  1. Chris Robinson Which one did you score ?? The Cypress one or the one near Kelly ?? Either one in good working order isn't really a bad deal. I just paid $125 for a basket case and will most likely have more than either of them in it when I'm done. I like to tinker with stuff so that's the way I alway's go. Good luck and I wish you were my brother !!!! Craig
  2. Mobile The old caps were American Radionic Company Cerecaps.
  3. I just took out a tape measure and guess what that won't fit under my chassis. Back to the drawing board.
  4. Man that a shock you to didn't end up in a keyboard war Here's a pic of the Electrolytic Capacitor were putting in its 1&3/8" diameter, 2" tall. This message has been edited by NOS440 on 03-04-2002 at 08:37 PM
  5. Mobile We are going to add one cap in the Center tap of the Output tranformers, Also changing 8 Coupling Cap Value's in the sound Path. Mdeneen thought this would tighten the Bass and its cheap and a easy mods. We have a few other mods that I'm considering that vary in there difficulty. The amp does sound slighty different with the new Caps. Tighter and more detailed I was listening to some Pink Floyd last night and it sounded so good. I thought I was 18 again and smoking that Wacky Tabacky LOL !!!! Craig
  6. Clipped and Shorn You have that right. I can't believe the quality of this old gear. I just recapped my Scott 222c and it just sounding oh so sweet on my Sf-2s and Ksw-15 sub.
  7. That must be a 299C or D with 7591s. Looks nice !! Who's is it ??
  8. Mobile were not changing a El Cap were adding a single lead cap under the chassis. All my can Caps are working fine no need to change them. This is just a mod to help the Base tighten up. Craig
  9. Closest I could find there was 40uf 500V sprague. I wish I could find one place to buy all this stuff from. Tubesandmore.com has most of what I need.
  10. I hoping for Axial lead single Cap. Just listened to my first song with the new Caps on my Sf-2 with KSW-15 sub. My first impression is that its much crisper than it was before. The bass seems already tighter I just turned the Sub up a couple notches it would turn flabby at this setting before. But this is just one song Hotel CA by the eagles. Time will tell the real truth about the new caps !!!
  11. SOUNDJUNKIE I did this a few at a time and checked to make sure it still worked. I'm not that brave. I've done Allot of soldering wiring my Race car before so this isn't that new to me. So I'm not that brave !!! It took me 3 day's to get the guts to tear apart a perfectly good working Amp.
  12. Allan I find Soldering fun I love to tinker !! Mobile I went all out there 716P's like you recommended and so did Mdeneen. The thing is after letting them settle in I'm going to just pull about half of them back out to do a Bass Mod the Mdeneen designed for me. But hey a reference point is important. Thanks for all the Pats on the back. I really enjoyed doing it. I haven't hooked it to my main Klipsch system yet. But It does have a tighter sound using my Fisher speakers. My other Scott has been on all day and I'll be hooking the 222c to compare soon. As far as the old one being bad. I know none of them had shorts or Open but I'm sure they had varied from spec. The voltages are now dead on exact at all these spots and before they varied slightly. I'll report back later with how it sounds now. Trying to search down the parts for the Tight base mod. Where the hell can I get a 50uf 475V Electrolytic Cap Mdeneen said LCR brand who the hell sells those ?? He said mouser but I can't find it on there Website.
  13. Thanks Mobile Also notice a bunch of new link there thanks Craig
  14. Clipped and Shorn Wheres Mdeneen hiding today ?? I thought you guy's would be working on your Amp ?? Craig
  15. It works cool. I need to find time to put up a web page again !!!!
  16. I feel great I just did my first HiFi solder swinging and I don't mind saying I'm Proud of how it turned out. It was actually real easy. The hardest part is getting the Old caps out. I'm picky and didn't want to just clips them and solder the new one's on the surface. I desoldered and installed like the factory did when it was new. I still have to change all the small ones on the control pots which will be slightly harder !! I except "Pats on the back" Before After Hope Comcast web hosting works better than there Email has since Excite took a dump LOL !!!!! This message has been edited by NOS440 on 03-02-2002 at 03:58 PM
  17. Thanks Mobile let me know when you post the schematic for it. Also do have any other links about the Amp ?? Other than the EICO page ? Craig
  18. Soundog I didn't know you had scored one. I must of missed that listing. What kind of shape was the unit in for $105. I thought I was getting a deal at $125. Chris Robinson I;m sure the forum will be live with reports of progress as I go and hopfully you too !! I have to stop this I've bought 3 amps and a Tube tuner since the year began. Luckily the first 2 Scott's have been in excellant shape. Just needed some tubes. I will most likely recap them pretty soon just to say I did it.
  19. Linkage So please send me a link to your sight about the HF-81 site. So I can read up. Also do you have a schematic and any other Info I could get from you Please !!!!!!! The shootout now will begin !!! Scott versus EICO . First round already went to Scott I've bought 2 and new tubes fixed them both no soldering required LOL !!!! Of coarse I paid about $75 more for them.
  20. shhhhhh mobile let him go for the cypress one and leave me a chance at one of the less cosmetic ones. I just want something to compare to my Scotties Got to test your ears LOL !!
  21. I'm not far enough along in this addiction yet or they would be already gone !!!
  22. Found these on ebay might be something someone might want for a Amp project. Linkage
  23. Oh I won't I just want one on the cheap .
  24. Mobile I've come to the conclusion that you have single handedly drove the cost of those HF-81s beyond my reach LOL . I can not believe someone would pay 215.00 for one of those that is missing tubes, not in great cosmetic shape and doesn't have a clue what else might be wrong with it. I just can't drop 200.00 on a Amp that is incomplete and have no Idea what might be wrong with it. The way they are going on Ebay I think I'll just hope I run across one at a yard sale. You can buy Scotts in good working order that don't even require cleaning for that and my 222c sounds awesome !! I'm going to start mods on it soon and see what its really capable of. Craig
  25. Is it hard to find a nob for these units or something that would look okay. Say if you swapped out both the center nobs so they match but are different/Similar to the other 4. Craig
