  1. Mdeneen is by far the most helpfull person I have ever met online. I wish I was as lucky as you guy's living near him. (the weather would be nice too!!). This project should be interesting to see develop !! Craig
  2. Yea there 4 of them on Fleabay now and all seem to be in rough shape. If I can score one on the cheap I might grab one to play with. Even though I already have 2 higher quality better sounding Scotts LOL !!
  3. On the face plates of these amps is the lettering embedded or is it silk screen ?? Just wondering if scratches can be wheeled/polished out of them without wrecking the lettering ? Thanks Craig
  4. I seen that the other day too !!! The funny thing is that the speakers in the picture are early 80S Fishers that I have as spares. First speakers I ever owned and they do sound pretty good. There mid 90db's speakers.
  5. Update.... After being alone here last night. I slapped 5 discs in the Sony CDP-315 and played music for 3 hours at near full volume. I find that now my $40 Ebay special CD player sounds leaps and bounds above my Sony DVP-NS700P DVD player. Can't believe what a 69 cent mod can do LOL !!!!! Thanks Again Mdeneen
  6. Well that may work. But I already fixed it thanks to Mdeneen !!!!! It cost me a whopping 69 cents for 4- 22K resisters that I soldered the RCA line between the CD Deck and the Amp and it sounds great no more high volume distortion. You should see the drawing he emailed me to show me how to do it a child could of followed the instructions. He is the man. This message has been edited by NOS440 on 02-24-2002 at 02:01 PM
  7. Mdeneen Once again great intsructions and the drawing was great thanks. I'll do it this weekend and let everyone know how it works out. Thanks again Craig
  8. Allan Amperexs are doing awesome. They sound real rich. Mark Theoption that sounded interesting was the RCA cable mod with the dropping resister
  9. Mdeneen I like your Idea's. I might have to give you another jingle this weekend and we will discuss the details on the phone.
  10. Allan did you get your snail mail ?? Oh and my email addy changed to craigostby@comcast.net .
  11. Well did someone here score the ECIO I hope so !! I refrained from bidding on it knowing someone here wanted it. Craig
  12. Okay now that I have my Tube Amp all setup and safe to use. I have found I need a component that can regulate the input from various sources. I have a Sony DVP-NS700P DVD player and it has a setting for reducing the Audio output to relieve distortion that I get at higher Volume with my Amp (they call it Audio Attenuation it makes the sound so much sweeter). Now I also have a 5 disc Sony 315 and it doesn't have this feature. Is there a device that can equal such inputs out that I can buy for a reasonable price ?? Thanks Craig This message has been edited by NOS440 on 02-18-2002 at 11:06 AM
  13. Hi All Thought I would post a update. I took the long trip to my Dad's with my 222C in tow. We tested and tested and tested and all we could find was one weak 6U8 tube that if left to warm up would even test within limits. We tested every circuit in the AMP all coupling caps. Bunch of resisters and found nothing. My Dad thinks that the Amp as seen very little use in his words when we took the Under Chassis cover off he said "This thing looks brand new and man they use the best parts of the Day". So we spent about 4 hours checking and rechecking and this morning we hooked it up to some speakers. My Dad loves Frank Sinatra so I thought it was time to show him what it used to sound like when Frank was the King. Well needless to say he wants a Tube Amp to go along with all his Tube Ham Gear now LOL !!!! Well anyway's I need to give Mdeneen a very big Pat on the Back he was so much help thru all this. I feel like I actually am not a Electornic Idiot anymore. If anyone buy's one of these Old amps don't hessitate to give Mdeneen a shout he knows his Sh!t. See ya all I have to get my Amp hooked back up and start enjoying it now that I know its safe. Craig This message has been edited by NOS440 on 02-17-2002 at 10:27 PM
  14. The battery is brand new I out it in 2 day's ago. Let me go try this again. I did it both way using the chassis ground and the speaker ground. Be back in a few.
  15. I'm missing or were missing something here because I've tested zeroed and tested and it alway's comes out the same zero on all leads.
  16. Mdeneen I'm using some old RS VOM meter called "20,000 OHMS/Volt Multitester and I zeroed it many times its kind of finicky zeroing it though. So let me get this clear I remove the power tubes unplug the power cord unhook the speakers. Put the black lead of the meter to ground on the chassis and then test each 4, 8 and 16 ohm speaker terminal and I should get a reading ?? 17. Man I hope Mdeneen didn't let old MH drive him away from me. I really need his help. I'm lost without him. Oh Mdeneen oh Mdeneen where art thou !!!!!!
  18. Mdeneen I'm not sure if I did the first test right I dialed my VOM in with it set at 10 scale. I removed the power tubes and unplugged the AMP. I put the black probe on a chassis ground and then tested 4 8 16 ohm speakers leads. They all test to zero zilch nada. Am I suppose to turn the amp on without the tubes. You were not real clear on that and I'm to chicken to try it. Oh I also used the - speaker post as ground with the same results. Oh and this amp has been sounding awesome for 2 day's now it didn't have to even warm up this morning to sound good weird Huh !!!! This message has been edited by NOS440 on 02-15-2002 at 10:05 PM
  19. mdeneen I take it that both these test are done with the power off and the unit unplugged right ??
  20. Oh and Mdeneen I'll do those test later. I have some running I have to do. I might need some clarification here and there though
  21. Holly fright what happened. Lets all relax. I love all this advise and don't want to be the start of a war LOL !!!! Let all just settle down. Mdeneen please don't go I'd be lost without your technical advise and test know how. So lets all get along Okay !!!
  22. All I can say is..... Tubes Rule sound wise !! Also if you like to tinker there great for that too !!!
  23. mobile homeless Why is it that everytime I start to read reply from you I go get a cup of coffee because I know I'm going to reread it a few times. So much good info ! Out of all the caps that you've heard do you have one that you would say would reproduce the Original scott sound the best ? Mdeneen, mobile homeless Okay now lets get into my further findings last night. I started playing around with my 7 7189's to see if I could get the AMP to sound right with them. Never did but you sure can tell the difference between them I think out of the 7 some Tele's that came with it are weak but the Amperexs seem fine. Well anyways while doing this I noticed again the tempeture difference in the output transformers again. The right (good sounding channel) gets warming alot faster than the left and is alway's warmer. So I put the 4 Amperexs back in and let the unit warm up at low volume and settle in for a hour and it started to sound great again no distortion out of either channel. But the left transformer is at least 15 degrees cooler than the left at all times and takes way longer to warm up. The right tranformer has more things surounding it like the 5AR4, 2 output tubes and the left trans. While the left has only the 2 7189s and the right trans warming it or limiting the heat transfer. Maybe this is normal ? Now to make things even more confusing this morning I fired the beast up and within 5 minutes max it sounded perfect. Oh and I now put my foot down and got my wife to let me move it back upstairs with my Klipsch SF-2s and ksw-15 sub(the basement is not musically friendly to say the least). The center channel output really works well for a sub input. This room is only 12' X 12' and really sounds awesome with the Scott and 1st Vinyl,2nd CD player or even FM for casual listening (Can't wait to rid the scott of the hissy static that it omits on the Phono channel). From what I've learned so far my guess is all I have are some caps or electrolytics that are having to warm up to get near spec and that's my problem. I bet this thing really sings when I replace all these. Most likely this weekend or next at the latest. Again thanks for helping me and turning me on to the world of Tubes. The more I get involved the cooler I think this hobby is !! Craig Ostby This message has been edited by NOS440 on 02-15-2002 at 10:25 AM
  24. Solid State what up with that. You must be off your rocker LOL !!!! Let me ask you this MH if you had my Amp what brand caps and such would you install in it ?? Keeping it somewhat affordable Oh and I was throwing the blame on anyone just saying lets not argue Craig
