredible number considering only 5 movies have made that much...ever.
  8. Agreed. I'm hoping it's like the reboot that he did for Star Trek. That was a great job in getting back to the storytelling that Trek was so good at while opening up the Trek universe to be different in subsequent movies. Hopefully, The Force Awakens will be similar, since it can virtually go anywhere from the end of the original 6 movies. With a new movie expected almost annually, I'm hopeful that there will be good stories told.
  9. Which makes things interesting...at least as far as the movies are concerned. Someone in the new movie will have had to retrieve the lightsaber and it will need to work it's way to Fin. I've tried hard not to read into too much of the speculation, preferring to wait until I see it on the screen. I'm also interested to see how Luke will fit in with the new movie. Abrams has been very coy about Luke and hasn't included him in any of the trailers. Personally, I think it's more to give the fans something to discuss/speculate on, but it was an interesting choice to purposely withhold him from any teaser/trailer.
  10. Center channel is the most important speaker. That said, sometimes compromises need to be made. I think Mike & Dave are right about mounting above the TV. If you can't, then I think you should try the phantom center approach before going with the gallery center. Dave is right, it's not the ideal solution but there's not a lot of other viable options given the space constraints. I went a few years with my CF3s handling dialogue and while not ideal, they worked very well. It can work... Edit: Dave responded right before I submitted mine here and his suggestion to offset the center could also work out. One other question: You mentioned that you've chosen the speakers you listed, but did you actually purchase them yet, or just decided on them? With how your front space appears, I'm wondering where you're planning to locate the towers, I'm guessing they will be fairly wide due to the shelving you have on the left side...?
  11. Welcome to the forum. In this instance, I think you'll need to post some pictures in order for us to really give you some good advice. Generally, I would say that if the rest of your setup is the reference premiere line, you will very likely have issues with your center being overpowered if you go to a gallery line center. But, if it's the only thing that you can work with...you may have little choice. In your case, I would probably recommend that you go without a center for a while to see how that works for you.
  12. While I generally agree, there are exceptions. The ending of Clapton's original Layla and Eagles Hotel California are important parts of the songs. So, I disagree that it's "never" acceptable...but, it is far too overused.
  13. Also interested to see how Fin gains possession of Luke/Annakin's light saber.
  14. Congrats! Nothing better than being a dad...just wait til he starts crawling/walking/running. That's when the real fun starts.
  15. Three words...Jar Jar Binks...that and the amazingly stupid droid army ruins anything good about I. I'll be waiting awhile as V & IV are my two favorites. But, will still be a good...and long...Star Wars day.
  16. Yo! Twelve hours of Star Wars, and then going to watch another 2 hours of Star Wars at the movies? I can't think of anything that is FUN that I want to do for 14 hours straight! Yep...that's the plan. Of course Episode I is so bad a guy could probably sleep through it.
  17. Got tickets for the 18th. A bunch of us are getting together that day to watch the first six before going that night. Looking forward to it.
  18. A little off path but why is there the need to change words in well known songs. Specifically, thy, thou, or thee to either you or your. Does no one know what the original words mean? It's a pet peeve of mine...just bugs me that we're now to dumb to know the originals? End rant...back to regular programming.
  19. As much as I like my 4520, it is a home theater receiver first and is just ok for music. I'd actually say that for each Denon that I've owned. Since OP is looking music first, I'd probably recommend he look toward HK or separates.
  20. Great score! Let us know your impressions as you continue to listen.
  21. When the I-35 bridge collapsed here several years ago, my family could not get ahold of my sister. She took that bridge often on her way to and from work. For hours phone lines and cell towers were jammed and we couldn't get ahold of her. Luckily she took a different route that day, but there was a lot of worry for several hours as to her well being. Not saying Facebook would've helped at all, but its another route to let people know you're ok.
  22. Like I said, social media can be a tool. It's often difficult to reach every friend or extended family member. Not every person has a land line phone anymore and cell towers can be overcome with traffic. It's a tool that has its uses.
  23. We can say what we will about Facebook & social media but on a day like today it is a useful tool in letting folks know of ones safety. God bless to those affected in CA.
  24. Criticism and dissent are indeed effective tools and rights of those in a free society, however, why is criticism warranted when someone is donating their wealth for good projects that help many? That type of criticism becomes background noise. How does it encourage others to donate their wealth when they'll be criticized anyway?
