    test do not mind
  2. well, i have a $100 dvd player. Actually its my pioneer 106s DVD drive in my computer. My computer is connected to a 3802. Just tested out gladiator and that first scene is pretty amazing in dts. The crunching sounds on those bows and catapults sound so real! I guess my 106s paired with my audigy plat is probobly as good if not better than most dvd players out there if i try to connect one to my receiver. ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. 3. sorry for the ignorant question but how different can these dvd players be??? Take away extra features like sacd, progrssive scan, etc and going to the meat and bones of just playing the dvd movie how much of a factor can the dvd player be in terms of quality??? ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. But it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. OW
  4. Thingy, i had experienced the same annoying hiss from my 4.1's. At first it seemd it was coming from the left front speaker (if i could recall correctly). But i definately rememember the hiss spreading to the left rear speaker. Very very very annoying, especially since the 4.1's were in my room and the only way i could get to sleep was to unplug them everytime. ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. But it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. OW
  5. i got a denon 3802 and Studio 20's connected to my PC. It's not complete yet, but hey you have to start somewhere right?? ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. But it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. OW
  6. so alienware has also seen the light. wonder which speaker line they're going to use now... ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. But it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. OW
  7. Audry, i hear you loud and clear. My replacement for the Promedia 4.1 Denon 3802 = made in Japan Paradigm Studio 20's = made in Canada i'm going to avoid getting expensive equipment that's made in china like a plague. ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. But it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. OW
  8. BigBusa, i think you guys know who i'm talking about. Its understandable with Amy since that's what she's instructed to do but for the others... That robot guy (again i won't mention any names) seems to be a little bit biased on this whole promedia fiasco. It's nice and all to put what Amy will usually say on your sig but a head count of all the people who have returned promedia speakers and maybe the date of he last known case would also be nice. Since mr robot dude has been here for an absolute eternity, he should know that that count would at least make people think twice about returning sets instead of getting a refund. Thus educating them more. It's senseless for people to be returning multiple sets (like me and many others did), just stop the bleeding early. And if those people REALLY want a Klipsch promedia set then wait until it all clears up (whenever that is). It's just stupid how defective sets have creeped from the v.200 line to the 4.1 line, and finally to the 5.1 line. THe different lines and still reliability problems? Simply Unacceptable for a company like Klipsch to allow that to happen. BigBusa, i was leaning heavily towards the marantz 6200 but they are having "Klipsch promedia like" problems with their whole x200 line. It's not as bad as the sets would stop working but there are a number of issues that haven't been taken care of. So i chose the denon 3802. Even if it cost me $890 US here in canada. Yeah it would have been cheaper of the net but if something goes wrong shipping would be a pain, there's brokerage fees to worry about, and i don't know of any authorized denon online dealer. I did heavy research on receivers and there aren't any nagging problems nagging the x802 line and the sound was great so i chose the 3802. ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. 9. thanks oogins for the complement. I'd also like to thank you for the help you gave me when i was researching, cleared up a lot of things! This home theater stuff though is really evil. All these upgrades that i'm already thinking down the road and i haven't even had my system for a month! Very addictive indeed. ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. 10. Zodo man return those evil things for a refund! Just take a look at this forum and smell the roses! I was also a victim, but never again. Klipsch your other speakers might be reliable but this promedia line is a disaster. Hope it blows up in your face. ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. But it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. OW
  11. gribby, before you even think about getting that set exchanged look around this forum. Look at how many people have experienced the same thing as you....and me. This is just outrageous. I recommend just getting a refund and forget about the whole promedia line. Yes they sound ok but reliability has been a serious issue for the whole line. What has Klipsch done about it? They addressed the problem yes but did they take the PROPER measures to fix it? I don't think so. Gribby, don't get another set, then another, then another, well you get the idea. Stop the bleeding early. ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. But it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. OW
  12. ETFBlade, forget it man. Stop shooting yourself in the foot with these defective sets. I went through FOUR sets and that was last November when it happened. Obviously they haven't taken the proper measures to deal with these lemons. F@ck man, get a refund there are other alternatives out there. ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. But it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. OW
  13. Sage, take a look around this forum first before you call Amy. After you take a look around, i think you'll be calling your retailer for a refund instead. ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. But it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. OW This message has been edited by Vatican3 on 01-16-2002 at 12:01 AM
  14. hmm, i haven't been here for a while but i'm not surprised that people up until now are still getting defective sets. I've moved on now, DEnon 3802 powering my Paradigm Studio 20's. My sound system now is in a different league from the four sets of 4.1's that i had. This is just ridiculous though. All these busted sets and STILL the hardcore (i won't mention any names) people out there still recommend getting them replaced. Get over it guys, the problem ain't going to fix itself. People should stop shooting themselves on the foot. And people should stop giving other people blind hopes. ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. 15. i had the same ringing problem on my last set. It didn't ring when i got it but after a few weeks it started ringing on the left front and left rear. It also rings even if it is turned off. I never got a straight answer from Klipsch (they just told me to return it) about this but just letting you know that you are not imagining things. ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. 16. Exoticar, won't stuffing the rear-ports make the mini's sound muffled??? ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. But it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. OW
  17. the maranrz 6200 allegedly $899 CAD and the 5200 is &719 at whitby audio. Chris from HTF quoted me on that, i haven't called whitby audio yet so i can't confirm. Denon 1802 that i saw on the flyer is $899 at tabangi. THey had a package for two pairs of monitor bronze 1, sub, bronze center, and denon 1602 for $2000. I called them and asked what price i'd get if i got rid of the sub, upgraded the 1602 to an 1802 and upgrade the brone 1 to the bronze 2's. The guy who i was speaking to, Matt, quoted me $2000 for that setup. From i i've read in the other forums, clearance of rear ported speakers is important. If it's too close then the speakers will sound boomy. Considering that the walls where i am going to mount the surrounds and the fronts are only 11 feet apart, it seems like front ported speakers are the only option. My stats exam didn't go too well so my enthusiasm for building this HT system has gone down. If i bombed it bad, i might put off this whole HT purchase. Hopefully i did ok. ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. But it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. OW
  18. hehehe, all i can say is statistical significance is not the same as practical significance catch my drift? and btw those were 4.1's that i got not 5.1's ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. 20. for anyone who's interested, i got my first two sets from kromer, a local retailer. First one blew on the first day, second one after a month or two (can't remember anymore). The third one was sent to me from trutone electronics (another local retailer) and was 'tested'. A month later it blew, fourth one came from klipsch and was 'tested' also. Lasted a month, called it quits. omegax3000, all i'm asking is that reviewers of the promedia line make people aware that there is a problem. I think it would be correct to say that these defective units aren't anecdotal evidence. There is a serious situation that needs to be addressed. Yeah i know Klipsch has already taken measures but there are still time bombs out there on the shelves since a total recall wasn't done. And just to throw in some numbers. I'm not sure about the actual failure rate of these 4.1's but i'm loosely estimating a decent 1 out of every 750. Now the probablity of someone to get four busted sets (considering that they from an SRS sample from the 750) in succession would be 0.13% to the power of 4 or: 0.00000000004% should i bet on the lottery?? *I have NO idea what the actual figure is, hehehe do not ostracize me for my calculations. i'm just playing around with numbers* ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. 21. typical review. This matthew arnold guy was just blinded by the light and didn't tackle the serious reliability issues that have plagued the promedia line. Sigh, another numbnut is going to read this and buy one NOT knowing about the dreaded subwoofer issue. IGNORANCE, that i once fell victim to. Never again. To the regulars in this forum, don't we know the story all too well? ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. 22. this is just madness, now i'm confused on whether i should stick with the paradigm mini-monitors or go for the Monitor Audio Bronze 2's. Just called a local dealer (tabangi) and the price for a pair of bronze 2's, a center and denon 1802 would be about $2000 CAD. So the price matches up with the mini-monitor, cc-370, marantz 5200 combination. Another issue that conerns me is that infernal x200 popping, video noise, etc issue that marantz hasn't cleared yet. I haven't heard any such issues with denon x802 units. PLus the extra bass that i would supposedly (based on reviews) get with the bronze 2's would really be handy because i'm holding out for an SVS sub. One more thing, i'm cramped for space and the front firing port of the bronze 2's is another plus. any thoughts, suggestions guys? ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. But it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. OW This message has been edited by Vatican3 on 12-11-2001 at 02:47 PM
  23. well for me i'm DONE with Klipsch. i'm not going to be buying any klipsch products in the near future. they handled my promedia issue very well and customer support is top notch. problem is, my subwoofer shouldn't have overheated four times in a span of 5 months. No more klipsch for Vatican3 ------------------ Education is an admirable thing. But it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. OW
  24. thejson, when you get your 5200 check for those pops and clicks that people have been reporting. Also check the s-video noise problem. Be aware than marantz has OFFICIALY confirmed the problem and they say they are talking to their engineers in japan about it. Here's the snippet from HTF: Dear Chris, We are sorry to hear the inconvenience you are having with your Marantz SR-5200 receiver. Please allow me to address this. We have verified this complaint. We have contacted our Engineers in Japan. We are currently investigating a resolution. We hope to have an answer within two weeks. If you do not hear from us, please feel free to contact us again, and we will let you know how to proceed. We thank you for your support & Happy holidays. Jim Smerz __________________________________________________ hmmm, hopefully they handle this issue better than klipsch is handling the promedia issues. ------------------ Education is an admirable thing.
