  1. Hmm, maybe I should consider buying A CS-Ultra+ instead of another Infro sub, would it be easy to set the x-over at40 cps and run both subs? also could the CS-ULTRA+ intergrate well with K-Horns if it was in an opposite corner aprox 35ft.away Cheers Ed. Theears your A sick pup,,,lol in A good way though, isn't this like an addiction? Im hooked to
  2. I'm alive and well Kelly, just checking in to this BB everyday reading everyones opinion. trying to gain knowledge the HTS5000 is under the tree I think I got it for a good price $369 from Global Market(online) also Ive read a very positive reveiw on the HTS5000 at The Stereo times archives oct 2001 online and the reviewer praised the unit up and down saying it was like a couple of upgrades in a speaker line with IMPROVED dynamics, clarity, bass and quieter backround. Go figure!!?? Anyway, my sisters house was stuck by lightning last year, no one was home thank God but there was a fire and most all of her electronics were tosted It made me start thinking of protecting my considerable investment of audio equipment.. In the past year Ive been setting up 2 ch. in a new room, along with the Cary SLI-80 sig. ive upgraded my 16 yr. old K-Horns with damping horns- Alk networks-custom woofers-upgraded mid squawker driver and Mit terminater2 bi-wire. most upgrades have beenfound on this BB thanks to everyone, I really love the sound Im using an Adcom GCD-700 changer to me it is pretty good. any advice on a good DAC that would noticebly improve what Im hearing would be appreacieated. Or a better sounding changer? Im always looking to upgrade, where it counts. MERRY-XMAS Ed PS Kelly, Im thinking about tube rolling my Cary I would value your Opinion I believe that it is tube rectified also. This message has been edited by eglinski on 12-24-2001 at 02:48 PM
  3. Respectfully, I believe that the Bag End sub sounds better with real music to me than HGS, Sunfire,M&K,Boston,Mirage,Def-Tech,Klipsch,and Hsu these are the subs that I have auditioned I have not heard SVS orRSW-15 I do know that my Sunfire is rated to 18cps and in the real world and real room listening my Bag End trounces my Sunfire in bass extention and powerful sound and natural energizing of room. Maybe the highest SPL measurments do not tell everything, before I bought the Bag End I recieved all the measurment and outputs/frequencies for 1 thru 4 infro subs from Bag End they didnt lie, they told me that if I listened to K-Horns very loud that 1 Infro sub could not keep up (spl) and offerd other possible soulotions of a double s18e cab ect. I decided to by one Infro-sub and try it in my system and am very happy Ill probalbly by another in the future just for movies when I get a projecter and 100 in. screen. at between $1100-$1600 ea. v.g. value I have a freind that owns a pro music store and I get "the family" discount BTW Madison Square Gardens most recent sound system upgrade engineers chose Bag End subwoofer to handle the job not because of price but because they sounded the best! along with many other pro sound studios and churches There are hundreds of speaker that have come and gone over the years that out perform K-Horns But we all know BETTER!! Ed.
  4. The Ears I didnt think the Hgs-18 outperformed the bag end on well recorded music, actually I thought the Hgs-12 sounded better on music than the Hgs-18. Also the Sunfire "outperforms" the Bag End on paper (spl)also but in my stereo room 830sq/ft with 11 ft. ceilings and K-Horns there was no comparison the Sunfire sounded like it was "working hard and PUMPING" whereas the Bag End was smooth natural and very extended-powerfully. also Bag End is the personal choice of many musicians (used professionaly) check out the testonomials at their websight, bottom line Bag End subs are highly respected among the pros. The price is very resonable also. Ed.
  5. Thears, I believe that my Bag End Infro-Sub 18 is the real King, output down to 8 CYCLES PER SECOND!!! thats not 18 thats 8 talk about energizing a room, WOW! But the best thing is its extremely musical with correct pitch and timbre this is real music to me, no artificial sounding BOOM-BOOM sound here just real music. The Bag End keeps up with my modified K-Horns very well and I plan on getting a second one to be the absolute end all for music reproduction. You may think that I just dont Know but I've been into this Hi-Fi hobby for 25 years the home theater surround stuff is new to me,and yes I to watch DVD movies and concerts on my big screen with Cornwalls and Sunfire MK-2 Happy Hollidays. Ed
  6. Seasons Greetings, I would like to know your opinions of the Monster HTS5000 power conditioner, at present Iwould only be using it for 2-channel stereo. What about plugging aCary audio SLI-80 integrated amp, also a powered sub Bag End Infro-sub 18? Ive read reviews that the HTS5000 actually improved the sound Quality as well as all the protection Ive also read that it isn't good for Amplifiers . So im confused please let me know what you guys think about it. thanks in advance Ed. ps im driving K-Horns with the Cary SLI-80
  7. Sound Dog, Are the Altec 511B horns mountable in the K-horn cabinet without modification? still room for tweeter and do the 511Bs need to be dampenend thanks for the info.
  8. Hey, guys I am an Alice Cooper fan also for aprox 31 years I seem to remember doing a general search for Alice Cooper and getting various search results I went to many of the websites and did find complete listings of all his (their) albums including imports, re-issues and lots of obscure stuff, A little digging and you will find tons of info, good luck. I also had pretties for you and easy action albums in my youth. I would love to find the concert on video of the first "in concert" ABC Network starring the Alice Cooper band from 1972 just before Schools out was released. I still remember watching that in simucast at age 14 and still remember the words, and the look on my dads face watching Alice starting the show Awesome!
  9. happy holidays to all, I agree with Ray 100%(well written and thoughtfull) also about Krell,I am sure that they are GREAT products they have a great name and reputation. I also am sure that they are made and marketed to a certain nitch class of audio "purists" ($$$$$$$$) a status symbol kind of like super expensive sports cars watches ect. Way over priced- and meant to be!! I think that the Krell owners, and certinely their employees also know this, and proud of their companie's products. This is true of many "high end esorotic audio gear. All type of product for that matter, their is always the best of the best of the best of the best and always more $$$$ $$$$ all well and good,if you can afford these overpriced by design products and you want them go for it! Also it helps the economy creates jobs fattens the pot ect. I myself like and appreciate high end audio gear, but i look for bargains, and only interested in buying slightly overpriced gear,I like value and perfomance. Thears, I enjoy reading your posts, and I agree with alot that you say espesially about good power amps vs.recievers, you seem very knowlegable and helpfull. But one thing confuses me,with the type of musics that you say you like, most of that isn't recorded that well to start with and your SUPER high end gear must be overkill(IMO) And your subwoofer array and desire to raise your house and recreate the sound of jet engines space shuttle lift offs ect. Im with you there (love bass and power) But I wouldnt think that your High end Golden ear speakers couldnt begin to keep up with your Bass they wern't made to do that even with 1000 watts (super high end) of course (ouch) Have you ever tried KLIPSCHORNS Thanks Ed.
  10. Hi Al, The networks that I bought from you are GREAT well worth the cost and the wait, my K-horns have never sounded so "open" and detailed in the highs IMO. they do not add brightness like I read from a post at Audio Asylum. My qestion is about the squaker tap settings, is there a setting thatis between 3-0 and3-x something like 9.5 or 10 db of attenuation? Ive seen references to other settings being used by people on this BB that are not listed on the instruction sheet. Id rather not change the resister if possible Thanks Al Ed Glinski
  11. Soundog, are you still pleased with those new squawker drivers? is the efficeincy the same as K-55M? and are you using them in your K-horns with Alk/networks? It sounds like a real bargain at that price if they sound better. Im interested in getting them.I see on Laynes websight that they are sold out of EV-T35A Too bad as I wanted to buy one to have on hand as a spare. How much did they cost anyhow? BTW I also have K-horns with recently installed ALK networks and Im experementing with different squawker tap settings (very nice sound) Thanks for the info. Ed
  12. Hi everyone just to pipe in here my completly stock Cornwalls are 1982 made models and have K-55v squakers atached to K-600 horns,B2 network My 1985 K-horms have K-55m squakers andK-400 horns The Cornwalls have K33-E woofers (square magnet) K-horns have K33-E woofers (round magnets) Tweeters are both K-77m square magnets and look identical also Im in the process of installing Alk networks in the K-horns right now I decided to make new Woofer hatch doors out of 3/4 birch plywood, and use T-nuts Does anyone have an opinion about swapping the woofers and squakers I want the K-horns to be the best they can be. Also in my opinion the Cornwalls have a consistant smoother sound with "round" full bass very much easier on ears I also use a sunfire sub with them they dont really need it on music. The K-horns in my opinion sound more dynamic larger soundstage and overly bright, with a lack of bass on many cds But on some "well" recorded cds they sound AWESOME!! I use a Bag End 18" Infro-Sub which I highly recomend to "flesh" (Ray) out the deepest bass and add weight to some music thanks Ed. also please give me your opinions of 'swapping" those squakers and woofers Ill post my reaction to Als networks in my K-horns when I can.
  13. Ive been getting into "Live at the Greek" by Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobhram, Larry carlton and others lots of great sounding percussion and really gets better the louder I play it. Also you mighy want to try Bella Fleck and the Flecktones (greatest hits) I bought it and really am impressed with its overall sound through my K-horns great percussion Bass guitars horns and Banjo! very nice I notice on alot of music I play when I crank up the volume 80% of the sound is great but I hear A mid-high blare that starts to hurt my ears and doesent sound like real music. Ive had my K-horns for 16 years and that sound was always there but didnt bother me. Now (getting older)my music tastes have matured and Im trying to tweak for best sound, Ive gotten A good tube int. amp (carey), ive discoverd this BB (Im becoming obsessed) dampened my horns and have ALK networks on order, well that should help. Do any of you guys have that mid-high blare or is it just my ears or being too fussy or live room acoustics let me know. thanks, Ed
  14. I'm pretty much a newbie here but maybe you guys can help me. While I was in the process of damping my horns, like I read all about on this BB, I came across something a little strange to me. Unscrewing the driver from the horn on one speaker I found a rubber washer between them. So far so good. On the other K-horn there was no washer between the driver and the squawker horn. Is this a problem? Is there supposed to be a rubber washer or not? And, if there is, what is the purpose of the washer? And the strange thing is that I bought the pair of K-horns brand new in 1985 and have never taken the drivers off, so they came from the factory that way. Hmmm. Thanks! - Ed
